Poetry Winner-154Hutson
INTERVIEW WITH: 154Hutson
BOOK: Therapy Against Insanity
1. How did you feel when you knew you were announced as a finalist, and then the first place winner? Describe it to us :)
When I got the notification that I was a finalist..I was happy. Because I already knew that I'd never be able to compete further against all these talented poets. But when it turned out that I had WON..I was completely caught off guard! Me? I won? And it involved me rerading the name in the first position over and over again. Eventually I was filled with gratitude for everyone who'd appreciated my writing and helped me come to win this.
2. What is the best writing piece of writing advice you have ever received?
The best writing tip I've ever received is that to read. Yes, it's that easy. To simply just read. Because you can't write unless you can read. But read only to enjoy, not to learn the writing style of the writer. And eventuality you'll come up with a uniquely beautiful piece of writing from your own.
3. What was the proudest moment in your writing journey thus far?
My proudest moment has to be this..winning first place in poetry for the first time!
4. Where do you see yourself in a few years' time?
Hmm...I really don't know to be honest. I still have a long way to go, and life's hella unpredictable. Maybe somewhere out there. Taking on new challenges. Doing something different.
5. Where or from whom do you get your writing inspiration from?
I get my writing inspiration from other fellow wattpad writers and writers in general. And from...well my own life and the things revolving around me which drive me to express myself into words.
6. Who is your favorite Wattpad author/poet and your favorite author/poet outside of Wattpad?
There's way too many in both wattpad and outside for me to list down. Unless you wanna read on forever...!
7. How and when did you find Wattpad and begin your writing journey on this platform?
I joined wattpad nearly 2/3 years ago. I'd run out of books to read so I ventured upon the internet to find reading apps. That's when Wattpad caught my attention. I stayed as a humble reader for a long time. Then one fine morning I gathered the courage to publish my first book completely unsure of what I was doing...and here I am now with 3 more books published
8. Which were your most favorite and least favorite poems to write and why?
My least favourite has to be "Him" because it talks about love. And I'm not a person who's interested in writing about love...heartbreak or anything related to it. Because I've never felt that way for someone so it gets hard to relate and thus it gets hard to write about it. My most favourite has to be "On the shore" because it deals with pain. And pain is something mouldable. It has been there is all stages of life. So I find it easier to understand and mould it the way I want to. I can write all day about pain because I feel it and relate to it which helps me to write about it.
9. What is one experience in your life that you always could write poetry about, whether it be a happy memory or a sad one?
I can write all day about being in pain, about sorrow or about loss. Cause I've had deep 'relations' with all three.
10. Which poem in your collection means a lot to you and why?
"A small collection of words" means a lot to me. Because here I've taken some words and depicted them not in the way people know them as....but how reality sees them. I feel like it is important to know how important certain virtues are and how we humans are destroying the morals of these virtues.
11. How do you get rid of writer's/poet's block, if or when you get it?
Well I'm a Pantser, meaning that I simply keep on typing and thinking as I go. I do not plot out anything. So I'm basically always in a writer's block. During times like this I turn off the device I'm writing on and just close my eyes for a second. I envision where I want my character to go and figure out the drawbacks of his/her actions. Eventually I end up in a suitable position where I want to drive my story to.
In case of poems, I try to jot down the emotions that have driven me to write this particular poem AND the emotions I want to convey to my readers. That way I can write again with a clear mind and a game plan.
12. Do you think this work encapsulates who you are as a writer now, or have you grown a lot since then?
I am way better now! The poems I write now are more rich in vocabulary, rhythm and emotions than the poems I wrote before.
13. When did you realize that writing was your passion?
I've been writing for a long time now. Poems, personal journal, for educational purposes etc. I can't pinpoint a particular time but it did take me a while to understand that I simply didn't just convey my feelings into words for no reason. It was because I had passion for writing.
14. When did you first start writing?
For as long as I can remember!
15. What advice would you like to give to all the struggling yet aspiring writers/poets out there?
Take a deep breath and think about your story. Think about the part where you're stuck. You can always skip a bit on writing to clear your head. Have faith in yourself and remember, confidence is key.
16. What inspired you to write this particular book?
I wanted to share my thoughts with the world and see if people could relate to the things I go through. Also, I wanted to help people release their pent up feelings though my work.
17. What was the writing process like?
It was really fun and kind of relaxing at times. I never felt like it was a pressure or burden on me.
18. When did you start writing this winning book?
I started writing the book in the 30th of December, 2018
19. Are you planning on professionally publishing your book? If so, when?
I really don't know. If enough people like my book then I may publish it.
20. Does every comment, every follow and every vote for your work still surprise you?
They sure as hell do! This book is completed but I still get so many reads and votes that it surprises me. And the wonderful comments never fail to make my day.
