Chapter 10
Ralph grabbed onto the bars of the cages. Here he was again being held against his will, only this time he was going to see his new friends tortured.
"How dare you murder Bellarose!" Maddrair bellowed, striking his claws down through Rain's side. They were all out numbered. "We did not!" Rain snapped back, his head snaking around and his teeth collided with Maddrair's neck scales. Rain backed up swiftly as Chimur charged forward his large head crashing into Maddrair's side, knocking him off of his feet. "Hachi hurry!" Ako barked as she clawed at Stargazer face. Hachi raced towards the cages where their humans friends were being held. "STOP THEM!" Maddrair bellowed and the rest of his clan began to join the fight, surrounding each of the dragons. Hachi dipped and dodged to the best of his ability as he hurried through the crowd. He yelped in pain as a couple of bigger dragons tackled him to the ground. He landed on his back and clawed at those biting as his neck and front legs. It was a bloody mess.
"We have to do something!" Mimi yelled as she grabbed at the bars on the cage, giving them a violent shake. "What are we supposed to do?" Jack asked with an annoyed tone. "Even if we get the cage open, we might break our neck on the fall to the ground." Jack had a point. The cage was hanging up high in the air. Ralph glanced around, trying to ignore both of them as he was looking for a way to escape. What was it that the red head taught him? "Mimi, do you have a hair pin?" He turned to look at her. She looked at him with shock "Sexist much?" She rolled her eyes as she pulled a couple of pins out of her hair "These?" Ralph nodded and grabbed them both, he turned back to the cage door and began to try and pick the lock.
Oidoas flew back over his home and landed. He folded his wings close and then turned his head in a confused manner. Where was everyone? And why did it look like a fight broke out?
"STOP THEM!" He heard the familiar bellow of Maddrair and his eyes widened in shock "NO-!" He quickly turned to leave when a whine came from inside his home. He stopped in his tracks and slowly changed back to his human form. He made his way inside, "Hello..?"
"Please help..." A weak voice called from the back room. Oidoas frowned slightly but made his way to the back room "Whose there?" He pushed open the door to see a woman laying on the medical table. He didn't recognize this woman with black hair and a swollen belly. She was panting heavily and drenched in sweat. She was only covered in the sheets from the bed and a bit of blood. She glanced at the door and reached out to Oidoas "Please- ah-! Heelp me!" She arched her back as she groaned out in pain. He stared at her with shock "How?" He wasn't a doctor. That was Rain's department. "Just check!" She shouted, pointing down at her legs. He was quite confused but walked over to her legs "What am I-" "Can you see anything! A head!?" She interrupted him, leaning back against the table, trying to catch her breath. He stared at her for a second before it clicked. She was giving birth!! He shook his head and quickly moved the sheet out of the way so he could see what was happening. He swallowed for a second, trying not to upchuck at the messy sight. "I see an arm?" She looked at him with alarm, "An arm?" He nodded, his face losing a bit of color as she asks him for assistance. "I need you to grab the arm and try to shift the baby around so that it's the head coming through." "Uh? I really think a doctor should be doing this." He stated quietly and she groaned again in pain "We don't have time to find one!!" She gripped the sheets and gasped out "Please Oidoas!" He shook off his disgust the best he could and took off his over shirt and quickly washed his hand before coming back over to her "Okay..." He took a breath before shifting the arm back into her and moved his finger to find the baby's shoulder and then head "Ah, the young one is sideways." Thw woman laid back against the table and put her hand over her eyes as she took another breath "Turn him." "But my hands are-" "I know, just help." She whimpered softly. She knew it was going to be nothing but painful. Oidoas nodded and moved his fingers around, trying to shift the baby in her as slowly as possible to cause the least amount of pain. The lady screamed in agony. "So um? Birth is usually given in dragon form?" Oidoas started to speak to her, hoping to take her mind from the pain. "I was attacked while resting at the Springs..." She panted "I was delt a lot of bodily damage and your doctor said that the possibility of giving birth as a human would be much simpler." She yelled again. "Okay. I have him turned correctly, get ready to push." Oidoas spoke up and then began to count and then "Push!"
She pushed with all her strength. The head began to crown with Oidoas' hands guiding the baby out. "Okay, now take a few deep breaths." She panted heavily again.
"Why is this so difficult!?"
Giving birth as a dragon was much easier as all you had to do was lay a few eggs and then just keep them warm until they hatched. "Push!"
This went on for then next few minutes before all the struggle between the two was a cry of a little baby. Oidoas was quick to wash the baby in lukewarm water and wrap the little one in a towel. "Congratulations! It's a boy!" The woman relaxed against the table before she smiled softly "A baby boy..." Tears pricked her eye as she held out her arms to Oidoas. He walked over and carefully handed over the little boy. The baby made a small happy sound as she placed him on her chest and then looked back at Oidoas "Thank you." "It's no problem." He mumbled softly. He grabbed a bowl of warm water and a rag "Here, let me clean you." "Oidoas..." She started after he placed some pillows under her back to help her sit up. "Yes?" He asked her, glancing up from the bowl. "...I need your help again." She mumbled and looked off to the side "I know you don't get along with Maddrair very well because of your differences but I ask that maybe you two can speak out your problems?" He frowned slightly at her words "Maddrair will not listen to me. Besides what's done is done." He shook the memories from the front of his mind and began to carefully wash her. "He will listen to me." She stated and he scoffed lightly "Maddrair listens to no one. He is quite the hard head." "Oidoas, he will listen to me because I am his mate." She replied and Oidoas looked up at her with wide eyes "He mated?" Maddrair was not one for settling down and was told by many that he would just die alone. His stubborn attitude made possible mates turn away from him because he wouldn't listen to anything they said and his stand alone personality made it hard for him to be a romantic partner. "Yes. He had yet to tell anyone outside our clan, Oidoas, but he is my mate and this is his child." She looked down at the baby boy that Oidoas had helped birth. Oidoas stared at her for a long minute. He wasn't sure what to think. The bloodthirsty Maddrair had settled down with a mate and now had a child. "You want peace between our clans for the sake of the child." She nodded slowly "I do. Please, help me get back to my clan." Oidoas took a deep breath and just gave her a nod "Let me see if I can find you some clothes and then I will help you back to your clan."
She reached for his arm as he passed her, headed for the door, "Thank you." "It's no trouble, Miss?" He asked her and she smiled lightly, her pink eye shimmering in the low lighting "Bellarose."
