Chapter 18: Mind Games
"You two both know that we need all seven rainbow crystals to find the imperial silver crystal," Queen Salem told Neo and Roman, "so the fact that you lost one of them disappoints me Neo."
"I assure you majesty that I will get the crystal back from Tuxedo Mask," Neo said
Salem sat back on her throne, "you better."
"My queen we've already prepared a plan to apprehend Tuxedo Mask. Since he went after one crystal he'll probably come back for the other five. When he comes looking for them we'll be sure to apprehend him and retrieve the crystal he took." Roman said
The dark queen raised a brow, "you sound so confident Roman. But you should know this is the only failure I will accept. The other five crystals must be ours."
Her two soldiers nodded.

"Let's see what I got," Ruby said running her finger down the paper which had all the student's grades from the most recent math test.
"At the bottom again!" She exclaimed loudly.
"Too bad sis," Yang said ruffling her hair.
"Oh yeah well you didn't do much better then me Yang!"
"Hey Blake got the second highest score," Nora pointed out.
Yang looked up at the board, "yeah you're right. But who's that guy who got a perfect score?"
"It says his name is Sun Wukong. I think he's in one of Blake's advanced math classes or something."
"What are you guys talking about?" Blake asked walking over.
"We're talking about our grades for the most recent test. You got the second highest score," Ruby said.
Blake looked up at the bulletin board, "oh and look at that Sun got the highest score. Good for him."
"So you do know him?" Nora asked.
Blake nodded, "yeah he just moved her a few weeks ago. He's really nice I think you guys would like him."
Suddenly her eyes lit up, "there he is over there." She waved to a blonde boy with a monkey tail.
The boy waved back before walking down the hallway and Ruby couldn't help but notice the subtle blushing on his face.
Sun made his way outside and leaned against the school building's wall. He then reached into his pocket and pulled out a scrap of newspaper. A small smile graced his face as he looked at the tiny picture of Blake that was at the very top of the article.
"I knew it! You have a crush on Blake!" Ruby shouted.
Sun whipped around to see the redheaded girl only inches from his face, "when did you get here?!"
But Ruby ignored him and grabbed the newspaper clipping from his hand.
"Hey this is the article the newspaper wrote on Blake after she got the highest score on the exams last semester. And you carry it around with you? That's so cute!"
Sun grabbed the newspaper clipping back, "stop it. I just keep this around as motivation to do better."
He looked around the corner of the school to see Blake and Nora along with two other girls playing volleyball.
"So yeah I like her, a lot actually but it doesn't really matter. She's way too smart for me all I did was guess lucky to pass that exam while Blake could probably pass any test with her eyes closed."
Ruby tapped her chin in thought, "ok so you wanna impress Blake then huh? Well just leave it to me Sun!"
With that she ran off but suddenly Sun felt his head begin to throb with a headache.
"Wait Ruby don't stand right there!"
"What? Why?" Ruby asked.
Above her a man who was repairing the air conditioning accidentally nudged a bucket off the ledge causing it to dump water all over Ruby.
"Um....never mind," Sun said sheepishly.
Ruby gave him a look and angrily walked back inside the school building.
Later, after school, Ruby called Sun and told him to meet her at a restaurant. Once he got there she handed him an envelope.
"Here. For you,"
Sun opened it and found a photo of Blake stuffing her face with a tuna sandwich inside the envelope.
"I get to keep this?" Sun asked in disbelief.
Ruby nodded, "if you ask me it's a much cuter picture then that tiny news article. But seriously if you wanna get to know Blake better then you should. There's a lot more to her then just her smarts, she's also really funny when she wants to be-"
As the two were talking Ruby's backpack began pulsing with a red light. Something that didn't go unnoticed by Zwei, who had followed his owner out on her little trip.
"That's the alarm for the rainbow crystals. Does this mean Sun is a holder?" Zwei thought to himself.
Sun ran his thumb over the photo and blushed.
"Ok now it's time for phase two of my plan. You have to ask Blake out," Ruby said
Sun looked up at her, "what?! I can't do that! What if she rejects me?!"
The redhead sighed. "Fine. I'll go get Blake from her afternoon class and you can meet us at the arcade ok?"
"I-"
"Alright bye Sun!" Ruby shouted happily before racing out of the diner.
Sun looked down at the picture in his hand and grimaced.
——————————————————————
Meanwhile Neo was watching the entire scene unfold in the surface of her dark crystal.
"So this is one of the rainbow crystal carriers hm? Well I'll just have to take care of that won't I?"
——————————————————————
"Ruby what was that all about?" Zwei asked.
Ruby sighed, "I don't know ok? I panicked! I really want Blake and Sun to get together."
"But that's not your choice. Anyway it doesn't matter now. When Blake gets here you two need to be on guard when you see Sun, he was making the crescent moon wand react," the corgi said.
Ruby pulled the wand from her backpack. "He was? Really?"
Zwei nodded and then looked up to see the door to the computer class opening.
"Ruby? What are you doing here?" Blake asked.
"Hey Blake! I've got a surprise for you!" Her friend said before grabbing the dark haired girl by the arm and dragging her down the street.
——————————————————————
Meanwhile Sun was making his way to the arcade when he felt his head begin to pulse with a headache once more.
"Hello there," a voice spoke into his mind.
The monkey faunus looked up to see Neo perched on a roof awning right above him.
"Neopolitan," Sun growled.
The negaverse general looked surprised and she levitated down to the ground.
"Impossible! How could you possibly know who I am?!"
Sun took a step back, "I've been able to see visions of the future ever since I was a child. And as I've grown they've gotten stronger. I know who you are and all about the negaverse. And I know what you're here to do to me."
Neo actually seemed amused at that and a small smirk graced her features. "Well if you know then make this easy and give up the rainbow crystal to me willingly."
Sun took another step back, "I said I know what you're gonna do to me. Not that I accept it!"
Neo's smirk vanished, "ignorant pest." She raised her hand and telekinetically levitated Sun off the ground. Then with a flick of her wrist she dropped him straight back down. Hard.
The young man struggled to get up and Neo summoned her dark crystal.
"Now come to me rainbow crystal."
Sun felt a tightening sensation in his chest. The area around his heart pulsed with light as a yellow crystal tried to force its way out.
As this was happening Blake and Ruby were rounding the street corner.
"C'mon Blake this way!" Ruby shouted.
But before she could pull her friend any further the dark haired girl stopped in her tracks.
"Wait Ruby look over there! It's Neo...and Sun?! What's she doing to him?!" Blake asked in alarm.
"He's one of the rainbow crystal holders. Now quick you two! Transform and get over there!" Zwei told them.
The two nodded and Ruby touched her locket while Blake held up her power stick.
"Moon prism power!"
"Mercury power!"
The two magic items glowed and turned them into Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury.
The two heroines rushed over and pushed Sun out of the way of Neo's spell.
"Hold it right there Neo! We aren't going to let you get that rainbow crystal from Sun!" Sailor Moon said, "hey Sailor Mercury make sure he's ok."
Sailor Mercury nodded and helped her friend up before taking him down the street.
Sailor Moon raised her fist as if she was about to punch Neo but before her fist could make contact the villainess shattered into glass shards.
"You better get to Sailor Mercury quick, before Neo comes back," Zwei said, "don't forget since Sun is carrying a crystal he'll make the alarm in your wand react. You can use it to find him.
The heroine nodded and raced off to do just that.
——————————————————————
Meanwhile Sailor Mercury had taken Sun to the park and Sun was laid out on a bench while the heroine was kneeling by his side.
"Hey don't worry Sun. You'll be just fine."
Sun grimaced as sweat poured down his brow but he still managed a smile, "thanks...Blake."
Sailor Mercury gasped, "what? How can he know who I am?" She thought.
But her friend had passed out. He was in the middle of another vision. He saw himself as a monster with blades for hands attacking Sailor Mercury.
Sailor Mercury had gently squeezed his hand to console him when something caught her eye. She reached into his shirt pocket and pulled out the photo Ruby had given him earlier.
"Where did he get this?" She wondered aloud.
Sun suddenly snapped awake, "the future... horrible...horrible future."
Sailor Mercury helped him sit up, "hey it's ok. It was just a bad dream."
"No it's not." Sun said sadly, "I can predict the future, that's how I know who you are Blake. And I want to tell you know how much I care about you, before I'm forced to fight you."
The heroine stiffened, "I don't know who you think I am but I'm certainly not whoever this Blake girl is."
Sun sighed and his monkey tail drooped, "fine. Don't believe me, but please promise me this. When Neo comes back for me and I become a monster you have to promise to destroy me!"
Sailor Mercury's eyes widened, "what?! No I can't do that!"
"Please promise me! I don't want to hurt you or anyone else!"
His friend stood up quickly, "Sun this is crazy! So what if you can predict the future?! That doesn't mean it's set in stone! You have the power to change it! Don't give up so easily."
Sun looked up at her and a small smile graced his face, "yeah...you're right. Thank you Blake, I mean Sailor Mercury."
"Aw would you look at that? You two are so sweet. But unfortunately I need that boy's crystal," Neo said appearing behind them.
Sailor Mercury stood in front of Sun, "Get out of here Neo! Now!"
Neo's chilling laugh echoed into their minds, "trust me sailor girl you won't want to protect him after you see what he's really like. Now dark crystal bring the rainbow crystal to me!"
She held her black crystal up and it slowly pulled the yellow rainbow crystal from Sun's heart.
The villainess smirked as the yellow crystal floated into her palm.
Sun dropped to the ground and began crying out in pain as he slowly transformed into an ape like creature wearing knight's armor. Where his arms would be were two long knives.
"Sun you have to fight it!" Sailor Mercury yelled.
Sun didn't seem to hear her though and raised one of his arms to stab her.
"Fight it! You can do it!"
Sun brought his arm down but instead of stabbing his friend he stabbed the ground and using the leverage he vaulted over Sailor Mercury and tackled Neo, knocking the yellow crystal from her hand in the process.
Sailor Mercury ran to pick it up.
"Let go of me!" Neo shouted, "you serve me fool!"
She finally wrestled free and held up the dark crystal again intending to hypnotize the young man further, "listen to me Sun! The sailor scouts are your enemies! You must destroy them!"
Sun shakily got to his feet and turned back to look at Sailor Mercury before chasing after her thankfully though, before he could attack her Sailor Moon ran over and held out her crescent moon wand threateningly.
"Hey Neo since when do you use teenagers to carry out your bidding. Running out of ideas?"
Neo scoffed, "you wish, look how well my servant is handling your little friend."
"Sailor Moon!" Sailor Mercury yelled, "you gotta turn Sun back to normal! Quick!"
"You got it!" Sailor Moon replied.
Sailor Moon held the wand up before drawing a large circle of moonlight around herself, "moon healing activation!"
The circle of moonlight encased the shadow warrior inside it, but it seemed to have no effect as Sun just shook the effect off and resumed chasing them.
"Why didn't it work?!" Sailor Mercury asked as they continued running
"I don't know! Zwei?!" Sailor Moon asked the corgi who was running at their side.
"I think he's just too powerful for you right now! You are still learning how to use that wand after all. But I think if we wear him down it should work." Zwei answered.
Sun began chopping trees down with his arms as he desperately tried to get at the girls.
Sailor Mercury remembered what Sun said earlier about destroying him but she shook the thought out of her head, "no we can help him. I know we can."
They both began backing up slowly as Sun began closing in on them.
Suddenly there were shouts of "Mars fire ignite! Jupiter thunder crash!" followed by a column of fire destroying Sun's left arm and a bolt of lighting destroying his right arm.
Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury looked up to see Sailors Mars and Jupiter standing in front of them.
"Sorry we're late," Sailor Mars apologized.
"Don't worry. We just need to finish weakening him," Sailor Mercury said.
"Mercury bubbles blast!" She shouted.
Purple bubbles appeared around her and the heroine sent them towards Sun. When the bubbles popped they trapped him in a black shadowy fog.
The scouts then began moving through the fog yelling and shouting to get Sun's attention. This disoriented the monster and he began grabbing at the air more often then not hitting himself or walking into something in the process.
Finally he stumbled forward and fell to his knees just as the fog cleared.
"Ok try it now Sailor Moon!" Zwei told her.
Sailor Moon once again held the wand up before drawing a large circle of moonlight around herself, "moon healing activation!"
The circle of moonlight encased the shadow warrior inside it, this time destroying the monster but also returning Sun to his normal self.
"Sun!" Sailor Mercury shouted happily before running over and hugging her friend, "you're ok!"
Sun smiled at her, "yeah. Thanks to you guys."
Neo seethed watching the happy reunion as she teleported away.
Sailor Moon then noticed a lump in the water heroine's pocket, "hey Mercury what's that?"
Sailor Mercury reached into her skirt pocket, "oh I got the third rainbow crystal!"
"Alright!" Sailor Jupiter shouted triumphantly, "that means between this one and the one Tuxedo Mask has we have two crystals while the negaverse only has one!"
"Right but that means we still need to get the crystal back from them along with the other four." Zwei reminded them.
"Understood." The scouts said in unison.

A couple days later Ruby, Blake, and Yang were at the train station saying goodbye to Sun. His parents' jobs had recently required them to move to a new city so sadly the monkey faunus was leaving.
"Goodbye Sun," Blake said giving him a big hug, "I'll see you soon."
"Yeah, goodbye Blake and thanks again, for everything," Sun replied hugging her back.
"Oh by the way. Can I have the picture back? The one where I'm stuffing my face?" Blake asked.
"Oh um sure...sorry about that."
The cat girl took the photo from him before handing him a new one from her wallet, "here this one is a lot better, I'm not shoveling tuna in my face."
Sun smiled looking at the picture before climbing onto the train.
The three girls waved goodbye as the train pulled out of the station.
"I can't wait until I see him again," Blake said inside her head.
