Part 10
I couldn't help but blow out a breath. I was panting slightly, but I somehow felt something akin to relief. I wasn't sure why, and I didn't want to examine the it either. I stepped onto to the terrace, half-minded as to whether I should approach the tall basketball player or not. I began drumming my fingers against my thighs, thinking. Then I shook my head, deciding to approach him. I hadn't done anything wrong, and neither had he. I was prepared to forget about his outburst considering that he probably had a right to be pissed. I should have reacted sensitively, instead of rudely laughing at him. I missed that baka.
I tip-toed toward him, hell if I know why I was tip-toeing. That didn't made me stop though. I was pretty close-by, probably in his blind spot considering I had been very careful, I bent sideways, trying to catch a glimpse of what he was watching on his cam. I had always been proud of my dexterity, a benefit of all that dancing around, but today that same dexterity betrayed me. I fell sideways, landing on my left arm with an 'oof!'.
Aomine-kun immediately shot up, looking at me in surprise. I gave a weak laugh from my spot on the ground. He looked as though he was going to help me up, but I realized that he decided against it when his expression hardened. Sitting up gingerly, I smiled tentatively at him. He merely stared at me. His staring went on for a few more seconds, very long seconds... Long enough to seem like an hour. I turned away, not sure why the stare-down was happening.
I did the only thing people did in a similar situation, I cleared my throat loudly. And uncomfortably, looking anywhere but at him. Hearing a deep sigh, I looked up at him, "[Name]..." He paused before, "[Name]-san, what do you want?" I blinked. After all those months of me thwacking him over the head for not using a honorific, he uses it now?
I shook my head, going with the plan I had in mind. "Aomine-kun, I just wanted to say that we shouldn't just leave this friendship we had because of a small misunderstanding." I said it confidently. "Small misunderstanding." He repeated, giving me an utterly blank expression. It was an expression I had never seen on his face. It was usually cocky, amused, annoyingly smug, confused... something of that sort. But never expressionless.
It seemed as though he gritted his teeth, "Alright [Name]-san. Let's be friends." He spat. I gave an elaborate and slow nod, not knowing what he entirely meant by that. He stood up and walked away after that. I stared at his retreating back, confusion filling my mind. I hadn't gotten up, and I remained sitting for a bit more time, even after I could no longer see him descending down the stairs.
Thinking back on the exchange, I remembered the glimpse I caught of the video he had been watching. It was from a month back, when he had played a 'friendly' one-on-one game against Kise-kun. Kise-kun had brought him to the area where the Kaijo dance crew practiced after Aomine-kun won, "Naturally, I won. The only one who can beat me is me." Came the prompt and snotty reply. Aomine-kun would never admit that he had wanted to watch me dance, though Kise-kun got an elbow to the stomach when he his answer to my question, 'What are you guys doing here?', began with, "Oh, Aominecchi wanted to...Oof!" Kise-kun had a camera, one which he used to shoot my dance solo, intending to give it to me later. One which Kise-kun alleged that Aomine-kun had stolen.
I sighed, knowing that things would never be the same. Getting back home, I occupied myself with obsessive cleaning and dusting to take my mind off things.
The next day I didn't really expect to meet Aomine-kun, except I did. And not in a way that I had ever wanted to. I had finished dance practice, and I was walking back home on my usual route. Turning around a corner, I looked up because of an annoyingly high-pitched giggle.
"Daiki!" The girl squealed, hanging onto Aomine-kun, with her hands around his neck. His hands were encircling her waist.
I paused, looking at Aomine-kun in a daze.
"Oh [Name]-san. Hello." He said, looking at me. He turned back to the brunette hanging off of him, "Akako, this is [Name]-san, my friend." He said.
I stood for a few seconds more, not sure what to do. Then I gave a smile, nodded at the two of them, and walked away. I drummed my fingers against my thigh, with a smile plastered on my face as I walked away.
Reaching home, I threw my bag on my sofa and switched on the television.
I stared at the television, unseeing. Thinking about what had just happened.
