Charlie's nose scrunched up as she stared in disgust at what Sam was doing. Sam looked up and stared at her best friend, her fry halfway into the shake they were sharing.
"That's gross," Charlie grimaced and pushed the strawberry drink towards Sam. She took out her fry and bit into it.
"It's good!" Sam chewed. "Give it a try."
"You're out of his tree, Sam." Charlie shook her head and turned away from Sam, waving one of the waiters over to order another shake.

Sam shrugged and finished the fry. More for me then, Sam thought.
Sam then turned to the rest of the team, and they were unusually quiet. They're usually cracking jokes, or at least talking about something. And they were eager to arrive when they were back at the school field.
"C'mon girls! Let's hear some lingo! We won!" Sam spoke up and smiled. They all sighed simultaneously and shrugged their shoulders, murmuring in agreement. Soon they started talking again. "That's more like it."
(Let's Hear Some Lingo - A command to start talking)
A couple of moments later, Sam saw Charlie's hand reach into the basket of fries and took a fry. She said, "Don't look now Sam but.."
"God Charlie, don't be an idiot stick. If ya' say that, of course I'm going to turn around and look at what ya' don't want me to-" Sam swiftly span around in the stool she was sitting on and her eyes landed on a group huddled around a table. But not just any group, Benny and the sandlot boys. Sam groaned and turned around before burying her face into my hands.

"He won't leave me alone, will he?" Sam asked outloud, but more to herself.
"I guess not but, give him a shot Sam." Charlie answered. Sam froze for a quick moment before lifting her head up as another strawberry shake was placed in front of her on the counter.
"Are ya' really sayin', what I think you're sayin'?" Sam blinked repeatedly as she stared at the girl in front of her. Charlie slowly nodded then took a sip of her shake out of the straw. "Who are ya' and what have ya done to Charlotte Daisy Smith?"
"I'm just sayin', he said he was sorry so I guess you can forgive him-"
"No. No, no, no. I can't believe you're sayin' this to me Charlie. Why are ya? You just said that you didn't want me doing anything with him!" Sam noticed how Charlie was seated next to her, facing her but glancing at the group of boys.
Charlie took another glance but took a little longer to turn back to Sam. When she turned back to Sam, her cheeks were a rosy pink. Sam already knew what was happening, and she was going to put a stop to it.
"Wait," Sam noticed who Charlie was looking at and grimaced.. "Please don't tell me ya' like...Bertram?"
Charlie's cheeks burned a deeper shade of pink that it almost looked red. Sam's jaw dropped as she gaped at her in shock. Sam turned in the stool and looked back at the boys. Bertram was staring at Charlie, but then his eyes trailed over to Sam.
Sam quickly turned around, facing the counter. "I can't believe you!" Sam slammed her hand on the counter, making Charlie flinch, and the voices talking of the team silenced, trying to listen in. "How dare you do this-to me of all people! I'm your best friend, Charlie!"
"Sam I-"
"Save it! You're just telling me to forgive him so that I can take him back so it can make it alright and dandy to date Bertram right? I should've known, but I was a ditz not to!" Sam could feel her nose flare, and she did nothing to try to calm herself down.
Sam abruptly stood up and threw some cash from her pocket on the counter.
"What're ya' doin'?" Zoey spoke up.
"Give ya guys some green as a good friend," Sam glared at Charlie with narrowed eyes. "I am to pay for this little celebration get together."

Sam whipped around and sped towards the door. The bell on the door jingled violently when she opened and slammed the door shut.

Benny's eyes followed Sam as she angrily left the diner. Benny, along with the sandlot boys all heard what Sam said since she practically screamed at her friend, and Benny couldn't believe his ears. Benny slowly turned to look at Bertram who's face was burning red. The rest of the boys did the same.
"What. Happened?" Asked Squints, who took off his glasses and wiped it on his shirt before putting them back on his face and speaking. He kept looking at Bertram then at Sam's friend.
"Yeah, I uh, might like Charlotte and I might've, um, told her to convince Sam to forgive Benny?" He stuttered and pushed his glasses farther up his nose.
"What?" Benny asked in shock. "After the game?"
"Ye-yeah, because I knew you were gonna try to talk to her since you haven't seen her in a while and I knew that she was gonna reject you, so I talked to Charlotte in lunch today and she agreed." Bertram explained.
Benny shot up from his seat as his eyes widened. "I have to go." Benny quickly said and ran to the door just like Sam did.
"Benny!" The boys called after him. Benny turned around and said, "I have to go find her before she does something she's gonna regret!"
Benny had a gut feeling Sam was going to do something.

Benny panted heavily as he stopped and bended over to place his hands on his knees. He heard grunts and he lifted his head up, to see Sam furiously swinging her bat to hit some baseballs across the sandlot.
Benny stood up straight and ran to Sam, then placed his hands on the bat to stop her movements. Baseballs were littered on the field, and then Benny realized that she did that when she was mad to calm herself down.
Still to that day, Smalls and Benny go to Mr.Mertle to talk about baseball every week and when they did, after it, Benny would peek over the fence and see a blonde girl doing the same thing Sam was doing then. He never knew she was Sam, even though he watched her swing for a couple of weeks, because she had her back towards the fence. She never turned around.
Sam tried to pull the bat out of Benny's grasp, but his hands tightened. Her eyes narrowed into a glare. "Let it go!"
"No. Sam, drop the bat." Benny softly demanded, peering into her blue eyes who were littered with even more green specks. It almost looked like a small section of each eye was green.
"No!" She kept pulling the bat, but with no luck. She was wearing a black tank top so that meant she took off her varsity jacket. Benny noticed that the fair skin on her shoulders were turning red, so she knew she was sore but she kept hurting herself.
"You're sore, Sam. Take a break." Benny's hands trailed down to Sam's so that he can try to take her hands off the bat.
"No!" She kept yelling. It was like that was the only word she knew.
"Sam please. Let me help ya'..."
Benny sighed in defeat and let go off the bat while taking a step back. Sam wrapped her fingers around a ball that was on the ground next to her, and threw it in the air. She swung the bat and then she held it out at arms length with her right arm, watching where the ball was going. That was Benny's chance.
Benny sprinted to where the bat was and took it out of Sam's grasp. Her head whipped to Benny and she ran to him. Benny lifted the bat over his head where he knew she couldn't reach because he was taller than her. Sam jumped to get the bat, but failed.
"Rodriguez..." She slowly started, her voice surprisingly low and calm. Benny's heart started to ache at the fact that she wouldn't call him Benny anymore. "Give me back my bat."
"No Sam, you're getting hurt. Ya' have to stop." Benny started to explain, letting her know how he still cares for her.
"Look," She placed her hands on her hips. Benny imagined his hands on her hips instead of hers, just how he did when they used to kiss. Both Benny's hands and lips started to imagine the feel of her. "I know you're doin' this 'cause ya' still 'care for me' well, ya' should've thought about that before insulting me that day."
The flashback of that day started to play like a movie inside Benny's head. He didn't notice how he subconsciously lowered the bat until Sam took it out of his hand. Benny stepped towards her but she took a step back, hugging the bat protectively to her chest. Benny kept reaching for Sam while she kept taking steps back to get farther away from him.
"Let me help ya, Sam-"
"NO! I don't need any help, especially from you Rodriguez!" She snapped.
"Please-"
"JUST LEAVE ME ALONE! Don't ya' get it! I don't want ya' anymore! I want ya' out of my life! Just leave Benny!"

Benny's face fell, and hurt filled his honey hazel-green eyes. He started blinking repeatedly, almost like if he was blinking back tears. Sam realized he was. Her heart started to ache, a lot. And that's when she started to feel bad, real bad.
"Benny I-" Sam started but Benny put his hand up to silence her.
"I get it, Sam." His voice started to quiver. Sam's own eyes started to fill with tears. "I'll get out of you're life, I'll leave ya alone. Just like ya' want, whatever makes ya' happy."
Sam dropped her bat and reached her right arm out to touch Benny, but he took a step back, just like how Sam was doing to him. His eyes trailed down to Sam's arm, then he looked up at her again with cold eyes.
Sam loved staring into Benny's eyes, but the coldness in his eyes makes Sam tremble with on the inside.
With one more glance into Sam's eyes, Benny turned around, and jogged out of the sandlot.
Sam couldn't stop the sob that escaped her lips. It was her who messed up that time.
