Chapter 27: Bad Hair Day
Before we begin this chapter I want to dedicate it to RavenAkuma who was so sweet and made some edits of Ruby and Blake as sailor scouts. Thank you so much Raven! Everyone please go follow her if you haven't and give a read to her original series The Forsaken Race.
"Oscar?! Oscar where are you?! I'll find you I promise!" Ruby muttered in her sleep.
Zwei sat up from his spot next to Ruby's pillow and sighed, "she's dreaming about Oscar again. She's never going to get a good night sleep at this rate."
"Take that nega-creep!" Ruby cried out as her left arm swung out and pinned Zwei onto the bed.
The corgi squirmed and tried to get free but it was no use, so it seemed that's how he would be sleeping the rest of the night.
———————————————————————
The next day was a school day and Ruby was sitting at her desk with her head in her hands. Next to her, Jenni and some other girls were talking about a newspaper article. Supposedly a new beauty salon had opened and to celebrate it was giving free makeovers for the next few days.
"Hey Ruby do you wanna go to the salon with us?" Jenni asked.
Ruby just groaned.
———————————————————————
After school, at Oniyuri temple, the other four sailor scouts and Zwei were having a meeting.
"I'm sorry Ruby's not here girls," the corgi said, "she's in the worst funk over Oscar's disappearance."
"She's even stopped eating," Yang chimed in, "I think dad just about fainted when she didn't even touch her dinner last night."
"That's terrible," Blake said, "we've got to find a way to cheer her up."
"Yeah but how? Her heart's broken it's not like she's a toy or something you can just fix with some glue," Nora said
Yang stood up, "I'm her big sister so it should be my job. I'll think of something and let you girls know what I come up with."
Her friends nodded.
———————————————————————
Later, Yang was standing at Ruby's closed door. She had been trying to psych herself up to go inside for several minutes. She loved her sister dearly but didn't want to come off as pushy.
Finally she took a breath and knocked, "hey Rubes...can I come in?"
Silence.
"Ok...I'm gonna open the door then."
She slowly pushed the door open and found Ruby hunched over her nightstand. Sitting on top was her star locket which was open and playing her and Oscar's special waltz.
"Ruby..." Yang said sadly.
The girl lifted her head up, "oh...hey Yang."
The blonde walked over and sat next to her sister on the bed, "hey I was just thinking, let's do something. Just you and me."
"Ok, like what?" Her younger sister asked.
Yang looked around the room and her eyes fell on Ruby's hairbrush. "How about you brush my hair? We used to love doing each other's hair when we were little."
Ruby actually cracked a small smile and she grabbed the brush, "ok..."
Yang sat on the floor in front of her and Ruby began to brush her long blonde hair.
"And when you're finished I'll do your hair. We can even cut it or dye it if you want. Give you a whole new look."
Ruby looked at her black and red streaked hair, "a whole new look..."
She thought back to the salon ad from this morning, "actually that's not a bad idea. Can we go to this salon that just opened?"
Yang turned around and grinned, "sure! Just grab your things and we'll go."
Ruby nodded and turned to do just that.
———————————————————————
"You asked to see me my Queen?" Roman asked as he stood before Salem's throne.
Salem indicated Oscar's obsidian coffin with a flick of her wrist, "soon Prince Ozma will have his memories erased and be completely under my control. I want you to take him to Remnant and see how he does in battle against the sailor scouts. You've already sent one of your monsters there yes?"
Roman nodded, "and this time I know how to trap Sailor Moon. I'll capture her before she can transform."
Salem raised a brow, "you sound so confident. But you don't know her civilian identity."
Roman reached into his coat for a folded handkerchief and opened it revealing a few strands of black and red hair, "during her last fight this was left behind. It's a few locks of her hair. If we can analyze it it'll point us right to her."
Queen Salem hummed, "very well. Proceed."
———————————————————————
Ruby took a deep breath as she pushed open the door to the beauty salon and walked in. Yang right behind her.
The blonde quickly pushed her little sister toward a stylist, "hey! My sister here wants a full makeover head to toe. Can you do that?"
The stylist ran her fingers through Ruby's hair, "of course we can. Right this way please."
Soon Ruby was settled into a chair with her head tipped back as the stylists washed her hair.
Yang stood behind watching in approval.
The stylist then helped Ruby sit back up, "I'll be right back I need to check on the girls getting their hair steamed."
With that she walked away leaving the two girls alone.
The other patrons of the salon were all sitting under hairdryers that were placed just above their heads. But what they didn't realize was these were actually designed to scan each girls' hair trying to find which one matched Sailor Moon's.
"This is taking forever," the stylist muttered, "when will that sailor brat show up?"
"Yang now I'm not so sure I want a haircut," Ruby said.
Her older sister picked a brush up and began brushing Ruby's damp hair.
"C'mon sis I thought you wanted a whole new you," Yang said.
"I know but-"
"Ok young lady let's get started on you," the stylist said as she walked back over.
"Oh I'm not-" Yang started to say, but the stylist cut her off.
"Even if you aren't here for a haircut you should still try our hair steamer. It'll make your hair feel much better."
Yang shrugged, "sure why not."
"Wonderful," the stylist said happily and she settled the blonde girl into a chair under the hairdryer.
Ruby's hair was finishing up being brushed by another stylist as the hairdryer began lowering toward Yang and she was scanned.
Suddenly, a shrill beeping sound came from the hairdryer.
"What the?" Yang asked confused.
"There she is! Finally we have Sailor Moon." The stylist said before grabbing her around the throat and holding a pair of scissors near her face, "transform! Now!"
The other stylists began spraying canisters of hairspray all around the salon. But they actually contained a chemical that caused any patron who breathed it in to immediately pass out.
Ruby was quick to notice this and she covered her mouth and nose before she ducked under the counter and crawled away toward the back of the salon.
"I don't....I don't know what you're talking about," Yang gasped out.
The stylist shoved her hard, "I analyzed your hair I know you're Sailor Moon."
Yang's eyes widened in realization, "when I was brushing Ruby's hair some of it must've gotten on my clothes," she thought.
"So you're gonna be stubborn huh?" The stylist sneered, "fine by me." She snapped her fingers and the other stylists came towards her. They all morphed into one large red robotic creature with blades sticking out all over its body. Its rust colored hair was also braided into two braids which stuck out horizontal from its head and hair curlers adorned its scalp. It's left arm was a giant pair of scissors while the right appeared to be a cannon of some kind.
"Crap...." Yang muttered.
Ruby peeked her head up over the counter in the back that she was hiding behind.
"If that creep wants Sailor Moon I'll give it to her," Ruby said before touching her locket, "moon prism power!" Her locket glowed and turned her into Sailor Moon.
The scissor monster held its bladed hand inches away from Yang's face, "ready to transform now girl?!"
"Hey you looking for me?!" Sailor Moon shouted.
The monster whipped around.
"You said you're looking for Sailor Moon right? Well I'm right here! I'm Sailor Moon the champion of justice! On behalf of the moon I will right wrongs and triumph over evil. And that means you!" Sailor Moon said confidently. "You let that innocent girl go!"
"Your speeches don't impress me!" The monster snapped.
The cannon arm shifted and a blow dryer came out from the end. The monster switched it on and blazing fire shot out from the end of it.
Yang watched in horror as her sister began trying to dodge the creatures attacks.
"I gotta do something..." but Yang felt too weak from having inhaled the chemical from earlier.
She was powerless to help.
Soon the monster had blow torched most of the front of the salon and was now throwing pairs of scissors at Sailor Moon.
The moon heroine saw a nearby rack of makeup and got an idea. When the monster went for her this time Sailor Moon grabbed a powder compact and hurled it at the creatures' face. The powder got into its eyes making it hard to see.
Sailor Moon held up her hand and summoned her crescent moon wand, "you're in for it now!"
She pointed the wand at the monster, "moon healing-"
But before she could finish the spell a red rose sliced across her hand causing her to drop the wand. Sailor Moon hissed in pain as the rose had cut through her glove and cut her hand.
"Wait...only one person I know attacks like that..." she thought.
Slowly she turned around and saw Tuxedo Mask sitting in one of the barber's chairs.
"Tuxedo Mask..." Sailor Moon said in relief, "you're ok! I'm so glad! I-I thought I lost you."
"Make this quick Sailor Moon," the caped hero said as he walked over, "give me the imperial silver crystal."
"Why?" Sailor Moon asked confused.
"I don't have to explain myself to you," Tuxedo Mask said, "give it to me now. Or you'll be sorry."
Sailor Moon gasped and felt tears form in her eyes, "Tuxedo Mask....Oscar....what did Salem do to you?"
Tuxedo Mask growled in annoyance and looked at the scissor monster, "don't just stand there get her!"
Sailor Moon backed up as her two adversaries began to come closer to her. She quickly turned and bolted out of the salon with the monster and Tuxedo Mask on her tail.
As they left Yang could feel the effects of the knockout chemical fading and she finally began to feel better.
"Ruby...I have to help her."
She shakily pulled out her power stick.
"Venus power!"
The power sticks glowed and turned her into Sailor Venus.
"I need to call the others and tell them what's up." Sailor Venus said as she made her way outside, quickly sending an alert through her scroll on the way.
———————————————————————
Meanwhile, the monster had chased Sailor Moon to a street corner and was attempting to use a giant electric razor from its cannon arm to cut her down. But with every swipe the moon heroine was able to dodge out of the way. She was completely off her game though, especially with Tuxedo Mask right behind her commanding the monster to continue its assault.
"You're gonna run out of room," Tuxedo Mask said, "just hand over the crystal and this can be over."
Sailor Moon held her crescent moon wand close to her chest, "no way."
Tuxedo Mask sighed in annoyance, "fine." He looked at the scissor monster, "destroy her."
"No way are we letting that happen!" A new voice shouted.
Sailor Moon turned and saw the other sailor scouts and Zwei standing there.
"Girls you're here!" She said in relief.
Sailor Mars and Sailor Jupiter stepped forward.
Sailor Mars clasped her hands together with her pointer fingers facing upward, "Mars fire ignite!"
Sailor Jupiter crossed her arms over her chest and extended her pinkies and pointer fingers upward as electricity crackled around her, "Jupiter thunder crash!"
Flames burst from Mars' fingertips and combined with Jupiter's lightning to destroy the scissor monster's cannon arm.
Sailor Mercury then stepped up, "Mercury bubbles blast!" She shouted.
Purple bubbles appeared around her and the heroine sent them towards the monster. When the bubbles popped they trapped it in a black shadowy fog blocking its vision.
"Sailor Moon your wand! Now!" Sailor Venus shouted.
Sailor Moon nodded and held the crescent moon wand before drawing a large circle of moonlight around herself, "moon healing activation!"
The circle of moonlight encased the scissor monster inside and destroyed it, transforming the group of hairdressers back into their normal selves.
The women all passed out and landed in a heap. Sailor Venus and Sailor Mercury quickly went over to check on them.
Meanwhile Sailor Jupiter cautiously approached Tuxedo Mask, "are you ok Tuxedo Mask? Why were you aiding that monster?"
"Stay away from him Jupiter," Sailor Venus said, "it's like I told you girls on the way here. He's been brainwashed by the negaverse. Right now he's no friend of ours."
Sailor Moon looked at the ground sadly.
"Enough with this talk about brainwashing. I don't need that creature to take the crystal I can do it myself. Any of you girls wanna try and stop me?" Tuxedo Mask asked as he brandished his cane. But just as he was about to attack he heard a voice in his head.
"Tuxedo Mask. Return back to me. Now!" Queen Salem snapped.
Tuxedo Mask groaned, "fine. You got lucky this time sailor scouts but next time I won't be leaving without that crystal."
With that he turned and walked into a dark portal Salem had summoned.
Sailor Moon tried to go after him but Sailor Venus held her back, "you can't go after him Sis."
"But Yang I can't just let him go!"
Sailor Venus hugged her little sister, "I know but right now it's too dangerous."
Sailor Moon burrowed her face into her chest and felt a few tears run down her face.
———————————————————————
"Great Malum," Prince Ozma said as he kneeled before the dark creature's pit, "why did you send me to fight as Tuxedo Mask? I feel stronger like this, as Prince Ozma."
The pit gurgled and bubbled, "it's because the sailor scouts like and trust Tuxedo Mask. It throws them off to see you as their enemy."
Prince Ozma sighed in defeat.
————————————————————————
The next day the girls were back in the salon. Only this time it wasn't Ruby getting a makeover but a certain cat girl.
"And finished," the stylist said, "what do you think?"
Blake looked in the mirror and admired her new hair style. She had gotten it cut to a short bob and added some subtle purple highlights.
"I love it. What do you girls think?"
"It looks great!" Nora said
"Really suits you," Ruby said.
"Gonna take me some time to get used to it," Yang teased.
Blake rolled her eyes but smiled nonetheless.
"Hey guys now that we're done can we go get something to eat?! I'm starving!" Ruby said.
Cinder chuckled, "glad to see you're back to your old self Ruby."
Ruby nodded, "it's all thanks to you girls for cheering me up. I realized I'm going about this the wrong way. I have healing magic so I can just heal Oscar's memory. Simple."
"That's a really powerful spell he's under," Nora pointed out, "do you even think your magic is strong enough?"
Ruby shrugged, "I don't know. But I'll figure it out after I have a full stomach! C'mon everyone!"
With that she took off down the street.
Zwei sighed, "yes I suppose she is back to her old self now. Oh well I'll take this Ruby any day."
