Act 17
The cold night air hit Disha's face as they stepped out of the hotel. Hoseok's grip on her hand was firm, pulling her through the winding streets of Seoul with urgency. She could feel his tension, like a coiled spring ready to snap. Her mind was racing, heart thudding in her chest, but she pushed away her fear and focused on keeping up with him.
"Where are we going?" Disha asked breathlessly as they turned a corner into a quieter alley.
"Someplace safe," Hoseok replied, his voice low, eyes scanning their surroundings. "We need to lie low until I can figure out our next move."
Disha wanted to ask more—about the Order, the Key, and everything else that had turned her world upside down—but the intensity of the moment kept her silent. She felt like they were being watched, every shadow hiding an unseen enemy.
Suddenly, Hoseok stopped, pulling her into a narrow alleyway between two tall buildings. He pressed her back against the cold brick wall, his body close to hers, shielding her.
"Stay quiet," he whispered urgently, his breath warm against her ear.
Disha held her breath, listening. Footsteps echoed nearby, steady and deliberate. They grew louder, then paused, like whoever was approaching had sensed something. Hoseok's hand tightened around hers as they waited in the dark.
A figure appeared at the mouth of the alley. Disha's heart raced as she saw a man, tall and broad-shouldered, dressed in all black with a hood pulled low over his face. He looked around, his gaze sweeping the alley.
Disha felt a shiver run down her spine as the man lingered for a moment, his eyes narrowing. She barely breathed, her fingers gripping Hoseok's hand tightly.
After what felt like an eternity, the man turned and walked away, his footsteps fading into the distance.
Hoseok exhaled, his body relaxing slightly. "We need to move. They're getting closer."
"Who was that?" Disha asked, her voice barely a whisper.
"One of the Order's scouts," Hoseok said grimly, pulling her away from the wall. "They know we're here. It's only a matter of time before they find us."
They continued through the maze of alleyways, finally arriving at a nondescript building. Hoseok punched a code into a keypad, and the door clicked open. He ushered Disha inside, locking the door behind them.
The interior was dark and sparse, with only a few pieces of furniture and a flickering lamp on a small table. It didn't look like anyone lived here, and Disha guessed it was one of Hoseok's safe houses. He led her to a couch, motioning for her to sit down.
"Are we safe here?" she asked, her voice still tinged with anxiety.
"For now," Hoseok replied, sitting down beside her. "This place isn't on any official records. They won't find us easily, but we can't stay long."
Disha nodded, though her mind was far from settled. The weight of everything Hana had told her—and what Hoseok had confirmed—pressed down on her like a heavy blanket. She needed to know more.
"Hoseok," she said quietly, turning to face him. "What happens now? What are we going to do about the Order?"
Hoseok's eyes darkened. "We have to stop them. They're getting closer to the Key, and if they unlock its power... the world as we know it will change forever."
Disha's stomach churned at the gravity of his words. "But how? How do we stop them?"
Hoseok ran a hand through his hair, clearly deep in thought. "There's someone I need to meet. Someone who can help us. But it's risky—getting to him means crossing into the heart of the city, and the Order will be watching."
"Who is he?" Disha asked, curiosity piqued.
"A former member of the Namsan Group," Hoseok replied. "He's been off the grid for years, but he knows more about the Key and the Order than anyone else. If anyone can help us, it's him."
Disha's mind swirled with questions, but she focused on one. "Why did he leave?"
Hoseok hesitated for a moment before answering. "He didn't agree with how the Namsan Group was handling things. He wanted to destroy the Key, but the Group refused. They believed it was too valuable, too dangerous to risk destroying."
"And you?" Disha asked, searching his eyes. "What do you think?"
Hoseok sighed, leaning back against the couch. "I don't know, Disha. I've been trained my whole life to protect the Key, to keep it safe. But after everything that's happened... I'm starting to wonder if it's worth the cost."
Disha reached out, her fingers brushing his arm. "Whatever happens, we'll figure it out. Together."
Hoseok smiled softly at her, though the tension didn't leave his eyes. "I don't deserve you."
Disha opened her mouth to respond, but before she could speak, the room's lights flickered. A sudden, low hum filled the air, and Hoseok was on his feet in an instant.
"What is it?" Disha asked, her voice trembling slightly.
"The security system," Hoseok muttered, his jaw clenched. "They've found us."
Disha's heart pounded as Hoseok grabbed a small device from a drawer and activated it. A holographic map of the building flickered to life in the air, showing red dots closing in on their location.
"We need to leave. Now," Hoseok said, pulling Disha to her feet.
They rushed toward the back exit, but just as Hoseok reached for the door, a loud crash echoed through the building. The front door had been kicked in.
Disha's pulse raced as she heard heavy footsteps approaching. "Hoseok..."
He turned, his eyes filled with a steely determination. "Stay behind me."
A group of masked figures appeared in the doorway, their black uniforms and menacing presence unmistakable. The Order had found them.
The leader of the group stepped forward, his voice cold and commanding. "You should have known this day would come, Jung Hoseok."
Hoseok's body tensed, but he didn't flinch. "If you want the Key, you'll have to go through me."
The man laughed darkly. "Oh, we don't just want the Key. We want her."
Disha's blood ran cold as the man's gaze shifted to her.
