Asbestos conspiracy

This is another true conspiracy. I have a personal reason for writing this.

Asbestos is a hair-like fibrous silicate material found on rock ore. Basically, it's a silicate crystal that exists in a long fiber that has a 20:1 ratio and tangles together to form a fiber that can be used to insulate. Because it's a natural substance, it has been utilized for 4500 years. So, it's not new.

Large chemical companies introduced asbestos, notably Johns-Manville, and produced mega tons of this material for insulating houses, buildings and for fireproofing suits for race drivers and fire fighters. It was extensively used in industry to pack vulnerable goods and structures for shipping.

The controversy comes from the industries insistence that asbestos was safe and harmless to humans, this despite the fact that their own factory workers were coming down with a strange cancer called mesothelioma, which attacks the cells in the pulmonary sack that covers the lung.

The dangers of asbestos were known in antiquity. Ancient Greeks observed that asbestos miners were suffering a higher number of lung aliments. These asbestos producing companies covered up the fact that it was a dangerous health risk for those who breathed it.

Actor Steve McQueen, who raced motorcycles and cars, died from malignant mesothelioma because he wore suits fireproofed with asbestos.

The reason this is important to me is because my father died from  mesothelioma. He worked in a factory that used asbestos to insulate large machinery that he built. He was only 78 and smoked. That was a particular fatal combination. He was victim of two coverup conspiracies, one from the asbestos manufacturer and one from the cigarette producers.
