Chapter 2
Mimi looked around outside as Hachi showed her around the property. He signed and gestures over to a barn. "You want to show me what's inside?" She asked as she didn't understand the sign language he was using and had to guess. He nodded, giving her a giant smile, and pulled her towards the barn. There was so many beautiful horses of different kinds. "Wow, I have never really been around horses." Mimi walked over to the closest stall and carefully rubbed the horse's nose. Hachi watched her for a few seconds as he was trying to figure out how to ask her questions. He knew that she had a very hard time understanding him. He turned his attention to the ground and picked up a twig. Maybe he could write in the dirt? He tapped Mimi on the shoulder before pointing down at the ground to the sentence. She looked at him then to the ground "What's it like back in our time? Well we don't have magic or anything like that." She started and made as face as she tried to think of the similar things between their two worlds? Timeline? Hachi got comfortable, figuring it was doing to be a long conversation.
Jack watched his brother as he tried to gather up his thoughts. It was like a giant storm. How were they supposed to get home? Would the Empress even help them? What if they got trapped here forever? What if his brother never got better? Would they ever see their mother again? What about Mimi? She has a family to get back to as well. They needed to finish college and Ralph still had high school to finish. He rubbed his face and let out a loud sigh. There was a knock at the door and he turned to see Ako standing there with Oidoas behind her. "Yes?" He asked softly. He didn't have the energy to talk much. "Are you doing okay?" Ako asked him as she walked over with a mug of warm tea. Jack carefully took the mug from her and took a sip. The warmth quickly traveled from his mouth and spread throughout his body. "Not really." He answered her honestly as she sat down across from him. "Just so many worries about if we can really get home. If my brother is actually okay..." He trailed off, feeling tears begin to well up in his eyes and he sat back. He clenched his hands slightly around the mug, doing his best not to cry. He despised crying in front of anyone. Oidoas walked over and carefully placed a hand upon Jack's shoulder. Jack looked up at him as the man spoke up, "Jack it is perfectly alright to be worried. It's perfectly alright to cry in a stressful time." The words Oidoas spoke had been the ones Jack had always wanted someone to tell him when he was a child and the tears began to fall as he started to sob. Oidoas pulled Jack to him in a comforting hug. Ako watched her mate. She didn't realize that there was more than one way to get attached to these children.
Chimur hummed quietly as he did the dishes that were in the kitchen. He watched Hachi take Mimi all over the property before bringing her back inside the house. "Wow! You guys have a lot of land!" She exclaimed, brushing dirt and twigs off of her clothes. "Yes we do. Horses need a lot of land to roam." Chimur smiled warmly at her and gave a nod to Hachi, who was staring wide eyed at Chimur. The old man nodded and Hachi took off down the hallway as quickly as he could. Mimi let out sigh and looked back up at Chimur, "Is there anywhere I can take a shower? I got all dirty." Her nose wrinkled at her own scent. Chimur set down the plate he had been scrubbing and looked over at Mimi "Yes, but it's not attached to the house." "Well as long as you guard the door, I should be fine, right?" She asked him. She didn't really care if the shower was twenty feet in the air; she just wanted to smell good again. "Of course." He gave her a stiff nod and then dried off his hands. "Why don't we ask Ako if she has any clothes you can borrow until your can be washed." He led her out of the kitchen and down the hallway to the main room, where Ako had left her mate and Jack to speak in the bedroom. Hachi standing over by the bedroom door like a lost puppy being left out in the rain. "Hey Ako, do you have an extra clothes that Mimi could borrow?" Chimur asked and the woman thought for a second before grabbing Mimi's arm "Why don't we go look in my room and then you can use my personal shower. It's actually in the house." Pushing Mimi down a new hallway and glancing back at Chimur, who narrowed his eyes at her. She had taken away his opportunity to spy on Mimi without clothes on. Rain walked into the room, passed the two others, and disappeared into the bedroom. After the door closed it opened again. Jack and Oidoas were shoved out of the room.
Jack stared at the door for a minute before looking up at Oidoas, taking in his features as he thought about a question. Oidoas was a tall man with salt and pepper hair in an army cut. He wore a plain t shirt and jeans. He looked like your average guy with slightly more muscle and a much deeper tone. "So how do we get an audience with the Empress?"
Oidoas placed his hands behind his back "I can try to place an urgent meeting with her." "You can do that?" Jack asked him. "I used to be one of her generals during the war." Oidoas took in a sharp breath before he turned away from Jack to leave to another room. Jack then saw a few scars catch light on Oidoas and he realized that they had really stumbled into the right people to help. Rain opened the door a bit, "Jack." Jack turned and saw the doctor gesturing him to come to him. He hurried over, "Is something wrong?" "No, nothing is wrong. Your brother's fever broke early this morning and he has been asleep all day. He should wake soon if you want to be at his side." Rain told him as he began to exit the room. "Thank you Doctor." Jack grinned as Rain just muttered under his breath that it was no big deal before he went to find Oidoas.
Rain found Oidoas in the back room, in a visual call with one of the Empress' servants "...I'm sorry General, but her Highness has been gone for several weeks now on a very important matter and we are not too sure when she will return. But I can ring you as soon as she is back and I have explained the situation." The servant gave him a very apologetic look. "Please do." Oidoas gave her a small smile before they ended the call. Rain huffed from the doorway, making his presence known, "Great. Now we have to deal with these children for who knows how long." "Don't be too upset, old friend, it is not every day we stumble onto new friends." Oidoas gave Rain a smile. Rain's frown deepened, "I think these children are going to be nothing but trouble. The quicker we get rid of them, the better for the rest of us. The air is filling with pheromones and there are only two dragons in this household who have yet to settle down. I'm almost certain that Chimur and Hachi have imprinted." "Chimur has fallen before, would this time be any different or is he just going through the phases?" Oidoas asked, remembering the last time. "It's hard to tell." Rain shifted his weight from one foot to the other. "But Hachi has never been this way before and he is acting like a lovesick fool. That young boy may be in trouble when mating season starts. It's only a few weeks away." Oidoas rubbed his forehead. Just what they needed to add to the already overweight plate. A young dragon who has never mated going through mating season. "If we don't get to speak by the Empress before then we must do everything we can to keep Hachi away from the boy or else he will hurt him." "That will not be easy. He may be smaller than Chimur and not as strong but because of the imprinting, the urges will be unbearable." Rain warned him, "Pray we speak to the Empress first." Oidoas nodded in agreement.
