"Protector or Tormentor"

Roshni's pov

Oh! What a start to the Day!

The Valley seemed to enjoy the sun bath under the shower of the first sunshines. Birds were flying out if their nests and chirping and I could hear the musical water work of the distant Parvati river.

Like everyday, I took out a bowl from my purse and poured the milk and waited for her to come...!

You must be wondering why am I doing this and whom am I waiting for?

Well, let me tell you all, she is my secret Friend of the jungle!

My cute little Kitto!

And we have been friends with each other for two years now and we meet every morning, here at this beautiful place.

In no time, kitto came out of her place and began to drink the milk. And like that, i started my talks with her....just the random silly talks that i usually don't say to anyone!

But she is Special!

I was chatting and giggling when I sensed as if I was being watched from somewhere, frowning I looked here and there and then I saw those Hypnotic eyes!

For some reasons, I could not take my eyes off him.

And then someone came out of his hiding!

Adhikshit Raj Singhal!

Can you believe that, out of everyone, I am meeting the Adhikshit Raj Singhal at my favourite spot?

I don't know how he finds me from my adventures, every time!?!
And why was he even there at this time but nonetheless, I wonder why do we keep meeting each other at the least expected places.

I was kind of embarrassed to face him, as he actually saw me talking to my Kitten....but honestly I didn't think that i need to pretend as a sophisticated girl as today i saw him in a different light!

And soon we both began talking!
Random talks, just the way I like!

The way we both talked being so carefree, brought out a different side of him on the surface.
The first time He came infront of me, I swear I was scared but today, he seemed so common just like us, without any high crown on his head.
I was stunned to acknowledge that The Mighty Singhals can be Commoners like us! But who can blame me, there are many things people say about him and the thing that tops the gossips is that he is Heartless and Arrogant.

But as I have met him couple of times now, I know he is not what people say.... May be he is a little intimidating but not Arrogant!

And what was there in his eyes when we were parting?

I saw a glimpse of Pain?

But why?

Oh God! Why this guy is so mysterious?

My heart told me to ask him if he was ok but my mind refrained and words refused to come out...may be because we were and we have always been strangers, despite our unusual meetings.

From our first meeting to this one, the situation and circumstances have been awkward and somehow we both try hard to hide our real selves.

And not to forget the Kiss!

But there is one truth that I feel both pull and push towards his intriguing personality.

I don't know much about him yet I can feel a certain mystery around him and swearing upon Goddess Parvati, I want to solve it.!

Shrugging those feelings away, after our encounter, I walked towards my home sweet home.

Only grandma was there today as I didn't go to the University, courtesy my two over protective brothers.

They think that something might happen to me if I roam around the village, especially since the Eclipse was in two days.

And they think I am not being safe!

And something wrong is going to happen if I exposed myself to the outer world any more!
And specially after that road incidence, they really think that I might be in some kind of danger!

But being the stubborn me, I made them agree to let me out at least in the nearby areas and they got convinced after me giving puppy looks.

Why should i stop living my life?
I am not going to hide in my room just because some myth says that some Legend is coming to claim his mate on the Eclipse!

Anyway, Grand ma and I ate our lunch in silence and I gave her medicines and she went to her room to take a nap and she asked me to sleep as well.

But who wants to sleep when I have company?

Yes, kids from our neighborhood began to gather in our veranda as it was time for story reading. I read them stories everyday at this hour and their smiling faces further make my day even brighter.

They sat around me and I began reading a book about an ancient Brave Prince and an innocent Princess who is captured by an Evil Prince!

I began reading...

.....With his arms strong and heart Brave, The Prince took out his magical sword and killed the Evil prince with it and freed his Princess from his evil spell!

Everyone applauded for the Prince and Princess as they won over the Evil.

And they lived happily ever After...!

The End!

- I recited the story and looked at the giggling and clapping happy kids around me.

They all looked mesmerised by the story and so was I.
I literally lived for these kinds of fairytales and secretly wished to meet my own Charming and Brave Prince who would fight against every Evil and sweep me off my feet!

I was brought out of my fantasies by the giggles of the kids and soon, they all began to disperse and I began to pick up the dropped blankets, pillows and my Book.
But I halted in my place when I heard an unfamiliar smooth manly voice -

So you believe in Happily Ever Afters Roshni?

I jerked my face up only to see a pair of shinning emerald blue eyes on me with a tilted face!

A shiver ran down my spine and I felt scared of the person I saw in front of me!

He was not ugly or anything, in fact he was undeniably gorgeous but something was off... something so off beat...!

But i could not point out what!

I was rooted to my place when I saw him
licking his lips in a satanic manner and he watched me from head to toe like a creep.

And for the first time, I felt like I should cover myself properly.
I put a blanket over my shoulders and avoided looking at the intimidating man.

You didn't answer my question Roshni? - he asked in a cold tone

H.... How.. Do you know my name?
W.... Who.... Are.... You?

How...did y...you even....get inside? - I asked panicked

Ah! You ask too many questions Princess!
But I like that about you!
You do have a curious mind, don't you?
- he smirked circling around me

I completely ignored his presence and ran inside but I was electrocuted to see him already inside.
He sat on the sofa as if he owned our house.

Ho.... Wha...how... Is this...Possible....Did.... You... G... Get Inside this fast? - I asked in fear

Not everyone who is good looking, is good for you Roshni!
Even the spoiled milk looks white, right? - he spoke ignoring my question

His words didn't make any sense to me yet it was so intimidating and I could feel there was a weird growl in his voice....and I found myself asking -

W... Why are you telling me all this?

Because, you are the Chosen One!
And you believe in the Righteousness!
Tell me Roshni, do you really think teh Legend is the only one deserving of the Powers? - he asked not leaving my eyes

Legend???
And I am the Chosen one? Says who?
I am no one's! - I spoke again, a little angry

I can see, why he likes you! You have that Fire inside you!
Very Interesting mate! - he rather stated

Don't talk in riddles!
I have had enough of this stupid Legend and this Chosen mate talks! - I spat

He chuckled an evil laugh and Spoke -

Let's not beat around the Bush Girl!
I got no interest in the Legends!
But here, you interest me!
I am going to tell you about your so called the Righteous Sighas, whom you stupid villagers worship like some kind of Gods!
Do you really think, they all are Saints?

Let me tell you a story like the one you were reading, its about a King and his two Queens!
He kept his right leg over his left and began to speak -

Once upon a time, there lived a Jungle king who had powers unmatchable!
He was blessed by the Goddess of the Valley herself for having Human mate!
The entire valley lived peacefully and King was supposed to protect all living in the Valley.

Good or Bad, Right or Wrong, the king was supposed to open the valley for everyone with equal rights!

But alas he was not a saint!

On the day of a pure Eclipse, the king was out for his mate.!
The entire valley was engulfed in darkness, the sun was swallowed by the celestial powers.

On his way to claim his mate, he reached a house, where two beautiful young women were sleeping peacefully.

The women were no commoners, they were the daughters of a powerful witch and both her daughters possessed her powers.

The king was only allowed to claim one Human mate but looking at the beauties and the power they had with him, he wanted to be unbeatable and so his Mind changed!

He was greedy, he wanted both of them as his mate..!

And so he did!
For he was sure, who could stand against his desires and actions!

He claimed both the women and took them to his castle, where he mated with both the women.

But the trick he played was, he never revealed about the other woman to his people!

He kept her under a separate tower, no one was allowed to go there except for him.
He played with her emotions and soon, impregnated her, just like her other sister!

The woman was so happy to learn about his child despite being deprived of most of the luxuries that her sister enjoyed.
She had accepted her fate, for she herself was powerful and she thought, with the birth of this child, the king will accept both of them in front of his kingdom.

But that never happened, in fact this unborn child began to inherit the powers from his mother in the womb itself.
Powers that were strong and dark, for she had a witch's blood in her veins too.
But things began to change when this fetus started to show negative powers.

The people around him began to fall sick.
The mother of this unborn offspring suddenly indulged herself in calling for evil powers.
The jungle and the Valley faced many attacks and many unfortunate incidents began to occur around the valley and the King blamed his woman and her unborn child.

He wanted to kill his own unborn child but his mate pleaded and ask for some mercy on her child. She requested her sister to convince the king too, but she returned empty handed.

The king didn't listen to her plees and decided to kill both the woman and her baby on a lunar eclipse.
And that's when the woman was Angered!
In order to protect her baby, She called in for evil witches before the eclipse and got herself blessed but the king was still more powerful, there was a battle between the Singhas and the Witches.

The witched unfortunately, didn't win against his powers but they did cause severe damage to the valley. His kingdom got to know about his two mates and that   angered the court men.

So, a truce was made.!

The legend king would let the unborn baby go alive but his mate was abandoned from the Valley. No contacts was to be made with the other mate and her baby.

In her difficult times too, the woman left the valley along with the evil witches but now she had vengeance in her heart.

And they settled themselves in the adjacent valley as per the Truce.

Time passed, both the babies were born at the right time. The baby born with the Queen was like the Sun.
He was bright and had goodness filled in his blood.

He was obviously called the SINGHA!

Whereas, the baby with the other mate was like the Moon.
And he had freckles and he indeed was dark and had evil powers.

And so, he was called the NIAN!

One was the Day and the other one was the Night!
One had possessed Goodness where Evilness nurtured the other!

Henceforth, the enmity began.!

The Singha verses The Nian!

Centuries passed and Singha and Nian fought with each other for the power and  position.
And so, the Fight for The Mate!

Fight for the Chosen One!

Fight for Powers!
Fight for the Crown!

So tell me sweet Face, are you going to go with the Singha? - he spoke darkly

Why...are you even asking me this? What has this story and the Singhas got to do with me? - i asked bewildered

Now, now...don't be so naive Roshni!
It's no secret that you are the chosen one! Believe it or not, that is your reality!

How is it fair that the Princess always chooses the Prince who has a Royal background and powers?
Why he gets to claim the Chosen one? And why does he acquire all the powers! Does he even deserve this preference? - he asked gritting his teeth

They say they have evil enemies, who are everything Cruel and Merciless!
But do you know, the things, the Legend Singha is going to do to his chosen one is also no less than Merciless and Cruel!

So why the Chosen girl has to feel that her Happily Ever after is with the Singha only?
And why not the other Prince who has powers too?
Why does he gets to enjoy the power always? - he glared at nowhere

Nobody knows how the Singha is, but I do....and I will tell you how that beast is!

He is cruel and destroys everything that comes in his way.
He is going to claim you and lock you in his castle forever....just like his power hungry ancestors!

If you decide to resist his claim, he will kill your family mercilessly and the village people because he is that bloodthirsty when denied!

He is a monster in true meaning!

To disguise, he is a killer in the skin of a gorgeous man!

His eyes glows!

And he hunts!

Run away before the eclipse Roshni!!!

Save yourself!
Save yourself from the Singha!!!!
Or, he is going to Hunt you down!!!

So tell me Roshni, is he still going to be your Prince Charming?
Do you think, he is the Protector of you all, like they claim?

Or He is the Real Tormentor?

Do you think he is worth your powers?

Come with me Roshni and I will make my Princess! - he said eyeing me

I... I... Don't know a thing about this!
Why should I even believe you? - I replied with courage

The Eclipse is tomorrow, why don't you see for yourself that I am not the chosen one and all these theories are just myths.!

He chuckled darkly again and then said in his cold tone -

Well, I tried my best to alert you!
When you get trapped in his lies, Don't say that nobody warned you!

However, the claim this time will be interesting, very interesting!

Let The Battle Begin!
Let's see what you got!

And with that, he was gone!
Who was he?
Was he telling me the truth?
Is the legend a tormentor?
Is this whole theory of Eclipse and the Singha and his Human mate true?

And the most important thing :

Am I really the Chosen One?
What fate have i got written for me?

What am I going to do if in real I have to choose?
Am I really going to be claimed on the Eclipse tomorrow, just the way it has been mentioned in the scripts or the way that guy mentioned?

Oh Goddess Parvati!
Keep me Safe!
