Panel 12
INT. COURTROOM - SAME DAY AS BEGINNING PANEL
We are back at the front of the courtroom, (USE PANEL 2), but now CONNOR stands in front of the JUDGE.
JUDGE: This court proceeding has already ended sir.
CONNOR: Has it already? But I already took time to dress up for this! And I could have sworn that I set my watch for 5:00 p.m., right when all of this was supposed to start?
JUDGE: Yes, we are adjourned for today. This trial started at 9:00 a.m. sharp sir.
Panel 13
S.A.P.
We face CONNOR, and show DEMETRIUS with a confused face in the right corner.
CONNOR: Well, that isn't what the website says. Nor what the newspapers say. Nor what the record says. I know that the justice system can be unfair, but now you have wrongly convicted an innocent? Tsk tsk tsk.
Panel 14
S.A.P.
Face JUDGE. CONNOR is holding a newspaper and is showing it to the JUDGE.
JUDGE:What is going on here?
CONNOR: I often wonder about that myself sir. In this case however, this is what I'm talking about. Headline reads: Trial of Criminal Demetrius Lydos, Article states: Mysterious thief has been caught and detainted, his trial to start at 5:00 p.m. Read more on page B5. Joke of the Day: What's the best thing about Switzerland? I don't know, but the flag is a big plus!
Panel 15
S.A.P. (I'm just going to change the scene when it changes instead of typing this)
We face CONNOR once more, a huge smile on his face. No one in the audience seems amused.
CONNOR: No one? Seriously? Anyway, if you look it up, the internet says the same thing. We were supposed to start... 5 minutes ago. That means this trial is invalid.
Panel 16
We face the JUDGE (placed on the left side of the panel). JUDGE is concentrated on a phone in his hands. Focus more on PROSECUTION (right), who stands up, a look of pure shock and disbelief on his face (have his chair fallen to the ground).
PROSECUTION: Objection! On the grounds of hearsay!
JUDGE: Sustained. My calendar does state that the trial was intended to start at 5:00 p.m. today.
PROSECUTION: Well there's just no way that we all just SHOWED up at the wrong time... (JUDGE gavel sounds)
JUDGE: Sit down or I'll charge the prosecution with contempt of court.
Panel 17
Face CONNOR. DEMETRIUS has a satisfied smile off to the side, and the audience behind him has fallen silent.
CONNOR: May I speak your honor?
JUDGE: Proceed.
CONNOR: I am the new defense attorney for Mr. Lydos, and I would like a moment to speak to him privately, to discuss a trial reschedule.
JUDGE: I will allow this. Officer, escort these two to the side room.
Panel 18
INT. COURTHOUSE - SIDE ROOM
DEMETRIUS and CONNOR sit at opposite ends of a small wooden table (D left, C right) in a small room. The room has two large windows (Directly in front of viewers (Stack the dialogue bubbles in the middle, above the table)).
CONNOR: So... taxes, am I right?
DEMETRIUS: You aren't my lawyer, are you? Because I can't afford anything but the public defender. I did get a free coupon from a lawyer once though! It was to some church however, and I rather not have a come to Jesus moment right now.
CONNOR: No, I am your father. (Laugh) Just kidding! I'm your new best friend! I'm Connor, a renowned escape artist! I took off your cuffs when I patted your back a few moments ago.
Panel 19
DEMETRIUS holds his hands up with a surprised look, CONNOR grinning like an idiot.
CONNOR: Now, let's break these windows, hop into my 🎵Windowless van🎵, and hightail it out of here.
DEMETRIUS: Why should I trust you?
CONNOR: You should trust me, because I am all you got. I can bring you to a life beyond your greatest dreams. I'm from The Institution. And jumping out that window? That's your entrance exam.
