???: Y/n dear, can you do me a favor and grab some more firewood?

The young boy named Y/n sticks the head out of his door frame as he sees his mother by their stone oven. She wore a simple red apron over her Grey dress, and had a blue cloth sticking out of her pocket in her apron. She had long black hair, slightly tanned skin and amber colored eyes. 

Y/n: Why do we need more now mom? I thought we had enough already?

Mother: Well, I'm going to be cooking a special dinner for just you and me! So I'll need a bit more than usual. Can you please just collect some? 

Y/n: Okay! Um, where's my pack?

Mother thinks for a moment and points toward the door. Y/n sees the supplies sitting behind the door ready for use. Y/n heads over to the back pack and puts it on. Before picking up the strands of string for later.

Y/n: Bye mom, I love you! I'll see you later!

Mother: I love you too hon!

His mother smiles as he walks out the door. Her smile grows bitter sweet as she looks up.

Mother: He's just like you William… and I don't know if it's a good thing anymore. 

She takes out the blue clothes to reveal a blue armband with a strange star symbol on it.

She grips onto the armband before putting it back. She steps away from the kitchen and heads into her room. Inside she kneels down by her desk, and pulls out a small chest under it. She picks it up, and places it onto her bed, and opens it…

----

Later, with Y/n, he's as seen by the wall collecting sticks, and chunks of wood lying around. After he puts down an armful of sticks onto his pack, he spots a familiar face on top of a hill. 

Y/n walks up the hill to see a young girl wearing a red scarf, and a pink sweater over her white dress. She was standing over a young boy, who seemed to be sleeping under a tree.

Y/n: Mikasa?

Mikasa looks up and turns to the source and notices Y/n. She smiles slightly and waves at Y/n, he walks up the hill.

Y/n: What are you guys doing? Collecting wood?

Mikasa: Yes, it seems you have been too. Mrs. Yeager told Eren and I to collect wood.

Y/n nods as he notices the boy, known as Eren. Eren begins to frown and wince in his sleep.

Y/n: Uh, is he alright?

Mikasa: ... I think he's having a bad dream.

Y/n: How could you tell?

Mikasa: Look at his face, it looks... pained.

Y/n sighs and squats down by his friend.

Y/n: ...Huh... wonder what he's dreaming about? 

Eren's eyes suddenly open, causing Y/n to jolt and fall over, as Mikasa remains standing. 

Y/n: Ah!!

Eren: Huh Y/n? Mikasa?

Mikasa: We should probably head back.

Eren: What am I doing up here?

Y/n: You seriously don't remember what you were doing here?

Eren: No... Ugh, it feels like I had this really long dream or something... what was it about? I can't remember...

Mikasa and Y/n sigh, Y/n helps Eren up, however he notices some tears going down his face.

Y/n: ...Eren? Why are you crying?

Eren looked at him surprised as he placed two fingers near his right eye. He then feels a tear land on his fingers.

Eren: I don't know…

Y/n raises an eyebrow as Mikada looks at her brother worried. 

Y/n: Let's all just head home.

----

Y/n, Mikasa and Eren are seen all carrying their respective sticks as they're about to go through the first gate into wall Maria.

Eren: Just don't tell anyone I was crying!

Mikasa: I won't.

Y/n: Same, but are you sure you're alright? Cause if you've been having them for a while, you should tell your dad. He's a doctor right?

Eren: No, dad should definitely never find out! 

???: What are you crying for, Eren?

A drunken blonde haired Solder known as Hannes, approaches the three.

Eren: Hannes!

Hannes: Did Mikasa and Y/n get mad at you or something?

Eren: Huh?! What makes you think I was crying?! Whoa, you reek of alcohol!

Y/n: What do you expect, it's Hannes.

???: It's like, come on, y'know?

???2: Oh?

Eren: You're drinking again...

Hannes: You guys wanna join in?

Eren: Actually... Don't you guys have work? 

Hannes tries to offer Y/n one, but he pushes it away

Y/n: No thanks I choose life.

Hannes: Oh right. And to answer your question, Yup! We're guardin' the gate today! We're stuck here all day, so we end up getting hungry and thirsty. If some booze happens to get into our drinks, so what? It's no big deal.

Eren: What if something happens?! Can you fight like that?!

Hannes looked surprised from what Eren said.

Hannes: Whadya mean "if something happens"?

Y/n: What if titans breach? We can't have drunkards protect us!

Eren: Yeah!

Hannes: Oow. Geez, kids. Don't go yellin' like that. 

???: *chuckles* You've two got spunk kids. If they do bust down the walls we'll take care of business, don't you worry. But that ain't happened once in the last one hundred years.

Eren: Still my dad says there's nothing more dangerous than being complacent like that!

Y/n: Honestly, if titans were to come in, you guys would last 10 minutes.

Hannes: Hey don't say that. And Dr. Jaeger? Yeah, they got a point. We owe them the best effort, but we have nothing to do. When we're up on the walls, we can sometimes see them wandering outside the walls. But this wall is fifty meters high, they can't do anything about it. 

Eren: T-Then you guys aren't actually ready to fight them?

Hannes: Nope.

Y/n: That's comforting...

Eren: What?! Then stop calling yourself the garrison and become the wall repair corps!

Hannes: *chuckles* I wouldn't mind that. But listen kids. If we're fighting, it means things are bad. As long as everyone's laughing at us and calling us useless freeloaders, that means we're all safe.

Y/n and Mikasa notice Eren clutches his fist as he begins to grit his teeth. 

Eren: Even if we can never leave these walls for our entire lives, as long as we eat and sleep, we'll survive... but that makes us just like... just like cattle!

The two other drunk cadets are seen laughing.

???2: That's a brave kid you have there! 

???3: Not like he could do anything about it, huh, Hannes?

Hannes: Y-yeah.

Y/n grabs Eren, and Mikasa, as he begins to pull them a head leaving the cadets behind.

Hannes: Hey kids!

???: What strange kids they are.

Hannes: Do... Do they want to join the Survey Corps?

Y/n and his friends are seen walking uphill as they quietly make their way up through the back alleys of the homes.

Mikasa: Eren. You could stop considering joining the survey corps.

Y/n: Honestly Eren, even I'm on the fence on following you out there too.

Eren: What, are you going to tell me they're stupid too?

Mikasa: That isn't it, just listen-

Suddenly bells are heard in the distance. 

Eren: The Survey Corps are back! The front gate is opening! Come on guys! Let's see our real heroes!

Mikasa: Eren!

Y/n: Oh god, wait up man!

Y/n chases the two as the three of them begin to head down to the main streets.

The three of them join a crowd watching the Survey Corps walk down the street with their horses and wagons. 

Y/n: Man, I can't see anything, what about you Eren?

Eren: Damn it, me neither!

The three find some boxes next to a house, and stand on top to finally see the Survey Corps. The leader of the Survey Corps, commander Erwin, has a solemn look on his face before turning to see the excited faces of Eren. However, once noticing him, Erwin looked the other way in shame, as his horse continued walking. Eren looked confused at him, before noticing the state of the other soldiers...

Some had bandages over their eyes, arms, legs. Some were missing limbs... one thing was common amongst them, they looked dead inside.

???: Is this everyone who came back?

???2: The rest must've gotten eaten. That's what happens when you go outside the walls.

A woman suddenly starts to yell causing the trio to look at the older woman standing amongst the crowd.

Woman: Moses! Moses! 

The soldiers stop as she grabs one of the men by their cloak.

Woman: Um, my son, Moses... I don't see him. Where is he... 

The man looks behind him and speaks to another soldier. 

Man: This is Moses' mother... bring it.

The woman is then given a bloody cloth, as she felt something inside. She trembled as she began to unwrap it... to find a disembodied arm, covered in blood and bruises... the woman began to weep as the man spoke up again.

Man: This was all we were able to retrieve.

Woman: But my son... he helped right?

The man's eyes widened.

Woman: Even if he didn't do anything directly... My son's death helped humanity, fight back didn't it?!

Man: Of course! No... our recon this time didn't... no, we never... never learn a damn thing! It's my fault, it's my fault. My own incompetence killed our men! And we still don't know what they are!

After the Scouts leave, the three stand there stunned...

???: What a mess...

???: You got that right. It's like all our taxes go to fatten them up.

Suddenly a stick hits them in the back of the head, as the man turns to see Eren furiously holding a stick.

???2: What are you doing, stupid brat?!

Suddenly Eren is grabbed by his back pack, as Mikasa begins to pull him back into an alley, as Y/n remains silent and follows them.

???2: Get back here!

As the three made it far enough, Eren continued to frail around like a baby.

Eren: Hey Mikasa let me go!

Y/n: Shouldn't have said that.

Eren: Wha-

Mikasa suddenly tosses him into a wall, causing his sticks to spill everywhere as he holds his back and coughs on the ground.

Y/n: Holy crap! Eren! Mikasa you didn't need to toss him! God damn you're like a bull shark taking testosterone with weekly steroids implants! You're way too strong for a girl! Hell, even a kid!

Y/n began to help Eren up and pick up his firewood. Mikasa doesn't respond to him, and instead continues her lecture.

Mikasa: Eren. Do you still want to join the Survey Corps?

Eren silently looks at Mikasa before looking at Y/n who merely sighs.

Eren: Can you just help pick these 

Mikasa: ... Alright. Y/n... will you be coming for dinner?

Y/n: Sorry I can't, gotta go home and give these to my mom. I'll meet you guys at our regular spot afterwards?

Mikasa: Okay...

Y/n gets up and pats Mikasa's head causing her to blush and hide in her scarf. Y/n looks at Eren.

Y/n: Eren, let's have a talk later about the Scouts, okay?

Eren: Alright…

Y/n is seen walking back into his house with his mom getting most of her ingredients out.

Y/n: I'm home!

The h/c woman turned to her son, and grew a small smile.

Mother: Oh did you finish already?

Y/n: Yup! I got the fire wood like you asked. I even ran into Mikasa and Eren

Y/n heads over to the wood box, and begins to put away everything he collected.

Mother: Thank you, without this I wouldn't have been able to cook your favorite meal.

Y/n halts as he looks at his mother in shock.

Y/n:  Wait, we have steak?!

Mother: * Yes, as well as some pasta, and some bread. I have to feed my little wa-Star after all.

Y/n hugs his mother, who wholeheartedly returns it. 

Y/n: Right. Um, mom? Can I ask you something?

Mother: hm? Yes dear? 

Y/n: ... What do you think of the Scouts?

Y/n's mother stops what she's doing and looks at her son.

Mother: ... What I think… They're a bunch of brave souls, who want to provide for their people.

Y/n: You don't think it's stupid?

Mother: I never said it's not stupid, it's extremely dangerous… However, those brave souls know what they signed up for. And if there's a day they succeed, perhaps they can see what's beyond our… small world.

Y/n: Mom, you were a soldier right? From beyond the walls?

His mother steps away from the counter and sits down at the table. Y/n sits besides her, as she pulls him into a hug. With her fingers moving through his hair she grows a face of despair.

Mother: The world outside is very dangerous, but I came in here, for a better life for me, and you. That's what your father would've wanted. It's safer here than outside, especially with everything out to get you.

Y/n: … Eren wants to join the Scouts… and, I don't want him to. But I know I can't change his mind, so… I thought, what if I join too? And try to help him out there? Keep each other safe, you know?

She looks down at her boy and merely nods.

Mother: Yes I understand… Well, if you decide to really join, I can't stop you. But, I want to talk to you about something before you sign up.

Y/n: Okay, what is it?

His mother pushes him back slightly and grabs his shoulders.

Mother: Promise me... that you won't die out there. I don't want to live without my son. You're truly all I have left.

Y/n: I promise mom. I don't want you to go through that pain...

Mother: Why don't you go visit your friends real quick. I need to prepare something while you're out.

Y/n: Um… okay... 

Y/n goes to walk out, however he looks back at his mom.

Y/n: Mom, are you mad at me?

She merely smiled at him.

Mother: Of course not dear, but I have to be alone for a bit okay? 

Y/n: okay...

Y/n walks out of the house awkwardly rubbing his arm, as he was worried he made his mother mad.

Y/n is seen walking down a stream of water as Eren, Mikasa, and their blonde friend Armin, are seen sitting on the steps. He walks up to them as he catches them mid conversation.

Armin: -having any interest in the outside world is a taboo.

Y/n: Talking about outside again?

Armin/Eren/Mikasa: Y/n!

Y/n: I know you guys love to think about outside and all. But from what my mom always told me, it's not exactly the kindest place

Armin: Still it's our choice if we want to leave!

Eren: Yeah, it's our lives! We can risk 'em if we want!

Mikasa: Absolutely not. *everyone looks at her* Forget about it.

Eren: Which reminds me, I can't believe you told my parents!

Y/n: Wait, they know?!

Armin: huh?

Mikasa: I never agreed to help.

Armin: What did they say? 

Eren: They're... less than pleased.

Armin: It figures.

Y/n: Well, if it helps Eren… I'm going to join too.

Eren: What really? Y/n you don't have to.

Y/n: I already made up my mind.

Mikasa: Y/n pleas-

Y/n: Mikasa, I want to see the outside world too, I wanna see what's out there other than titans. But that isn't my main focus. I wanna help you with your goal Eren, so you have my full support.

Eren: …Thanks Y/n. Really.

Mikasa looked at Y/n wide eyed, before pulling the scarf up over her nose and hugging her knees. Y/n felt bad and sat down next to Mikasa.

Y/n: I'm sorry, but the only way to help Eren, is to stand by him, and protect him.

Mikasa: ...

Armin: I think people are crazy if they think we'll be safe inside these walls forever. Just because the walls haven't fallen for a hundred years doesn't guarantee they won't fall today...

Y/n: Not everything lasts forever…

Suddenly lightning struck behind the wall, as the ground shook and knocked people over as Y/n and his friends were launched a bit into the air before falling back onto the steps.

Armin: What was that?

Everyone picked themselves up as they turned around and saw people running through the streets.

???: That way!

???2: Did something fall?!

???3: I'm not really sure.

Y/n is the first to run and join the crowd as the others quickly follow behind him. 

Eren: Hey, Y/n, Armin!

The four make it to the crowd to see everyone staring at the top of the wall. Y/n stared up, as his eyes were wide, and his body trembled. Eren stands beside him after finally arriving.

Eren: What is it?! What do you see?!

Y/n: I-It can't be! That's impossible!

On top of the 50 meter high wall, a large red hand is seen grabbing the top, as what looked like smoke was coming from behind the wall

Armin: T-that wall is fifty meters high!

A head rises from behind the wall and peaks down on the village. What turned out to be steam was escaping from the titans side of his head and jaw.

Eren: A titan?!

Suddenly the wall gate exploded leaving a large whole in the wall. Rubble began to fly everywhere, pieces of debris slamming into buildings. The giant titan began to lower itself, before completely vanishing from the scene.

Armin: I-it... opened a hole in the wall...

At the hole, a much smaller titan is seen walking through. People began to scream and run as titans began to make their way inside.

Armin: We need to run too!

Eren began to walk forward as the crowd ran past him.

Y/n: Eren!

Eren: My house is in that direction! Mom...!

Y/n's eyes then widen as he makes his own realization. Y/n, however, doesn't say anything as he begins to run home, while Mikasa and Eren make their way home. Armin reaches out to them, however he begins to freeze up and tremble.

Armin: It's over... Countless titans... are going to overrun the city!

Y/n ran past multiple people as he began to make his way home. As he runs through the crowd, he sees a titan a few blocks away pick up and eat a man. Y/n immediately turned away to prevent himself from vomiting as he continued running. Y/n's chest began to pound harder as the homes he walked past were either torn open or crushed. As y/n takes the final turn, he sees his house was torn open. Tears began to escape his eyes as he continued running, suddenly a five meter titan emerged from behind a house causing Y/n to fall back. 

Y/n begins to hyperventilate and crawl backwards as it turns its attention to him. It goes to reach for the young boy, as Y/n shuts his eyes awaiting for a gruesome death…before suddenly lightning strikes down behind the titan as a powerful gust of wind pushes Y/n and the titan slightly.

A monstrous silhouette emerges from what was once his home, as flames sprout into the street. The sun and flames began to reflect off its body as it seemed to be covered in what looks like golden scales. The creature walks out of the red and blue flames, revealing itself. 

From head to tail it was about 16 meters long and four meters tall. It looked like a creature straight out of the stories his mother used to tell him. Something right out of a fairy tale

The creature lets out an ear shattering roar, Y/n covers his ears at the sudden noise. The monster charges at the titan and swings its tail slamming it into a house. Y/n tries to push himself up as the winged beast continues to pummel the titan. 

With its focus on the titan, Y/n looks ahead as what used to be his house. Was now a pool of fire, he had to run… Hopefully his mother had already gotten ready to evacuate. 

Y/n hears heavy, and quick rumbling ahead. An abnormal titan runs out and begins to head straight towards Y/n, before Y/n could run back, a blue fire ball flies overhead. The projectile hits the chest of the titan. In an instant the titan's body catches on fire, before burning all skin, muscle, and bone into ash. Y/n looks back at the beast to see it fighting a group of titans heading directly towards it. Y/n decides to stop wasting time, and continues running.

Y/n headed straight to the main gate into Wall Maria, ahead were a horde of people running through, heading towards the boats. The young boy squeezes past the panicking crowds. Y/n looks around, searching for his mom or friends. He couldn't see a thing amongst the sea of people. Someone grabs his arm and begins pulling him towards the boat. 

???: Please let me son and I on board!

Y/n looked up, it was a man, one he certainly didn't know.

Y/n: Got off me! I don't know you!

???: Shut up kid! You're my ticket out of here!

Suddenly Y/n is pulled away by a garrison soldier who stares down at the man.

Soldier: For the trick you just pulled, this kid could get on now. You on the other hand better step back!

The soldier pushes the man back, before looking down at the kid.

Soldier: You better get on the boat now. Space is running out.

Y/n: But I need to find my mom!

Soldier: I ain't letting any kids be left behind. Get on now!

Y/n begins to tear up as he gets onto the boat, he sees a bunch of adults with their children. 

???: Y/n!! 

Y/n looks at the front to see Armin seated with his grandfather. Y/n runs over as Armin gets up and hugs him.

Armin: Are you okay??

Y/n: My house, i-it was on fire! There was this thing! It looks like a dragon or something!

Armin: What? What do you mean? They're not real, right?

Y/n: I don't know anymore… Wait! Have you seen Eren and Mikasa?!

Armin: No I've been trying to find them in the crowd… wait, there they are! 

Armin points by the boarding dock to see Eren and Mikasa being handed to a garrison Soldier.

Armin: Eren right here!

???: Armin. Not right now, they've been through a lot.

Armin looked at his grandfather confused, while Y/n focused on the look of their faces..  they've seen horrible, horrible things… and they're alone… it didn't take long for Y/n to piece together what happened. 

Eren and Mikasa sit across from the two boys, as Y/n looks at the two, clearly worried. Y/n's mind begins to wander back to his mother. Did she die back there? Or is she safe? Where is she? The boat begins to suddenly move as Y/n notices the gate finally being lowered… 

But before it could shut, the gate explodes as a titan covered head to toe in armor smashes through.

The titan stands up straight as more titans begin to walk through… wall Maria, is compromised.

Eren suddenly stands up, his hand clenching into the railing an he grits his teeth.

Mikasa: Eren…?

Armin: What’s wrong, Eren? Eren?

Eren: I’ll kill them all!  I’ll wipe every one of them… off the face of the earth!

Armin: Eren...

Y/n stares at the Eren for a moment, however, couldn't think of anything to say. No comforting words, nothing… His attention is brought to the sky, as he sees the beast from before flying overhead, and flying past them…his mine was plagued by many many questions.
