Chapter 9

Mimi sat on the couch with an ice pack bandaged to the right side of her face taking the swelling down. She had been enraged at Jack's actions but after a while she cooled down and just kind of forgot about it as Chimur kept her company talking about the different types of dragons and if they had any abilities. "You have your basic dragons that just breathe fire, they are all brown in color. You have elemental dragons that can control a little bit of elements. Like for example a green dragon could control a little bit of vines and such. Gold dragons, like the ones I heard you stumble across, are obsessed with making gold and tricking humans into believing they found the dragon hoard." Chimur tried not to roll his eyes. Humans were easy to trick. "There are also sliver dragons. They are known for their cannibalistic nature as their sliver fire has the ability to melt dragon scales that are usually fire proof." "Wait sliver dragons eat other dragons!?" Mimi asked in shock. "Yes. They do." Chimur nodded to answer her question, "We have white dragons. They live below the basic dragons. The Empress strips dragons that had disobeyed the laws of all their power and color. Scales become white as snow and burn easy in the sun's rays. Wings are ripped from their bodies and forced to live the rest of their life in the shadows." "So dragons have chain of class?" Ralph asked as he exited the kitchen with Hachi on his heels. "White dragons, basic, elements, and then sliver?" "Exactly." Chimur shifted in his seat to face Ralph. "Then what about mixed dragons? You didn't mention yellow and black dragons." "Their parents were most likely fire, water, and earth dragons." Chimur explained, "Some dragons have two fathers and a single mother." "So that sliver dragon we ran into was the strongest dragon?" Mimi patted Chimur's shoulder. "No. The most powerful dragons are pearlescent dragons. They are rare to come by. The only one that you would ever see in your lifetime would probably be the dragon that is owned by the Empress." Ralph shifted on his heels. His mind was burning with a million questions. He knew that they were all dragons from the words of the redhead and he wanted so badly to ask. Is it actually true? "Chimur?" Ralph opened his mouth and then closed it quickly as he was trying to decide. "Yes Ralph?" The black man turned to the small boy after he stood to get a glass of water. "I um...I have a question or rather a few..." Ralph licked his bottom lip "When I was trapped in the cages, being a slave, a redhead sitting in the same cage explained why the Empress hates humans. Explained that Oidoas' Forest was the safe haven for humans running from dragons masters. She also explained that you aren't humans." His eyes met with Chimur's green eyes and the hesitation was the only answer he needed. "What? Not human, what are you talking about Ralph?" Mimi questioned and stood, walking over to Chimur and placed a hand on his arm so she could tell that he was on her right side. "They are clearly human." "No. Mimi, they aren't." Ralph turned to Hachi "Are you?" Hachi looked over at Chimur and he lowed his head as an apology as he just answered with a simple no. "Hachi." Chimur growled lowly but it was already out. "Chimur?" Mimi asked softly, her tone held confusion. The big black man let out a loud sigh "It's true Mimi. We aren't human, just dragons that pose as humans to make our life a lot simpler." "Why didn't you tell us?" Mimi frowned. She wasn't sure how she felt now. She hated being lied to. "Because humans being here and knowing that we are dragons could make things worse for us." Rain answered as he stepped out of the room Berry was in, wiping his hands clean of blood. "And humans have only caused us trouble." He glared lightly at the two but his look softened slightly, "I'm sorry for interrupting this conversation about the truth and whether or not we are humans but Berry didn't make it. Her wounds were far too severe." "What!" Ralph asked as he shoved passed Chimur and over to Rain, "You're lying!" Tears began to well up in his eyes as he didn't want to believe the doctor. "It's not in my job to lie to people, Ralph, I could not save her." Rain responded and shifted to open the door, "If you wish to say goodbye you may." Ralph slowly stepped into the room. Rain turned to Chimur "I have a bad feeling about her death. You know her mate is Maddrair and he will not just believe us that we stumbled upon her wounded body over by the Hot Springs." "He won't listen to reason once he becomes enraged." Chimur muttered softly before glancing at the back door, "What about Ralph?" "What about him?" Rain asked as he began to throw dirty clothes into the wash and removed his white coat that was blood stained. Chimur hurried after the doctor, "The boy where there during the attack. He must have seen the dragon that killed her and could identify him/her!" "Are we even sure Ralph saw anything?" Rain hummed softly "The boy is young and from his face, he had never been involved in such an attack. Hachi has told me that Ralph has awakened in the middle of the night sweating and crying out for the poor she dragon." "We have to ask him. We don't have a choice unless we want to be thrown into another pointless war." Chimur smacked his fist against the wall to prove his point. Rain turned to Chimur "I can ask him about it. He might explain it all, if he can even get through the trauma."

Many many miles away in the large castle stood a red and blue dragon with hints of sliver in his scales. His soft cyan eyes met sun golden as he bow lowly in front of the Empress. She turned her head to the closest window "Oidoas you do not have to bow to me." Her dark blue hair shimmered in the sunlight that came in through small cracks in the ceiling. Her skin was pale in color and stood out against her midnight dress that hugged her curves. He stood and stepped closer to her "I apologize for this emergency meeting as soon as you return from your business, but I have a bit of situation." "A situation that my best general cannot take care of himself?" She asked him. Her voice was soft and barely rose above a whisper. "Your Highness, with all due respect, I need your help to return humans back to their realm." He spoke and flinched under her hard stare "What." Her voice rose slightly with her demand. "The Black Witch brought them here against their will and they wish to be returned to their realm. We explained that only you could return them." Oidoas followed her as she swiftly walked down the stairs and into a different room. Her heels clacking loudly against the stone floor. "With all due respect Oidoas, I have no intention of returning them to their homes. I don't care that they are trapped here. I will not help humans ever again." She stopped in her walk and turned to face him. "It was not their fault Your Highness-" "Shut up!" Her voice boomed in the quiet castle "I will not help them ever! You are dismissed." She turned away from him and began to walk down the hallway. "Star." He started and she froze in place "It was not the humans' fault. They were merely pawns in the struggle for power." She took a deep ragged breath at her name. Her name that had not been spoken in centuries. "If you hate humans so much, why do you continue to use this small fleshy form?" He gestured to her human form and that she could easily stay in dragon form. "Because the hate I have for myself outweighs the hate for them. I can't bare to look at my natural self." She stood tall. Her body shaking as she was trying her hardest to silence her sobs. "I can't bare it..." She took a deep breath and continued walking down the hallway "You are dismissed Oidoas, I do not want to speak of this again." Oidoas watched in sadness as his old friend hurried down the hallway. She was drowning in her own self hate and guilt. Oidoas turned away from the hallway and slowly walked out of the main throne room. He frowned, thinking hard. Maybe they could somehow change her mind? Maybe they could break her free of such a mess from many years ago. With these thoughts in mind, Oidoas spread his large wings and took flight to head back home.

Back on the other side of Oidoas' Forest, Maddrair laid down on a giant rock to sunbathe. His injured wings spread out to catch the warmth of the sun. "My Alpha?" A voice called from behind him and Maddrair opened his eyes with an annoyed grumble "What is it Stargazer? I have told you before not to bother me in my meadow." "I humbly apologize my Alpha but I have some rather bad news that you need to know." Stargazer mumbled as softly and as sadly as he could. Maddrair raised his head and turned to look at Stargazer "What happened to you-!" Stargazer had bleeding scratches from the top of his body and down his sides and back. "I was speaking with my Lady as she was relaxing in Oidoas' Healing Springs, we were jumped and I barely managed to get away! I can't say the same for my Lady, they dragged her away!" "WHAT!?!" Maddrair bellowed as he stood up "Are you telling me Oidoas broke his word and killed my mate!" "Yes, my Alpha." Stargazer bowed his head in sorrow but also to kept Maddrair from seeing the small smirk upon his lips. Oidoas was about to take the blame for his murder and nothing could make this day better.
