Chapter Twenty - Depths Of Evil
As Pan joined up with the Argonauts, Xerxos looks upon the group with a sinister smile on his face.
Xerxos: I knew you would come, Satyr. It was only a matter of time.
Pan: I was preoccupied at the time. As we speak, the Pro Heroes of this fine establishment are in the process of pushing back your forces. It would be wise for you to surrender.
Xerxos: There is much that you do not know, Satyr. Look around you. I have the legions of Tartarus at my command. You cannot hope to stand against me.
Pan: You underestimate the resolve of my allies. As long as they draw breath, they will never give up!
As Pan said this, the Argonauts rallied around Pan, ready to fight against Xerxos and the generals of Hecate. Despite this, Xerxos remained calm.
Xerxos: You are truly blind, Satyr. You fail to see the powers I now wield. The powers I now wield surpass yours!
As Xerxos said that, his tattoos began to glow. Pan and the Argonauts stepped back as they prepared for another attack. The generals of Hecate moved in to attack.
Xerxos: I brought you all here with the promise of a grand reward. Now I shall grant you it.
Xerxos then raised his hand and began to drain the life from the generals of Hecate. They were unable to fight back as they were absorbed into Xerxos. As their bodies were reduced to dust, Xerxos felt his power increase tenfold.
Xerxos: And with their sacrifice, I shall fulfil Hecate's will!
Pan: Look at how far you've fallen, Xerxos. Your lust for power and your misguided loyalty to Hecate has led you down this dark path. Now you're nothing more than an agent of evil.
Xerxos then began chanting an ancient incantation. Before anyone could react, four coffins had risen from the ground. Immediately, Pan and the Argonauts became concerned.
Pan: Stay close to me! Be prepared for anything!
Pan sensed something very wrong as the coffins began to open. Four figures soon stepped out of the coffins. One was a man wearing Iolcan Armor wielding a sword and a shield. Another was a man wearing gladiatorial armor wielding a double bladed spear. Another was a large muscular man armed with nothing but his fists. The last was a woman wearing tribal clothing armed with a bow and arrow. Their bodies appeared grey and in a state of minor decay: marred by cracks and other imperfections. Their eyes began to glow purple. As they stepped forward, the Argonauts were confused.
Midoriya: Who are they?
They turned to Pan to see him visibly disturbed.
Pan: Jason....Achilles....Hercules....and Atalanta.
Talia: I....I know those names.
Pan: They were the original Argonauts.
As Pan was in a state of horror, the reanimated Argonauts began to regain their consciousness. They looked around in a state of confusion.
Achilles: Where am I? What's going on?
Atalanta: This...this isn't right. Something's not right....
Hercules: Pan? What are you doing here?
Pan: My friends.....
Jason looked around to see Xerxos sanding behind him. Jason looked at himself and his reanimated comrades and quickly realized what was going on.
Jason: We've been reanimated....by the Blacktongues!
Xerxos: How observant of you, King Jason. In life, you were the greatest enemy of the Blacktongues. Now in death, you will serve us.
Achilles: Like hell we are!
As the reanimated Argonauts moved to attack, Xerxos applied his magic to control them. They were unable to move.
Pan: You fiend! Does your evil have no bounds?! You have the gall to reanimated my old comrades and use them as tools of evil! What's even worse is that you do so in my presence!
Xerxos: As I said before, Satyr. You fail to see the powers I now wield. I have brought your precious Argonauts from the dead and now they serve the will of Hecate!
Pan felt a great rage build up as his former comrades ready their weapons to fight them. The Argonauts ready themselves for the fight ahead.
Jason: Pan....you must....you must destroy us! It is....the only way!
Achilles: Don't go easy on us, Goatshanks! Don't let this Blacktongue filth control us!
Pan: I'm...I'm sorry, my friends.
Hercules: Do...do what you need to do, Pan! Take us down!
Atalanta: Grant us peace, Pan. We know you can.
With a heavy heart and tears in his eyes, Pan readied his staff, knowing that he had to fight those he had fought alongside with on many adventures.
Pan: I promise you all that I will grant you the peace which has been deprived from you. I will not let this....egregious crime go unanswered!
Pan soon turned to the new Argonauts.
Pan: Argonauts. Prepare yourselves. What you face now is unlike anything you have faced before. You now face some of the greatest Heroes I have had the pleasure of knowing.
Talia: Could we...help them?
Pan: We must destroy them. Only then will they return to the afterlife and be free from this vile spell. It will not be easy, but I have faith that we will triumph.
As Pan and the new Argonauts readied themselves for battle, Xerxos issued his command to the reanimated Argonauts.
Xerxos: Argonauts! Obey my commands! Kill the Satyr and his allies in the name of Hecate!
The revived Argonauts had no choice but to obey Xerxos's command. In that moment, Pan and the new Argonauts prepared themselves to fight against the reanimated Argonauts who were now under the control of Xerxos.
