Historical Fiction Honorable Mention-coldalpha-

TITLE:

The metaphorical aspect shows great quality and a calculated idea. Also, not only is the title original but it is unique too.

DESCRIPTION/BLURB:

I found the mystery of it is alluring and it gives up the right amount of information— not too much yet not too little. It made me excited to read the book and find out what was going to occur, what secrets were going to be discovered and what drove the main character to act upon her emotions.

However, poor vocabulary is a downfall for this description. I think that more descriptive words could've been used to add detail.

COVER

The image is clear and the font is nice— the only addition I would make would be putting speech marks around the quote at the top.

PLOT:

Honestly, I'm in love with the entirety of the plot. It's unlike many stories (which makes it more enjoyable to read) because of the fact that it's based around a character that would be considered a villain— it's not based around the hero like the millions of other stories.

It shows a new, exciting point of view which is captivating and interesting; keeping the reader hooked until the end.

CHARACTERISATION:

I liked how Thalia had a motive behind her actions— she was always the shunned child and retaliated because of it— but I think that she should've had a secret trait. A better explanation would be that we see her the same with everyone (fierce, bold, witty), would've it be nice for her to treat someone different? For example, she could have a soft spot for elders or treat the castle servants with a certain respect instead of her having the same, old personality around everyone.

I also think that Thalia could've had more of a fighting background. Like maybe she was the first princess to train to fight in a war but she got pulled out last minuet? Or maybe before her father died he supported her and had a highly trained guard teach her fighting every morning. The only reasoning for this is because in only the second chapter she's already killing guards with the queen and other guards in the room and she's threatening people with swords whilst the only training she's ever had is quick sparring sessions with an unwilling guard.

Another thing is that even though her mother wasn't a main character, I would've liked to have seen some motives for her. She didn't feel any emotions after locking her child away in the dungeons and never liked her. Why? What happened to that maternal instinct?

CREATIVITY/ ORIGINALITY:

The complete storyline was extremely original and I feel as is you used this to your advantage throughout the book. The story makes for a nice change.

The only thing that could've made it even better would be adding more character depth to make them their own.

9/10

SPELLING & GRAMMAR: A few spelling and grammar mistakes were littered throughout it but not that many to disturb your reading.

12/15.

ENJOYABILITY:

The chapter titles were interesting and like said before, the new spin of having a villain as the main character makes it enjoyable to read since it differs from many other books.

Each sentence pulled me in even more and the only suggestion I would make would to be slow things down a little— add more explanation to their actions. For example, in the second chapter, the main characters thrown in the dungeon. More build up for that would've made it more shocking for the readers.

LITERARY DEVICES:

'The thundering of her heartbeat' 'the blade kissing her neck' , these are both examples of the amazing writing techniques used in the story. I loved that in almost every single paragraph there was a new, different literary device.

DESCRIPTION:

The description in the book was empowering, each sentence giving off a certain tone and affecting the reader in a certain way.
