Chapter 7: Cruisin' for a Bruisin'
Lorelei belongs to -jaffxa-
"Moon tiara magic!" Sailor Moon shouted as she destroyed another monster.
Mercury ran his hand over the surface of a seer Grimm making the creature replay the scene again.
"Stupid sailor brat. One day I'll destroy you," Mercury muttered to himself.
Suddenly a wave of water crashed behind him and it materialized into a woman wearing a bloodstained pink dress with a rat's nest of black hair.
"Oh Mercury I've been watching you. It's amazing how those girls can best you so easily." the woman said
Mercury scoffed, "What brings you here Lorelei?"
Lorelei opened and closed the scissors she was holding in her hand, "oh nothing it's just that I think you could use some help taking down the sailor scouts."
"I don't need help. I've just had a bit of bad luck is all."
Lorelei ran her finger over the blade of the scissors, "Bad luck or no it's been rumored that her majesty is thinking of replacing you. Everyone is clamoring for your position."
Mercury clenched his teeth, "fine what do you have in mind?"
The young woman's hair stood on end, "it's simple. We invite human couples on a cruise. It's as you said love is the biggest output of energy there is. It'll be perfect."

"Sunset Romance Cruise Ship. The ship you can't miss out on. Filled to the brim with activities for you and the one you love most," Ruby read aloud from the pamphlet sitting on her desk. She had received the advertisement in the mail the day before and decided to bring it to school. "I wish I had a boyfriend so I could go."
Jenni leaned back in her chair, "I doubt you would get to. My dad tried to make a reservation but they're booked for months. It's crazy."
Ugine walked over to them, "and what are my two favorite ladies reading today?"
He picked the pamphlet up, "oh is this that cruise ad? You know I could tell you exactly how this ship was built."
"No thanks Ugine I think I'm good," Ruby said trying to fight the urge to roll her eyes.
The fox boy's eyes suddenly widened, "oh my gosh I completely forgot to give my neighbor the free cruise tickets I won."
Both Ruby and Jenni looked shocked.
"How did you win free tickets?!" Jenni asked in disbelief.
"Oh I entered an online contest," Ugine explained, "but my parents said I can't go. But if you want to I heard that the newsstand is having a contest and cruise tickets are the prize."
As soon as Ruby heard that she raced out of the classroom leaving her friends to stare as she bolted out.
———————————————————
At the newsstand Ruby was told to turn a small wheel which would drop a ball. If it was gold then she would win.
Slowly Ruby turned the crank connected to the wheel and watched as a red ball tumbled out.
"Oh well better luck next time," the contest supervisor said.
The redhead left the line hanging her head.
"Ruby!" Shouted a voice.
Ruby looked up to see Cinder jogging toward her.
"Hey Cinder!"
"What are you up to?" Cinder asked.
Ruby sighed audibly, "I was trying to win cruise tickets in a contest but I lost." Suddenly she smiled, "Hey you should enter."
Cinder twirled a lock of hair between her fingers, "I dunno."
But Ruby grabbed her arm and pulled her to the front of the line. "Hey my friend here wants to try."
The supervisor shrugged, "it's her money."
Cinder grabbed the crank and turned it slowly. As the wheel rotated a golden ball fell out.
"That's it!" The man running the contest said gleefully, "ladies and gentlemen we have a winner!"
He reached behind the counter and handed Cinder the two tickets she had won.
"Way to go Cinder!" Ruby cheered, "Now we can go on the cruise together!"
Cinder frowned, "I'm sorry Ruby but I was thinking of taking someone else."
The girls mouth dropped open, "What do you mean?!"
"I'm saying no. I'm not taking you."
"Well then who are you taking? Your grandma?!" Ruby snapped.
"I don't know who I'm taking," Cinder said, "it's just not gonna be you."
"Hey what's going on?" Blake asked walking over to them.
Zwei sighed from his position on the bench, "just the usual. Cinder won a prize and Ruby wants her to share it with her. So, of course, they're arguing. Again."
It was true, ever since Cinder had joined the sailor scouts she and Ruby would often but heads.
"You know we need to stick together as a team," Ruby insisted.
Cinder smiled, "Hey you're right!"
"Thank you now will you please hand over the-"
"Blake do you want to go on the cruise with me?" Cinder asked interrupting Ruby.
"Me?!" Blake asked in shock.
"Yeah," the raven haired girl said clasping Blake's hand in her own, "this would be a great way for us to get to know each other."
Blake was stunned, "Well I would feel guilty if Ruby didn't get to come along."
Cinder waved her hand around, "Don't. This will be good for you. A chance for you to relax. You can't be studying all the time can you?"
The cat girl sighed, "I suppose not. Ok I'll go. And don't worry Ruby I'll bring you back a souvenir."
Ruby glared at her friends and stomped off, "fine! But don't come crying to me when it sucks to not have me around!"
———————————————————
A few days later it was time for the cruise. Blake and Cinder had been told to dress nicely so Cinder was wearing a red and gold dress with black lacy shorts beneath it and Blake was wearing a purple dress with a gauzy black top.
Ruby was watching as the passengers boarded the ship.
"I'm so glad you decided to come tell your friends goodbye," Zwei said.
Ruby scoffed and pulled the lunar pen from her skirt pocket, "no I'm not. C'mon Zwei we're getting on that boat."
She held the pen above her head, "disguise power! Turn me into a news photographer!"
The pen glowed and Ruby's clothes were replaced with jeans, converse sneakers and a red t-shirt. Her hairstyle then changed into a bowl cut. She also had a large camera strapped around her neck.
The girl leaned down and placed the box that would usually hold the film on the ground. She then opened it and placed Zwei inside. "Ok Zwei lets go!"
Ruby snuck around the passengers and jumped onto a luggage cart as it was being lifted onto the ship.
Up on the deck the captain and the first mate were watching the passengers board. But they were none other then Mercury and Lorelei.
"This was a fantastic plan Lorelei. With this ship filled to the brim with couples we'll collect all the energy we need in no time." Mercury said with a smirk on his face.
With that the anchor was raised up and the ship began its voyage.
On one of the lower decks Blake and Cinder were walking together but they couldn't help but notice that they were the only ones who hadn't brought a date along.
Cinder sighed, "Hey even if we don't have guys here with us I'm happy to hang out with you."
The cat girl smiled, "I agree. This is a lot of fun I'm glad you invited me to go."
Down in the engine room Ruby peeked around the corner to make sure she was alone. Once she realized the cost was clear she opened the box to let Zwei out.
"You ok?"
The small corgi scoffed, "sure I loved being trapped in an airless box. It was a lot of fun."
Ruby messed with the settings on her camera, "now let's go up there and mingle."
"I don't think they let pets on board," Zwei pointed out.
"Well then I'll just say you're my good luck charm. I can't take pictures without you."
"What are you doing down here?!" A voice asked.
Ruby turned and found herself face to face with the captain but she couldn't tell that through the disguise it was really Mercury.
Ruby quickly got an idea. She placed her hands under her chin and batted her eyes, "I'm so sorry sir. I just got separated from my group. I mean there's just so many people on board I must've just gotten turned around. Can you help me find them?"
Mercury sweat nervously, "o-of course I can miss." Then he stopped, "Why am I being nice to her?" He thought inside his head.
Shaking his head to clear his thoughts he took Ruby's hand and led her up to the main deck.
"Here we are. Now I have to get back to my captain's duties but maybe I'll see you later?" Mercury asked.
The redheaded girl nodded, "Sure that would be great."
Mercury watched as she gave him a big smile, "that's funny." He thought, "that girl suddenly looks very familiar."
"Sir?"
Both Mercury and Ruby turned to see Lorelei, still in her first mate uniform, standing there, "the crew is waiting for you."
"Of course," Mercury said, "goodbye for now miss."
Ruby watched him walk away and then saw Zwei poke his head out of the film box.
"Ruby I got a weird feeling about those two. Be on guard," Zwei warned her.
Ruby gasped, whenever her corgi companion had one of these thoughts it usually meant trouble wasn't far behind.
In the captain's cabin Mercury observed a large sphere that was pulsing with energy.
"Do you like it? Look at all the energy we've already collected," Lorelei said, "and imagine what will happen when the passengers' love energy reaches its peak."
Mercury ran his hand over the orb and grinned to himself.
However what he didn't realize was that Ruby and Zwei were watching them from the window.
"Could you hear anything they said?" Zwei asked.
The silver eyed girl shook her head, "no but there's no way they could be evil right? I mean that man was so nice to me."
Zwei watched as the two adults and the strange orb vanished into thin air, "I'm certain these two are up to no good. We have to find them."
Ruby nodded, "then let's start looking."
In the dining area Blake was drooling over how much fish was out on the buffet table. She quickly loaded her plate and began scarfing it down.
"Blake people are staring," Cinder pointed out.
But Blake didn't seem to care and Cinder shook her head watching the cat girl down her meal.
Suddenly an announcement came over the intercom telling the passengers that there would be a party in the ballroom. Thankfully Ruby and Zwei heard the announcement and they knew that this was their chance to catch the villains since basically everyone would be in the same room.
As everyone filed into the ballroom a crew member took the stage.
"Welcome to our cruise's special twilight extravaganza. And here's our captain and first mate to get the party underway."
The curtain rose revealing Mercury and Lorelei standing behind it.
"Welcome ladies and gentlemen," Lorelei said, "we're gonna start off this party with a little bit of magic."
She raised her hand toward the disco ball and it lit up. The disguise faded away revealing the sphere that she and Mercury had been using to drain the passengers energy.
Blake and Cinder were horrified as the passengers fainted around them and collapsed to the floor. Then they saw as both Mercury and Lorelei's disguises faded away revealing their true forms.
"It's Mercury!" Blake realized.
"Wait why didn't the spell work on them?!" Lorelei asked.
Mercury was seething, "it's because they didn't bring dates! We only drained love energy. Now we'll have to destroy them ourselves!"
His partner scoffed, "why would you two even come on a love cruise anyway?"
"It's doesn't matter," Cinder said, "you're going to return all that stolen energy right now!"
Lorelei opened and closed the scissors she was holding and pointed them at the the girls, "sorry that's not gonna happen. Grab them!"
The crew shambled toward the two teenagers but their bodies melted away revealing that they were nothing more then human shaped blobs of water.
Cinder picked up and chair and sliced one in half but all that did was make the two puddles formed into two of the humanoid monsters.
Blake pulled out her power stick and motioned for Cinder to do the same. Both girls then held their sticks up.
"Mercury power!"
"Mars power!"
The power sticks glowed and turned Blake and Cinder into Sailor Mercury and Sailor Mars respectively.
Meanwhile Ruby was trying to find her way to the ballroom but she couldn't find it anywhere.
"Why does the ballroom have to be on the other side of the ship?" She groaned.
She soon came to the door and could hear the sounds of the fight going on inside.
"I have to help those people. Moon prism power!" Ruby's locket glowed and turned her into Sailor Moon.
She raised her leg and kicked the door in, "hold it right there creeps!"
"Sailor Moon?!" Sailor Mars said in disbelief.
But Sailor Moon ignored her, "I'm Sailor Moon the champion of-"
"Yeah yeah we know who you are," Mercury said interrupting her.
The heroine pouted, "Well fine. Come up here and face me if you've got the guts!"
She jumped up onto the balcony of the ballroom but Lorelei followed her, "I'm gonna enjoy shutting you up!"
The villain shoved Sailor Moon through the window and the two of them went crashing through the glass and out onto the deck.
Lorelei then raised her hands up and began controlling the waves. She sent wave after wave at the ship and the heroine. But Sailor Moon did her best to dodge each one.
"We have to help her," Sailor Mercury said.
Sailor Mars nodded and saw the water monsters approaching them, "I have an idea."
She clasped her hands together with her pointer fingers facing upward, "Mars fire ignite!"
She sent the flames at the monsters which made the watery creatures evaporate into steam.
The two then headed out onto the deck.
"Mercury bubbles blast!" Sailor Mercury shouted sending purple bubbles at Lorelei. When the popped they released a black shadowy fog that made seeing almost impossible for the villain.
"Sailor Moon lets do this together," Sailor Mars said.
Sailor Moon nodded and removed her tiara which turned it into a discus, "moon tiara magic!"
"Mars fire ignite!" the fire heroine shouted again.
As Sailor Moon threw her tiara the flames surrounded it setting it on fire and the flaming disc made quick work of Lorelei once it touched her. The three girls watched as she evaporated into steam.
"No!" Mercury shouted, "just my luck even on a cruise ship in the middle of nowhere you Sailor Scouts still manage to ruin my plans."
"Surrender Mercury," Sailor Moon said.
"And tell us who you're working for," Sailor Mars insisted.
"And why you're stealing energy," Sailor Mercury added.
Mercury held up the ball of energy he and Lorelei had collected, "sorry but I'm not allowed to say. See you next time."
And with that he vanished.
—————————————————————
However once Mercury returned to the dark kingdom he was not given the happy greeting he thought he would be receiving.
"I don't know why you bother returning Mercury," Queen Salem snapped, "you may have brought back energy but you still failed in destroying the sailor scouts and you cost me an ally in Lorelei."
"My Queen I swear I don't know how those girls are tracking me," Mercury began.
"Silence!" Salem boomed, "you are forgetting your place. Now wait while I think of a suitable punishment."
Mercury bowed his head, "the next time I see those sailor girls I'll destroy them for sure."
————————————————————
Back on the ship Ruby, Blake, and Cinder watched as the police escorted the passengers off the ship and tried to figure out what had happened.
"Well there goes our fun cruise ship," Ruby sighed.
"Which reminds me how did you get here?!" Cinder asked.
"Well I uh-"
"You just couldn't let it go could you?! You just had to come!"
"Oh c'mon Cinder I said I was sorry!"
Zwei sighed watching them fight, "will they ever learn to get along?"
Blake shrugged, "I'm sure they will one day."
