(SKYLAR'S POV)

After all the chaos, we all gathered up at the base or the croxcave as Ryder calls it. According to him, it makes us cool or something as if having superpowers was not cool enough.

"Griselda's power has increased a lot since the last time we fought her. You all know what that means right."

I looked at blaze as he said that bandaging his forearm. I do agree with him, we were severely damaged hell we barely survived.

"You know I know what that means but just to confirm, you also mean that same thing only right?"

I glared at Ryder for him to take a hint and shut up. I swear one day I might kill him. I knew blaze won't reply to him as he didn't want to waste his energy on him. To save Ryder from dying, I changed the subject.

"We should prepare ourselves for worse and since she used her powers, she will soon start questioning them. I think we should tell her now and start training her."

I said that looking at the unconscious figure of the girl. She is of my age only, but she looks so normal I don't understand how she is the answer to all this mess.

"I think she is dead."

Ryder said and started poking her.

"Stop poking her you moron. She is not a toy and remember as soon as she wakes up you stick with the story and make sure she reaches her home safely."

I said that sighing. Sometimes, he behaves like a child but if he gets serious, he gets scary and I won't ever tell him but even I get a little scared.

"Ryder do what Skylar said while we ask Griselda some questions. Someone is helping her; she can't get this strong herself."

From the way he talks it's obvious he is our leader, and we all listen to him. We know he will try his best to save everyone, but things will change now if she joins us and we all know she has to, but he will think of her as a weakness in our group.

I just hope she is strong enough to handle all this cause her life will only get tougher.

With giving her a last look, I start walking to the prison where we have kept Griselda until she is moved where all the villains are locked.

Griselda, she is your typical villain. The one who looks scary and had this emo look but all that is just a façade to hide their real self.

"I will give you 3 minutes to tell how, when, and where. Otherwise, you know there will be consequences."

Direct to the point, I wish she is intelligent enough to know what he is asking because he won't explain himself and I really am not in the explaining mood.

"What the hell are you spewing?"

She said that glaring at us. I looked to Nate then at Griselda then just sighed and spoke, "What he means to ask is how, when, and where did you get this powerful? Cause let's be honest we all know you couldn't pull that all so easily it's clear someone is helping you, now the question is who? "

In return to all my explanations, she smirked and said.

"You tell me who was that girl because I sensed her energy, and she is different and much more powerful than you all."

I kept my expression in check and thought that if we tell her then she would spread the word around and that will be more dangerous.

But if we don't then also the girl's life will be in danger as curious villains are worst.

With a sigh, I said, "It's going to be a long day"

(Unknown P. O. V)

It's been 2 days since I met him. I understood what the taskmaster meant by gift. After he left or vanished in thin air, I didn't take him seriously which I should have.

Mom had gone to buy some groceries and I was watching TV and eating some popcorn when I saw Williams face again, I felt so angry, and before I knew the fire alarms were ringing. The popcorn caught fire and I had no idea how.

I ignored it the first time, but these fire incidents kept happening and I noticed that they always happened whenever there was a shift in my emotions.

In the end, I accepted that I now have magical powers or should I say fire powers and that man was not spouting rubbish.

As per what he said he will be back to get my answer.

He never really mentioned when or where, so I just stayed in my room as he came here only last time.

It was near 11 and I was done for the day, as I was setting my bed to sleep there was a sudden flicker of light then a voice, "I hope you liked the gift, but if you wish to keep it and get much more you should say yes to the deal I will present to you"

I turned back and looked at him. He was still looking the same dark, mysterious but this time he was also wearing a leather jacket.

Before he could even speak another word, I screamed yes. He must have expected me to say yes, but he wouldn't have expected that I would have said without even listening to what's the deal.

"Remember girl if you wanna back out later you can't. You should definitely listen before agreeing to things."

He may know about my past, but he doesn't know me. I just rolled my eyes and said, "Blah Blah Blah... listen, taskmaster, if I think which I hardly do but let's say I did then it's a given that I will say no. Don't ask me why. As per the deal, you need me to use my powers only otherwise you wouldn't have given me those. See, I am not that dumb. Now the thing that matters is that what do you need me to use my power for? "

He looked at me then just nodded and said, "You must be aware of the super beings, you have to fight them. Winning is not compulsory. But don't worry I will train you."

"So what you are saying that I have to just fight the supers? I mean all offense to them but I have to waste my time fighting them and that too loose? No way! Nope, Not happening. I'll win for sure."

He looked at me with a surprised face or I guess a surprised face as it's quite hard to see his face in this damn darkness.

"We'll be in contact soon."  With saying that he went poof, leaving me thinking/brainstorming should I tell mom about this double life I am going to have or not?

Is he hot? At least my supposed trainer should be hot or else it will be no fun.

Wait, I need a name. at that moment, the clock struck 12.

And I got a name, Midnight.
