Giants

Last year, archeologists found a 'Lost City of Giants' in Ecuador, but information has just recently been revealed. This find was located in the Amazon jungle and consisted of megalithic era pyramid-shaped stone structures 80 meters high with 80 meter square bases and made from roughly cut stones that were approximately 2 tonnes in weight. Stone tools were also found that were too large for a normal human to use. Explorers also found large mounds of equal size. The idea that this was the work of giants comes from ancient Ecuadorian legends about giants walking the Earth.

The question is: could giants have existed back before humans or even during ancient times? If you go by Greek legends and mythology, the answer is yes. The ancient Greeks called them Gigantes and they were they were the offspring of Giai, born from the blood when Uranus was castrated by his Titan son Cronus. Giai is Earth and Uranus is Sky. In other words giants were earthborn from mythological gods. Homer mentioned them in his Odysseus. Giants are often confused with Titans, which came before them.

We also find Giants in Norse mythology and Welch folklore. The Norse called them Jotnar and they're an integral part of Norse mythology, which Wagner incorporated in his Ring series.

The Welsh called them cewri. In their case giants were more human-like and interacted with normal-sized people, but not without drama and conflict. In some cases they conflicted with King Author, a legendary king of Britain. One notable giant was Rhitta Gawr, who held court in Snowdonia. His favorite action after a battle was to take the beards of kings he conquered and fashion them into a cap he wore. Allegedly, Arthur defeated him in battle. Good stuff here!

These were not the only giant legends. The Egyptians had a titan pharaoh, according to a tomb inscription. Giants are also mentioned in Geneses. Supposedly, giant skeletons were unearthed near the ancient Babylon, in the Americas in the Serra do Machado area, and in Turkey in the Euphrates Valley, and there are many supposed sites in Ohio and other locations. Native Americans have giants in their mythology.

For the most part, giants are the product of mythology and legend. There is a possibility that giants human-like creatures existed however the evidence is suspect. But, you never know. I think this latest discovery is significant.
