Chapter 30: Ice Princess
Tyson and Christine Melodota belong to sunsetpixels
"Look at those skaters they're amazing," Ruby said as she and Yang watched a skating competition that was being broadcast on tv.
Yang nodded in agreement, "I can see why they won a gold medal."
Her younger sister stood up, "I wish I could do that." She stood in a right arabesque and tried to spin around. But all she managed to do was fall backward onto her behind.
"You know it's funny you girls are watching skating," Zwei said from where he was laying on the floor.
"Why's that?" Yang asked.
"Well back on the moon, skating was a favorite hobby amongst all the people there. And you, Princess Ruby, were one of the best."
Ruby's eyes lit up, "really?!"
She turned to her big sister, "well then in that case let's go to the skating rink with the girls. I wanna see if I still have my old skills."

In the negaverse, Roman was also watching the skating duo via Salem's seer grimm. He turned to his queen.
"Majesty, I have recently learned that skating was a popular sport back in the moon kingdom."
Queen Salem raised a brow, "and you think you can lure Sailor Moon out by using it?"
Roman bowed, "yes absolutely."
Prince Ozma scoffed, "here we go again. You're just going to go there and infect those humans with your magic so they'll do your dirty work for you. Don't you ever have other plans?"
Roman turned to him, "what's that supposed to mean?!" He snapped.
"I mean don't you ever actually stand and fight your enemies yourself?"
"It shouldn't matter how I do it as long as I get it done."
Prince Ozma rolled his eyes.
"I'll bet you I would've gotten the crystal already if it weren't for Sailor Moon's good luck!" Roman insisted.
"I don't believe in luck," Ozma said.
Roman glared at him and the prince glared right back.
"Alright boys settle down," Queen Salem said with an eye roll.
"Now Roman you better get on with your plan I hope it works."
"It will Majesty."
With that he teleported to Remnant right to the skating rink where the skaters he had been observing were practicing. They were brother and sister. Twin bear faunus named Tyson and Christine Melodota.
The siblings both looked up as Roman appeared before them.
"What's going on?" Tyson asked.
"Don't worry you just have a new boss now. From now on you work for the negaverse!" Roman said as he placed the two under his spell.
———————————————————————
"So this is the new skating rink that just opened huh?" Zwei asked.
It was a few days later and the sailor scouts had decided to do some ice skating. Zwei tagged along too and was riding in Yang's backpack.
"Yeah! And they have the Olympic skaters Tyson and Christine Melodota here to give free lessons!" Ruby said happily.
"If we're a group of five," Yang pointed out.
"Which we are," Ruby said.
Blake raised a brow, "a group of five? That's a weird rule."
"Oh whatever let's go girls!" Ruby exclaimed practically pushing her sister and her friends inside.
Once inside, the girls all rented skates and headed out toward the ice.
Zwei smiled as he watched the other people who were already out skating. "Just like the old days..."
Ruby tied her skates on and attempted to stand up, but she stumbled backward and fell onto one of the bleachers.
"Ow..."
"Hey look here come Christine and Tyson!" Someone shouted.
The girls all looked forward as the figure skating duo made their way out onto the ice.
Christine was wearing a frilly chestnut brown skaters' dress, her brown hair in pigtails, while Tyson was clad in blue skate pants and a white body shirt. Both were wearing white ice skates.
They took the ice together to perform a small routine. Everyone watched in awe as the two skated perfectly in synch.
As they performed a triple salchow they skated by the sailor scouts and Tyson caught Yang's eye and winked at her.
Yang blushed a tiny bit.
The siblings completed their routine with a triple axel before bowing to the crowd.
"Welcome to the Skater's Palace!" Christine said enthusiastically, "everyone slap on your skates and join us out here!"
Everyone cheered.
"Now don't worry if you aren't perfect after all the first step to skating is just getting on the ice," she chuckled.
"You heard her guys! Let's go!" Nora said as she cautiously edged her way onto the ice, followed by Blake and then Cinder.
Yang was about to follow when she realized Ruby wasn't behind her, "Rubes?"
Ruby was hugging the edge of the wall as she tried to walk in her ice skates. "Oh don't worry about me I'll be there in a second."
Her legs wobbled and she almost fell over.
"Wait...I just realized you've never been skating before," Yang said sighing.
"Of course I have!" Ruby said nonchalantly, "Zwei said it himself I was the best back on the moon! I'm sure it'll come back to me."
Yang raised a brow, "ok...if you're sure."
The blonde made her way out onto the ice following their friends.
Nora, Cinder, and Blake were all skating in a single file line, eyes glued to their feet to make sure they didn't fall.
Yang skated past them and smiled as she heard the music playing through the rink. She began swaying a bit before performing a figure eight.
Everyone turned to watch as she then began skating backwards.
"Hey look at Yang go she's really good!" Nora said.
Ruby had finally made her way onto the ice and watched her big sister in awe, "she's amazing."
Just then her feet gave out from under her and she fell onto her backside.
"Ow!" Ruby exclaimed, annoyed.
Yang continued her routine and transitioned into a forward spiral, her leg behind her in a perfect arabesque.
Christina and Tyson watched her and exchanged glances.
As the tempo of the music picked up Yang pulled her right leg behind her head and performed a Biellmann spin.
Her friends jaws dropped, they had no idea Yang was this amazing at figure skating.
Zwei was watching as well and he smiled, "how could I forget," he said to himself, "Princess Venus was one of the best skaters on the moon too. Just as good as Princess Ruby."
The blonde girl finished with a lutz and landed perfectly back on the ice. She curtsied and the other skaters applauded wildly.
Yang blinked her lilac eyes as if just coming out of a trance, "what the-"
Christine clapped, "well done."
Tyson gave her a side smile and Yang felt herself grow flustered.
Meanwhile, the other girls had gone to help Ruby who still wasn't able to take a step onto the ice without falling. Slowly, they brought her over to her sister.
"Yang that was so cool! I didn't know you could skate like that!" Ruby said.
Yang rubbed the back of her neck with her hand, "I didn't either. But it all felt so natural like I just knew what to do."
Blake thought for a moment, "maybe it's your memories from the moon kingdom coming back?"
"Maybe so,"
Ruby looked frustrated, "well why aren't my memories coming back?! I'm supposed to be good at this."
"Just give it time sister," Yang said.
She then went back to skating leaving her sister and friends to watch.
————————————————————————
Later, Christine was in the ice rink's security room looking at all the skaters on the monitors. She was trying to see which one could be Sailor Moon.
"No not her," she clicked on another screen, "nope." Another click, "absolutely not."
Just then the monitors all shifted from a view of the ice rink to Roman's leering face.
"Mr. Roman!" Christine said.
"Remember what I tasked you with, Sailor Moon should be the best skater in this rink." He said.
The bear faunus nodded, "Yes I know. And if she's as good as you say then she should have the same skills as my brother and I, since we are gold medalists and all. I'll be able to spot another professional."
"Even though you don't know what she looks like?"
"Of course," Christine said confidently.
Roman's image faded from the screen and Christine went back to searching. She clicked on an image of Ruby still being held up by Nora.
"Hm, Mr. Roman did say Sailor Moon was a klutz despite being graceful. But I doubt it's as bad as this girl."
She clicked the screen again and saw an image of Tyson talking to Yang.
"Tyson?!" Christine asked in shock.
———————————————————————
"You know you skated beautifully out there earlier," Tyson said to Yang.
Yang chuckled nervously.
The bear faunus extended his hand to her, "do you wanna skate with me?"
"Sure," Yang said taking his hand.
The two began skating around the perimeter of the rink together and the blonde young woman couldn't help but smile. Tyson was so nice.
But Tyson was grimacing in his head, "with incredible ice skating moves like that, this girl has to be Sailor Moon."
He paused and turned Yang to face him, "lets try something else."
He got behind her and put his hands on her hips before attempting to lift her into the air but he only managed to get her a few inches off the ice.
"Oh! I'm sorry I'm too heavy I guess..." Yang said embarrassed, "but maybe I can pick you up?"
Before the bear faunus could say anything Yang grabbed his hands and lifted him up over her head.
Everyone stared in shock and amazement.
"This girl really is incredible..." Tyson said.
Yang gently set him down and the two skated together some more.
Meanwhile Christine was watching the screen seething, "I knew you were looking for a new partner Tyson but this is ridiculous!"
She grabbed the intercom microphone and shouted into it, "attention the rink is now closed! Your lesson is over so please leave!"
Ruby sighed in relief. "Oh thank the gods.."
"That's weird. Feels like we just started," Cinder said.
"Well I guess I have to go now. Bye Tyson," Yang said and she turned to skate away. But the figure skater grabbed her arm.
"Wait. Don't go Yang. You're the best skater I've seen. Please be my new partner."
Yang was stunned, "partner?"
————————————————————————
Cinder, Blake, and Nora headed outside after returning their skates and saw Zwei sitting on a bench waiting for them.
"Hey girls!" He said, but then he looked behind them, "where are Ruby and Yang?"
"Well Yang is getting a special one on one lesson with Tyson," Cinder said, "and Ruby is..." she turned around, "well I thought she was following us."
Suddenly, the doors of the rink slammed shut in unison and large metal overhead doors closed over each of them.
"Hey what's going on?!" Nora asked.
Blake turned to her friends, "I think this is another negaverse trap. C'mon we have to get back in there."
———————————————————————
Ruby slowly poked her head around the corner of the hallway to make sure the coast was clear, "I'm not leaving here until I have my old skating skills back."
She walked down the hall but was stopped when Christine opened the door to the security room opened, smacking her right in the face.
"Ow!" Ruby exclaimed.
But Christine didn't seem to hear her as she stalked toward the rink.
"Gods that hurt..." Ruby muttered as she shakily got to her feet.
She looked in the security room to see what was so important that Christine couldn't even stop to apologize. But what she saw stunned her. It was the live feed of Yang and Tyson skating together, but next to it was a image of Sailor Moon.
"Uh oh," Ruby said.
————————————————————————
Tyson smiled as he and Yang continued to skate across the ice together, "she's such a great skater," he thought. "Too bad if she is Sailor Moon we have to destroy her..."
"Tyson!" Christine yelled as she came out onto the ice, "I can't believe you're skating with this girl! You're my skating partner!"
Her eyes began to glow red.
Yang had a bad feeling and she put her arm out in front of Tyson to stop him from going toward his sister, "Tyson stay back."
But Tyson grabbed her arm and pinned it behind her back, "Christine don't be jealous. I thought that this girl was Sailor Moon is all."
Christine cried out angrily and in a flash she turned into a humanoid monster wearing a red halter top and skirt. Her hair was pinned back by a headband adorned with spikes and the blades on her skates elongated. She also grew skate blades on her knees and elbows.
"C'mon sis this is ridiculous! You're still my skating partner," Tyson said.
But Christine didn't seem to hear him and she leaped into the air, "here's my triple axel! With a kick!"
She performed the move in midair before slamming her leg down in between Tyson and Yang, knocking both to the floor.
Yang slid across the ice and slammed her body hard into the side of the rink. The force was enough to knock her out.
"Ready to help me now?" Christine asked as she extended her hand to her brother.
Tyson took her hand and his eyes began glowing red as well. In a flash he turned into a humanoid monster with pale skin wearing a black skate shirt and matching pants. There was also now a cape hanging from his shoulders.
Ruby had made her way into the rink at this point and she saw the duo attacking her sister.
"Yang!" She shouted.
She touched her silver locket, "don't worry I'm coming! Moon prism power!"
Her locket glowed and turned her into Sailor Moon.
"Hey you two up here!" Sailor Moon shouted, causing the two monsters to look up toward the stands.
"I'm Sailor Moon the champion of justice! You better leave that girl alone! Or on behalf of the moon I'll punish you!"
She jumped over the stands onto the ice, the soles of her boots gaining ice skates in the process. But as soon as the heroine touched the ice her feet slipped out from under her and she fell onto her front.
"Are you kidding me?! I transformed and I still can't skate?!"
The monster siblings looked confused.
"I thought she was supposed to be good," Tyson said in confusion.
Christine shrugged, "it doesn't matter. Give us the imperial silver crystal."
Tyson grabbed his sister's hand and spun her in a circle around him before letting go. Christine twirled toward Sailor Moon, a blade on her elbow extended.
"Try our Death Spiral!"
Sailor Moon tried to get to her feet but couldn't stop herself from slipping. At the last minute she was pulled away by Tuxedo Mask, wearing his own pair of skates.
Christine's blade cut a deep gash into the ice.
"I missed!"
Sailor Moon looked up as Tuxedo Mask put one arm around her and led her away from the monsters.
"Tuxedo Mask! You came to my rescue!" Sailor Moon said in relief.
"Not exactly," the caped hero said.
He looked over at Yang who was still slumped against the wall, "I just hate seeing negaverse business mixed up with innocent humans."
Sailor Moon looked confused.
"So I'm gonna help you stop them. But then I'll be back for your crystal. Got it?" He asked.
Tyson and Christine skated parallel to them.
"How about a competition then?" Tyson asked, "we heard you two were pretty good back in your day."
"And what makes you think you can beat us?" Tuxedo Mask asked with a smirk.
"Oh uh I'm not actually all that good at skating anymore," Sailor Moon said sheepishly.
"Let's see if you still got it!" Christine said.
The two jumped into the air, "double spin mega kick!"
They spun in mid air before bringing their legs down toward the ice.
"Jump!" Tuxedo Mask shouted.
Before Sailor Moon had time to react the hero had grabbed her waist and tossed her into the air. But this time the moon heroine performed a perfect forward spin and landed on the ice without falling.
"Hey look I can skate again!" She said triumphantly.
She skated backward in an arabesque.
The monstrous figure skating duo began skating toward her again. Blades on both arms extended.
"Quick jump higher!" Tuxedo Mask shouted.
Sailor Moon nodded and performed a triple axel, jumping right over the villains heads and landing back on the ice.
"Nice moves," Tuxedo Mask said
Sailor Moon smiled and began skating backwards, "hey this is a lot of fun!"
"Triple spin kick!" Tyson and Christine yelled in unison as they crouched down and spun with one leg extended out toward the other two skaters.
This time Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Moon weren't able to dodge the attacks and they were knocked into the wall.
The siblings skated over to them.
"What's wrong I thought you were supposed to be good at this," Tyson said smugly.
Christine raised up one of her arms and extended the blade once more from her elbow, "I'll finish them off."
She was about to slice the two heroes to ribbons when there was a shout of "Venus crescent beams! Smash!"
A beam of energy shot across the rink and right through Christine's blades, shattering them into pieces.
"Christine!" Tyson yelled as his sister was knocked down by the force of the attack.
Sailor Moon turned her head toward where the energy had come from, "Sailor Venus!"
Sailor Venus stood in front of Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask, "are you two ok?"
Sailor Moon nodded.
Just then the doors to the rink opened and the other sailor scouts rushed inside.
They quickly made their way to their friends.
Tyson was helping Christine to her feet and as the two bear faunus stood, Roman materialized above them.
"Glad to see you scouts again," Roman said smugly.
He then noticed Tuxedo Mask standing next to Sailor Moon, "and Prince Ozma, couldn't just mind your own business could you? Well no matter."
The villain pointed up with two fingers at the ceiling and it began glowing red.
Roman pointed down and in unison the ceiling vents opened, blasting the entire rink with frigid air.
"In two minutes this place will be frozen solid. And when that happens I'll come back for the crystal. So long sailor scouts, and Prince Ozma I can't say it's been a pleasure."
With that the vanished.
Everyone dropped down to the ground as the rink grew colder and colder. Ice began to form on the walls.
Tuxedo Mask shivered as he raised his head up to look at the sailor scouts and the bear faunus siblings. A thin layer of frost was beginning to spread on all of their bodies as well as his own.
"I-I gotta stop this," he muttered.
He looked up toward the ceiling and noticed the vents still glowing red.
"Maybe if I can hit one of those..."
He shakily raised his arm and threw his cane as hard as he could toward the ceiling. The weapon imbedded itself into a vent and in a flash the spell was disabled and the cold air ceased blowing.
"It stopped!" Sailor Mars said in relief.
"Sailor Moon think you can help Christine and Tyson now?" Sailor Venus asked.
Sailor Moon nodded and summoned her crescent moon wand. She held it up before drawing a large circle of moonlight around herself, "moon healing activation!"
The circle of moonlight encased the two skaters inside and destroyed their monstrous forms, transforming them back into their normal selves.
Christine and Tyson looked dazed and confused but they appeared to be unharmed.
The moon heroine smiled and turned to Tuxedo Mask, "now for you!"
But he had already vanished.
Sailor Moon sighed sadly, "oh Oscar..."
She was beginning to lose hope that she would ever save her prince. But he had helped them so maybe there was still some good left in him after all.
