Chapter 32: The Squabble Scouts

"Give up Sailor Moon! We have you now!" Sailor Mars shouted as she, along with Sailors Mercury, Jupiter, and Venus, chased after their leader.

"Leave me alone!" Sailor Moon shouted as she continued to run as fast as she could. But she skidded to a stop when she realized that the other four sailor scouts had managed to catch up and surround her.

"It's over Sailor Moon," Sailor Mars said.

"Just hand over the wand," added Sailor Jupiter.

"Don't make us stand here waiting all night," Sailor Venus said.

But Sailor Moon stood her ground.

"No way. I'm not handing it over."

Sailor Mars scoffed, "then I guess it's time to do it the hard way."

She clasped her hands together with her pointer fingers facing upward, "Mars fire ignite!"

The flames burst from her fingertips and spiraled toward Sailor Moon, however instead of hitting their intended target the flames lit all of the grass surrounding the other scouts on fire.

"Cinder!" Sailor Mercury yelled before using her powers to put out the flames.

"Oops...sorry guess I overdid it," Sailor Mars laughed nervously.

Now, over in the negaverse, the seer grimm which usually stayed right by Salem's side, was beginning to act strangely.

"What's going on?" Queen Salem asked aloud as the surface of the creature began bubbling.

Suddenly, it let out a bright beam of light causing the dark queen and her nearby general to reel back and cover their eyes.

"An energy surge," Queen Salem said, "but where did it come from?"

Roman blinked to regain his bearings before straightening up, "if I had to guess it must be coming from Sailor Moon and the other scouts. There's friction between them and the grimm was reacting to all the negative energy."

"Oh, and how do you know this?" Salem asked.

Roman nodded to someone behind him and a woman wearing a ninja outfit stepped forward.

"Kunoichi, here has been spying on the sailor scouts for me. Now give us your latest report."

"Of course Master," Kunoichi said with a bow.

She threw two tiny pieces of paper like throwing stars and one floated in front of Salem and the other in front of Roman.

"What's this now?" Queen Salem asked.

Kunoichi formed circles with her hands and held them up in front of her left eye like she was filming something on a video camera.

"Observe."

The blank papers flashed and a video began playing on both their surfaces, it was a video in real time of the sailor scouts ganging up on their leader.

"The four sailor scouts are teaming up against Sailor Moon. From what I've gathered they want to take the moon wand for themselves and kick her out of their group." Kunoichi said.

Queen Salem watched the video begin to replay itself, "this looks real but it could just be an extremely convincing trick."

She shook her head and placed the picture down, "investigate this some more before we move to attack."

Roman didn't seem to question the authenticity of the video. He knew his servant didn't make mistakes in relaying what she saw. But, he couldn't argue with his queen.

Turning to Kunoichi he said, "you heard Queen Salem. Gather some more information."

Kunoichi nodded, "I'll be in touch."

With that she vanished into thin air as she transported herself to Remnant.

————————————————————————

At Roquel Opal's jewelry store, a thief was gathering a few necklaces and stuffing them into a bag.

Suddenly, the lights flickered on and both Roquel and Jenni were standing there. Jenni was holding a pot in her hands while her mother was wielding a golf club.

"Stop right there!" Jenni yelled.

The thief turned to reveal herself as none other than Kunoichi.

"Jenni call the police!" Roquel ordered.

"Nobody is going anywhere!" Kunoichi shouted and she threw a handful of throwing stars at the twosome, pinning them to the wall.

"Sorry but your jewelry stealing days are over!" Another voiced exclaimed.

Kunoichi turned to see Sailor Moon behind her.

"Sailor Moon," Jenni said in relief.

"Uh excuse me Sailor Moon can we have a word with you?" Sailor Mars asked.

"Kinda busy here stopping a bad guy Mars," Sailor Moon said annoyed.

"You completely ditched us to run over here. Remember we're supposed to fight as one?"

"Yeah! And I'm one!"

"I think leadership has gone to her head," Sailor Jupiter said, crossing her arms.

"Look maybe we should handle this after we've handled the burglar?!" Sailor Mercury suggested.

"No, Mars is right we need to settle this now," Sailor Venus said.

"Well it sounds like you already have!" Sailor Moon shouted.

The sailor scouts continued to argue back and forth with each other and Jenni and Roquel exchanged looks.

Meanwhile, Kunoichi used this distraction to slip out of a window. She then shapeshifted into a reporter, whom she had possessed earlier that day.

The woman began snapping pictures of the arguing sailor scouts.

"The sailor scouts, fighting like a bunch of school children?! This will be headline news for sure!"

"How did paparazzi even get in here?!" Sailor Mars asked as she put a hand up to block the bright flashes of light.

"That's a secret," the woman said with a smirk, "but enough about that is there any truth to the rumors that your team is splitting up? Hm Sailor Moon care to comment?"

She pulled out a microphone from seemingly nowhere and held it an inch from the stunned heroine's face.

"Ohhh I get it," Sailor Moon said sheepishly, "this is one of those hidden camera shows. My friends put you up to this hoping I'd make a fool of myself. Right girls?"

She turned to her teammates but they all just turned away from her.

"Oh.."

"Well is it true or not?!" The reporter asked, a bit firmer this time.

"No comment," Sailor Venus said before turning and walking out of the jewelry store, her friends following.

"Oh c'mon don't you want to give me an exclusive on the real Sailor Moon?!" The reporter asked, tailing them outside.

"Hey don't any of you dare say anything embarrassing about me!" Sailor Moon called after them.

"Uh, Sailor Moon?" Jenni asked, "mind helping us down?"

Sailor Moon turned to see Jenni and her mother still pinned to the wall by Kunoichi's shurikens.

"Oh right. Sorry."

She went to go help her friend and her mother but she couldn't shake the feeling that something was weird about that reporter.

———————————————————————

The next morning, Jenni and Ruby were walking to school together, the wolf faunus retelling the events of the previous night.

"And I'm sure if the sailor scouts hadn't shown up that burglar would've cleaned out our entire inventory."

"That does sound scary," Ruby said nodding.

"Yeah but that's not even the scariest part. The sailor scouts were fighting, talking about breaking up their team."

"What?" Ruby pretended to be shocked, "no way. That wouldn't happen."

Jenni shook her head, "I don't know they looked like they were pretty pissed off at each other."

Suddenly, the reporter from the previous night came around the corner, shoving her microphone into Ruby's face.

"Hello there young lady!" She said cheerfully.

Ruby jumped backwards, "what the?!"

"I'm Lisa Lavender! Vale News Network! I couldn't help but overhear you two mentioning the sailor scouts! I'm looking for the latest info! So what you got for me?!" The reporter asked enthusiastically.

"Um...no comment," Ruby stammered.

"Oh c'mon!" She pressed harder, "I heard ya! Sounds like you got some insider info. Did you hear about the robbery they stopped?"

"Oh, um, you should probably ask my friend Jenni there. It was her family store they robbed."

Jenni began waving her hands trying to get Ruby to stop talking but it was too late. Lisa turned and shoved the microphone into her face instead.

"Oh yeah I remember you now! Sorry I didn't recognize you without your jammies! So how about you give me the inside scoop huh?!"

"You sure do talk fast..." Jenni said with a strained smile.

"Part of the job honey," Lisa said and she continued to press the wolf faunus for what she knew as Ruby silently began to slip away.

Jenni noticed this and began to back away as well, "sorry I really don't know anything. Hey Ruby wait up!"

With that, the two girls raced down the street toward their school.

———————————————————————

"Faster you guys!" Sailor Jupiter shouted, "we can't let her get away!"

She, along with sailors Mars, Mercury, and Venus, were chasing Sailor Moon through Oniyuri temple.

The moon heroine had to dodge a kick from Sailor Jupiter and a punch from Sailor Mercury. But, she wasn't fast enough as Sailor Mars swung her leg around and swept her feet out from under her.

Sailor Moon groaned as she landed in a heap in the dirt.

"Ok can we stop using me for target practice now please?" She asked.

"Sorry Rubes," Sailor Venus said helping her up, "but we need to make it look believable. Like we really are wanting you out of the group."

Sailor Moon looked annoyed, "if you want my opinion I think Mars over there is taking this a bit too far."

"Sailor Moon you're the one who came up with this whole plan to make it look like we were having a big falling out remember?" Sailor Mars asked.

"Yes of course I remember! And you guys know I'll do anything to save Oscar from Salem."

"Then we really need to make it look like we're fighting to anyone who may be watching us Sailor Moon! We know that the Negaverse has eyes everywhere. If they think we want you out of our group then maybe they'll try and convince you to come to their side. And then we can storm Salem's kingdom and rescue Oscar."

Sailor Moon rubbed her bruised arm, "still wish there was a way that didn't leave me black and blue."

"Well there isn't so you girls need to keep it up," Zwei said from his position on the temple steps.

Sailor Moon sighed, "fine. But for now let's just take a little break."

———————————————————————

"So Zwei did you find out anything about Lisa Lavender?" Yang asked as the girls were sitting on the temple's front stoop.

"Well I'm almost certain she was in on the robbery. She knew it was going to happen and that you five would be there," Zwei said.

The girls looked shocked.

"Really?!" Ruby asked.

The corgi nodded, "yeah just take a look at the report she did on it."

Cinder grabbed a newspaper from inside her house and flipped to the article Zwei mentioned.

Yang snorted, "Ruby your mouth looks huge in this picture."

"It does not!" Her sister retorted before looking at the photo herself. Lisa Lavender had taken the picture when the scouts were in the middle of their argument. Ruby was defending herself so, of course, the camera had caught her with her mouth hanging open.

"Ah man it does!!!"

"Anyway I've been watching Lisa ever since that robbery. She usually only covers big political stories. A small town robbery? Yeah that doesn't seem like something she'd want to report on," Zwei continued.

"So you think the negaverse has gotten to her?" Nora asked.

The corgi nodded, "I'm almost certain."

"Well that's good right?" Ruby asked, "it means our plan of luring them to us is working. They think I really want to fight on my own!"

"Or that we don't want you on our team anymore," Cinder pointed out.

The teen girl deflated, "or that..."

"Well there's only one way to know for sure," Nora said, "you need to find Lisa and tell her you want to quit the sailor scouts."

Zwei looked nervous, "Ruby, be honest. Are you really sure you wanna do this? I know it was your idea but-"

Ruby nodded vigorously, "yes I'm positive. Anything to save Oscar."

Yang put her hand on her sister's shoulder, "I know you can do this, but we'll be standing by just in case something happens. Ok?"

Ruby gave her big sister a grateful smile.

The next morning, Ruby and Zwei were meeting Lisa Lavender at her home to put the next part of the plan into action.

But both the teen girl and the corgi were shocked to see how lavish the apartment building Lisa lived in appeared to be.

"She gets to live in a place like this just doing news stories?!" Ruby said stunned.

"We don't have time to stare let's just get this over with," Zwei said.

The silver eyed teen nodded and took a breath before approaching the doorbell.

The other sailor scouts, who were stationed around the corner of the building, all whisper shouted "good luck," to their leader.

Ruby cautiously rang the bell for Lisa's apartment and waited.

After a moment the reporter opened the door, "can I help you?"

Ruby took a deep breath and handed her a letter, "here. Uh, Sailor Moon wanted me to give this to you."

Lisa looked skeptical but took the message anyway, "thanks."

"Ok...well, bye!" Ruby scurried off before the reporter could ask her any questions.

The door to the apartment closed and Kunoichi opened the letter.

"Hm, Sailor Moon wants to meet me at the park tonight for an exclusive interview for the Vale News Network. She wants to talk about leaving the sailor scouts. Now isn't that interesting. I'll have to let my master know."

———————————————————————

"Have you gotten any new information for our queen, Kunoichi?" Roman asked as the ninja woman reappeared in the dark kingdom.

Kunoichi had shape-shifted out of her human disguise into her true form, "see for yourself."

She handed him the letter Ruby had given her.

The negaverse general looked over it and he smirked, "Well what do you know."

"I'll be meeting her tonight at eleven. I knew you would want to be there as well."

"Of course," Roman said, "the surrender of Sailor Moon? Now that's something I wouldn't miss."

———————————————————————

A few hours later, Sailor Moon was pacing back and forth in the park. It was getting close to the time she had told Lisa Lavender that she would meet her.

"Ok Ruby you can do this. Remember this is all about finding an entrance to the negaverse and saving Oscar."

As the clock struck eleven Kunoichi slowly rose up from the ground behind the heroine

"Sailor Moon I presume?" She asked.

Sailor Moon whipped around, "what? Who said that?!"

But Kunoichi had already changed her form into Lisa again.

"Sorry sweetie but I'm the one asking the questions ok?" Lisa asked.

"Oh...of-of course."

"So you're really quitting the hero business?" Lisa asked taking out her notebook.

The moon heroine nodded, "yeah. My friends don't respect me anymore. I don't need them."

Lisa set her notebook down, "that's all I needed to hear."

She levitated into the air and shapeshifted back into Kunoichi.

"Wait you were the burglar at Jenni's store!" Sailor Moon said in disbelief.

"Master she's ready for you," Kunoichi said with a bow.

Roman materialized on top of the clock just to Sailor Moon's left.

"Roman..." Sailor Moon took a few steps back.

"Hello again princess," Roman said with a smirk.

He floated down and stood in front of the teen.

"Here's what I'm offering, since you aren't part of the sailor scouts anymore I'll let you come back with us to the dark kingdom."

Sailor Moon couldn't believe her luck, the plan was actually working. She knew she couldn't let her excitement show though. She had to keep making this look believable.

"What you think just because I quit the sailor scouts I want to join up with the negaverse? I didn't come here to make deals with you."

Roman began circling her, "not even to save your Prince Ozma? He's not doing so well you know."

Sailor Moon gulped, "What? What do you mean?! What's wrong with him?"

"Who knows. The last battle left him very weak. Queen Salem isn't even sure how much longer he'll last. But if you were there you could heal him and then you two could be together just like you want," Roman sneered.

"You would really take me to see him?" the silver eyed teen asked.

"Of course I would. But there's one thing you need to do for me."

"Name it."

The negaverse general got in her face, "If you want to see him hand over your wand and crystal."

"So what do you say princess?" Kunoichi asked.

Sailor Moon took a breath, "fine. I'll give you what you want. But only if you bring Oscar here first. I'll heal him and then we'll go back with you."

"Man I thought she would've fought a little bit more before agreeing to give them silver crystal," Sailor Mars said from where her and the other scouts were hiding.

"It's all part of the plan Mars," Sailor Venus assured her, "Sailor Moon knows what she's doing.

Kunoichi could sense the four other scouts and she turned her head in their direction. "Master we have company. The other sailor scouts are here."

Roman dismissed her with a wave of his hand, "don't worry about them they aren't important anymore."

Sailor Moon held out her hand, "so do we have a deal or no?"

Roman extended his hand out and a warp hole opened behind the heroine.

"He's right through there. I'm sorry but he's not really fit for traveling at the moment."

Sailor Moon looked at the swirling portal and reached out toward it, was her prince really just behind it.

"I-I don't know. This seems too easy. Would you tell me more about this portal? No offense but I don't trust you."

Roman nodded to Kunoichi and she removed the bandanna around her head and it elongated into a razor sharp ribbon, "you're not as dumb as you look."

Sailor Moon barely had time to turn around as Kunoichi threw the ribbon out and it wrapped around her wrists, arms, and neck pinning them in place.

"Hey!" Sailor Moon shouted.

Kunoichi began pulling on the ribbon, tightening it, "hand over the crystal! Now!"

"I knew I shouldn't have trusted you," Sailor Moon groaned.

"You stupid girl you never really thought to double cross us?" Roman asked with a laugh, "you're not even a scout anymore so your little friends won't come to help."

"Even..." Sailor Moon winced, "even if they don't want to fight by my side anymore, they're still your enemies!"

Kunoichi laughed, "you really think they'll want to come save you?"

"I don't like this," Sailor Venus muttered.

"I know but we need to stick to her plan. Our main goal is to rescue Oscar," Sailor Jupiter said.

Sailor Mercury pressed her left earring causing a purple visor to appear over her eyes. She began using it along with her data computer to analyze the warp hole Roman had opened.

"These readings are all over the place. I can't tell where that portal is connected too. It definitely doesn't seem like it's from our world," She said.

Kunoichi tightened the bonds on Sailor Moon even more, "c'mon hand over the wand. What do you need it for now anyway if you aren't working with the sailor scouts."

"Maybe this was a bad idea doing this alone," Sailor Moon thought.

Sailor Venus shook her head, "I can't do this guys I gotta go help her." She began to stand up from her hiding place.

"Me too," Sailor Jupiter agreed.

"Not yet!" Sailor Mars argued.

"Sailor Mars the plan is done! If we don't get over there now they'll get the crystal and the wand!" Sailor Mercury said.

"No they won't," said Sailor Mars.

Sailor Venus looked confused, "what makes you say that?"

The fire heroine sighed and grabbed something out of the bush next to her, it was the crescent moon wand with the imperial silver crystal still glimmering atop it.

"Cinder!" Sailor Mercury said in shock.

"It's not what you think I swear," Sailor Mars said.

Sighing she added, "Ruby gave it to me after training yesterday and asked me to keep it safe. That way if something went sideways we would be certain the wand wouldn't fall into the wrong hands."

"And you didn't think to tell us?!" Sailor Venus asked angrily.

"I'm sorry ok," Sailor Mars said looking upset.

The ribbon squeezed Sailor Moon so tightly that she fell to her knees.

Sailor Mars looked over and saw how much danger her friend was in and looked down at the wand in her hand, she supposed the plan really was busted.

"Sailor Scouts charge!" She shouted before jumping over the bushes and running toward their leader. Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Mercury followed suit.

"Gods. About time," Sailor Venus muttered before following her friends.

"Let her go Roman!" Sailor Mars shouted.

Both Roman and Kunoichi turned to see the sailor scouts behind them.

"We are the sailor scouts!" Sailor Mercury shouted.

"Champions of justice!" added Sailor Mars.

"And on behalf of our home planets," Sailor Jupiter said.

"We will protect this world and our princess," Sailor Venus finished.

"And we will punish you!" They said in unison.

"So you are still a team after all," Roman said smirking.

Sailor Mars clasped her hands together with her pointer fingers facing upward, "Mars fire ignite!"

The flames burst from her fingertips and spiraled toward the negaverse creatures. However, Roman dodged at the last second leaving Kunoichi to take a face full of flames. It also burnt the ribbon holding Sailor Moon in place.

Sailor Moon sighed in relief as she was soon able to feel her arms and hands again, "oh that's much better."

Sailor Jupiter crossed her arms over her chest and extended her pinkies and pointer fingers upward as electricity crackled around her, "Jupiter thunder crash!"

Sailor Venus held her right hand up, pointing skyward, "Venus crescent beams!"

She then pointed at Roman, "Smash!!"

A beam of light shot out of the tip of her finger and combined with Jupiter's lightning. But Roman put up a barrier which absorbed the attack.

"Until next time sailor scouts!" Roman shouted before disappearing.

Kunoichi approached the still down moon heroine, "Sailor Moon! The crystal! Give it to me now!" She drew a sword from the sheath on her belt and tried to cut Sailor Moon down.

"Catch!" Sailor Mars shouted before tossing the crescent moon wand to Sailor Moon.

Her friend barely had time to catch it and hold it up above her head to block the sword strike. She pushed back hard, knocking the sword from Kunoichi's hand.

"Thanks..." Sailor Moon said sighing in relief.

"Now you need to destroy that monster!" the fire heroine said.

"No so fast!" Kunoichi said before using her powers to multiple herself.

The sailor scouts looked slightly nervous as there was now at least a dozen of the negaverse monster before them.

"Which one of us is the real one?" All of the clones spoke at once, "think any of you girls can guess?"

They began laughing.

"I will!"  Sailor Mercury said.

She held her hands out in front of her, "Mercury bubbles blast!"

She sent out a stream of purple bubbles from her hands at Kunoichi and her clones. When they popped they surrounded them all in a black shadowy fog.

The clones began looking around wildly but they couldn't make heads nor tails of where they were.

"Feeling lost in a fog?" Sailor Moon asked, "well don't worry, I am Sailor Moon champion of justice! On behalf of the moon I will right wrongs and triumph over evil and that means you!"

"Try it sailor girls!" The Kunoichi clones all shouted as they ran forward toward the sailor scouts.

"Mars fire ignite!" Sailor Mars shouted once more.

Her flames burned through the clones leaving only the real Kunoichi behind.

"Thanks Mars," Sailor Moon said as she held the wand up and drew a large circle of moonlight around herself, "moon healing activation!"

The circle of moonlight encased Kunoichi inside, destroying her and returning Lisa back to her normal self.

"Good going Sailor Moon," Sailor Mars said in approval.

"Well thanks but can I ask, why did it take you all so long to help me?!"

"You told us not to to make sure the plan worked," Sailor Jupiter spoke up.

The moon heroine threw her hands up in exasperation, "I was literally being tied up don't you think maybe the plan failed?!"

"Told you guys," Sailor Venus muttered.

Lisa suddenly jumped in the middle of them, "hey! I heard a rumor that the sailor scouts are on the verge of splitting up, is that true?!"

Sailor Moon smiled sheepishly, "uh...no comment."

Quick author's note:
