Chapter 17: Group Coastal

"It's our time to make a move
It's our time to make amends
It's our time to break the rules
Let's begin
And I say
Hey, hey-hey-hey
Livin' like we're renegades"

Clara smiled softly as she walked up to the two girls from Group B, giving them a wave as well. "I didn't properly introduce myself. I'm Clara." Clara introduced herself. It felt like meeting a greenie all over again. They seemed to be on high alert and asking questions, the only difference was. They were girls.

"I'm Sonya. This is Harriet." The blonde one introduced herself and her friend.

"Thanks for what you did back there." Harriet gave her a smile and Clara nodded.

"No problem. Part of the job...I guess. But I get it." Clara let out a small chuckle before continuing. "I was in Group A.  Was there for almost three years."

"There are other groups?"  Harriet asked completely surprised and Clara nodded before she shifted her eyes to Sonya.

"It's so weird.  You look familiar but I can't put my finger on it."  Clara tilted her head to the side slightly.

"Maybe we knew each other before our minds got wiped."  Sonya shrugged.

"Maybe...anyways.  My two friends and I always have a campfire going on around this time.  Want to join?"  Clara asked and the two other girls nodded before following Clara up a hill.

"Ow!  Stop."  Aaron rubbed his arm after Carter flicked a card at him.

"Carter."  Clara laughed and he smiled widely at her before flicking a card her way where she easily caught it. She then took a seat next to him on a rock as they talked with one another.

"I can't believe you all were somehow in a maze.  It's crazy."  Aaron shook his head slightly as he played with the necklace around him.

"I can't believe you didn't get caught."  Harriet said with shock.

"That credit goes to my old man.  He said hell no.  Fuck you and got me away from them as fast as he could."  Aaron smirked and Sonya laughed at how he explained it before he showed the newbies his necklace.

"This was the last thing he gave to me before he died."  It was a white gold chain with a white gold thick circle.  Carved on the front bottom was 1987.

"Your dad seemed like a badass."  Harriet smiled and Aaron nodded.  "He sure was.  WCKD killed him.  So, I want to kill them now."  Aaron hissed.

"Alright, let's stop talking about killing and WCKD.  Now..." Clara flicked the cards out in her hand like a fan. "Who wants to see a magic trick?" She asked and Aaron's hand immediately went up in the air.

It was almost midnight. Harriet and Sonya went to bed while Aaron, Carter and Clara were still at their fire. The fire was almost out but they didn't mind. They were always the last ones up at the campfire. They found peace with it and each other's company. Especially Clara, campfires were just different to her.

"You know. I like to think that my two brothers are still out there somewhere. Something in me believes that they didn't get caught by WCKD or are immune." Aaron said as he laid on the sand, his arm under his head as he looked up at the stars.

"But then there's that part of me that believe they're stuck in a maze or walking around as a crank...and I really hope that they are just dead if it's between one of those." Aaron clicked his tongue. "No offense on the whole...maze thing."

"None taken." Carter smiled slightly as he stabbed his knife in the sand dune next to him before grabbing it and doing the same thing again.

"What about your mom?"  Carter asked.

"Oh, she's definitely dead.  No way she would be surviving this."  Aaron immediately answered and there was an uncomfortable silence before Aaron started to laugh.  Then all three of them were laughing.

"Yeah, but I'm serious.  She's a goner."  Aaron said and laughed again as he continued to look up at the stars, a shooting star going right pass him.

"Group Coastal.  We're something, huh?"  Aaron asked and Clara smiled.

"We sure are Ron...we sure are."

~~~
A whistle went off from behind Clara and she immediately turned around to see Carter walking towards her with his signature smile. He moved the gun that was around his shoulder to the side as she raised an eyebrow.
"May I help you?" Clara questioned.
"Uh. Always." Carter grinned.
"Group Coastal is heading out once again. Leave the cliff looking to the grown ups." Carter waved them off.
"You're so weird." She grinned, shaking her head before walking past him. She only walked about four feet before Carter scooped her up in his arms.
"I swear." Clara gripped onto him tightly as he started to run with her. "If you let go of me I'll kill you." Clara warned.
"You couldn't kill me if you tried Clara." He laughed and dropped her off in the passenger seat of the jeep. Aaron had a disturbed look on his face as he looked to Clara then back to Carter.
"What? You gonna go?" Carter asked as he looked at Aaron's disturbed face.
"That was the strangest thing I have ever seen." Aaron turned back around, shaking his head slightly as he started the car.
"You haven't seen weird my friend." Carter leaned forward, his hands griping the sides of the front seats but was quickly thrown back when Aaron slammed on the gas.
2 Hours Later
Bullets flew from Group Coastal's guns as they shot the group of cranks in front of them.  One by one they fell dead to scorch floor.  Aaron grabbed a grenade he was keeping and ripped the pin off with his teeth before throwing it at the group of cranks.
"Grenade!"  He shouted back to his group  as the grenade soon went off, killing the rest.
"Why didn't I get a grenade?"  Carter asked as they were heading back to the jeep.
"Because you don't know how to use it.  If I give you one, you'll kill us all."  Aaron told him seriously and Clara grinned at Carter's sad face.
The three suddenly stopped when they heard some engine noise in the distance.  Aaron looked around with his eyebrows furrowed before he jogged over to the jeep.  He reached over and grabbed the radio, pulling it as far as it could go before he spoke into it.
"Silica, is that one of ours, over?" Aaron asked and took his thumb off the button, waiting for a reply but nothing happened.
"Group Silica come in, this is Group Coastal, over." Aaron did it again, this time when he didn't get a reply he started to get worried. Carter and Clara shared a look before they looked back at Aaron.
"Silica, do you copy? This is Coastal, over!" Aaron shook his head as he mumbled to himself. "Somethings wrong."
A static noise went off, something on another radio station and Aaron started to turn the nob. "What the hell are they doing on this channel?" Aaron asked before he got to the new channel.
Mayday Mayday Mayday! Silica is down, WCKD got to the radio station. They know where you're at! Get out of there now Coastal! I repeat! GET OUT OF THERE NOW!
"Oh, shit."  Carter said once he saw two WCKD vehicles go over a sand dune and down their way.
"Time to go."  Aaron muttered and threw the radio, not bother putting it back in the holder as he jumped in his seat, turning on the car.
"Get ready to shoot if needed."  Aaron instructed and started to speed off.
"We're not going to be able to out run them!"  Clara shouted to Aaron who gripped the steering wheel so tight his knuckles started to turn white.
"Hang on."  He warned them and made a sharp turn and started to go into a different direction, towards an abandoned building that they knew all to well.
Clara smirked as she was ready to jump out of the car.  They had a map of this building inside their heads.  These guards did not stand a chance.  Once the car came to an abrupt stop they immediately ran in.
"Split up." Aaron told the two in a low voice before he slammed the door shut and sprinted down the stairs to the basement. He ran over to the power box, shutting it off. The whole building going dark.
"Going in."  One of the guards said as they slowly made their way in before making a motion with his hand as they started to go in different directions.
One guard was walking down a hall when Aaron silently made his way back up. He saw the guard and went over to him and stabbed him in the chest before ripping the man's mask off.
Another guard walked into a room and looked around before Carter whistled.  The guard immediately turned around, looking up as Carter held himself up in the corner of the wall.  Jumping down, he cocked the gun and immediately shot the man.  Another man walked in and swung his weapon at Carter, sending him to the ground.
He walked over to Carter and held him down as he scanned the back of his neck.  The reading came back with his profile such as D-8. Clara ran in and grabbed onto the doorframe before kicking the man.
She then grabbed the pistol from her belt, pointing it at the guard with dark eyes. She didn't hesitate when she pulled the trigger. "Hope you didn't get too cocky." Clara cocked her head to the side as she held her hand out for Carter.
"Of course not. Should've seen what I did. It was awesome." Carter smiled widely and grabbed her hand as he was pulled up to his feet.
A few grunts went off in a few rooms over before another shot rang off. A pair of footsteps made their way over and Aaron stood in the doorframe. "I think we're good." Aaron told them.
"Good. Let's get the hell out of here." Clara said.
"I could kiss you for saving me you know."  Carter smiled widely to Clara who raised an eyebrow.
"Do not kiss me."  She told him.
"I won't kiss you."  He shook his head as he got a bit closer to her, doing some weird moves before quickly kissing her on her right cheek and running past Aaron and out the door.
"DID IT ANYWAY!"
