Act 16
Disha's hands shook as she unlocked the door to her hotel room, her mind still spinning from the conversation with Hana. She kicked off her shoes, pacing back and forth, trying to make sense of it all. Guardians, ancient keys, secret organizations—it sounded like something ripped out of a movie. And yet, the fear in Hana's eyes had been real.
A knock on the door jolted her out of her thoughts. She jumped, her heart racing as her mind immediately conjured dark possibilities. With a deep breath, she walked over to the door and peeked through the peephole.
It was Hoseok.
Disha hesitated for a moment, her mind flashing with everything Hana had told her. She had so many questions, and Hoseok was the only one who could answer them. Taking a deep breath, she opened the door.
"Hey," Hoseok said with a small smile, his eyes warm but slightly guarded. "I was texting you, but you didn't reply. Everything okay?"
Disha stepped aside, allowing him in. "We need to talk, Hoseok."
He walked in, a shadow of concern crossing his face. "Is everything alright?"
Disha's eyes flicked to him, her heart pounding. How was she supposed to bring this up? She crossed her arms, feeling a surge of determination. "I met someone tonight. A woman named Hana."
The name hit Hoseok like a punch to the gut. His entire posture changed, his face going pale. "Hana?" he echoed, his voice barely above a whisper.
Disha nodded, not missing the shift in his demeanor. "She told me things, Hoseok. Things about you. About your family."
Hoseok ran a hand through his hair, pacing the room. "Disha, I can explain—"
"Then explain," she interrupted, her voice sharp but calm. "Because right now, I feel like I've been kept in the dark about everything. You owe me the truth, Hoseok."
He stopped pacing, turning to face her. His expression softened, regret flickering in his eyes. "You're right. I should've told you earlier, but I didn't want to drag you into this. I thought I could protect you by keeping you away from it all."
Disha clenched her fists, trying to control the frustration bubbling inside her. "You should have trusted me. I'm not some helpless girl, Hoseok. If we're going to be together, I need to know what's going on. No more secrets."
Hoseok let out a heavy sigh, sitting down on the edge of the bed. "Okay. I'll tell you everything."
Disha sat across from him, her eyes locked onto his, waiting for the truth.
"My family," Hoseok began, his voice low, "is part of something called the Namsan Group. It's not just a business conglomerate, like everyone thinks. For centuries, the Namsan Group has protected an artifact known as the Key of Aeons. It's an ancient relic that can control time itself, and it's incredibly dangerous in the wrong hands."
Disha's breath caught. It was exactly what Hana had said. She waited for him to continue, her heart pounding.
"My ancestors have been guarding it for generations," Hoseok explained. "The Key is hidden, protected by a series of powerful seals. Only my family knows how to access it. But there are people—dangerous people—who have been trying to steal it for centuries. They call themselves 'The Order of the Eclipse.' They want to use the Key to rewrite history, to shape the world according to their vision. If they succeed, the consequences would be catastrophic."
Disha felt a chill run down her spine. "And now they're after you."
Hoseok nodded grimly. "They've been after me for a long time. That's why I never wanted to involve you, Disha. I didn't want you to become a target."
Disha took a deep breath, processing his words. "But I am involved now, aren't I? Whether you like it or not, I'm already in the middle of this."
Hoseok's eyes darkened with guilt. "I know. And I'm sorry. I thought I could keep you safe by keeping you away from this. But it's clear now that I can't do that."
Disha's gaze softened as she reached out, placing her hand on his. "I'm not afraid, Hoseok. I can handle myself. But I need to know—what does this have to do with me? Why did Hana say I've been chosen to protect you?"
Hoseok's expression turned grim again. "It's not just about the Key, Disha. The seals protecting it are weakening. The Order of the Eclipse is getting closer, and there's a prophecy—a prophecy that says only someone from outside the Namsan bloodline can protect the guardian when the time comes. That's you, Disha."
Disha's heart skipped a beat. "Me? But why?"
"We don't know why," Hoseok said softly. "But it's clear now that you're meant to be part of this. That's why you were invited to the conference. The Namsan Group has been watching you for some time."
Disha's mind whirled. "So... all of this, our relationship—it wasn't just a coincidence? You knew all along?"
Hoseok shook his head quickly. "No, Disha, our relationship—what we have—is real. I didn't know when we first met. It wasn't until later that I realized who you were. I kept it from you because I didn't want to overwhelm you. I wanted you to fall in love with me, not some role you were forced into."
Disha stared at him, her emotions a whirlwind of confusion, anger, and something she couldn't quite place. "So I'm just part of some prophecy?" she asked, her voice quieter now.
Hoseok took her hand, his eyes locking with hers, filled with sincerity. "You're not just anything to me, Disha. You're everything. I didn't choose you because of some prophecy—I fell in love with you because of who you are. But now... now I need you. More than ever."
Disha's heart ached at his words, but she still felt conflicted. Everything she thought she knew about Hoseok and their relationship was being turned upside down.
Before she could respond, Hoseok's phone buzzed. He glanced at it, his expression immediately tensing. "They're here."
Disha's eyes widened. "Who?"
"The Order," Hoseok said, standing up and pulling her toward the door. "We have to go. Now."
Disha's pulse quickened, the weight of everything suddenly crashing down on her. She grabbed her jacket, her mind racing.
As they ran out into the night, Disha couldn't help but think that her life had just taken a turn she could have never predicted. But one thing was certain—there was no turning back now.
