Chapter 14: Cranks Aren't The Only Thing Out There

"Just come home, don't let go
If you look into the distance, there's a house upon the hill
Guiding like a lighthouse to a place where you'll be
Safe to feel our grace 'cause we've all made mistakes
If you've lost your way
I will leave the light on"

4 Days Later

"Go!  Go!  Go!"  Carter shouted as him and Clara rounded a corner in a building and started to run through a hall.  The screams of cranks following behind them.

"Where's the exit?!"  Clara screamed.

"Who knows.  Just keep running."  Carter told her as he turned around for a split second and aimed his gun at one of the cranks, shooting right at the head before he continued.

Clara took a sharp turn then skidded to a stop.  "Shit."  Her eyes widened as their pathway was blocked by more cranks who turned their heads to them and screeched.

"We're trapped!"  Carter shouted as he pointed his gun with one hand and held a knife tightly in the other.  Clara held two knives tightly in her hands as she looked around before looking up, the ceiling was torn apart.

"Up you go." Carter said as he dropped his weapons and pushed Clara up while the cranks got closer. Clara quickly turned around and moved her head to the side just in time as a knife was flown her way.

"Sorry!" Carter said before Clara grabbed onto his hand and arm, pulling him up right as a crank tried to clamp its teeth on them.

"Shit."  Carter breathed out as he got up along with Clara.  "We need to keep going."  He said as the two started to run again, the cranks once again making their way up.

The two ran up stairway after stairway until they got to the rooftop.  They slammed the door shut behind them and put boxes in front to try and hold them off for awhile longer.

"Now we're trapped."  Clara breathed out as she ran over to the edge of the building and looked down. "We have to jump." She told him.

"What?!" Carter exclaimed.

"It's the only way." She told him and Carter stood by her side as he looked down.

"How? We'll die on impact." Carter then looked around before he found a rope. "Jump my ass."

"Hey! I would rather die from the ground then the cranks." Clara huffed.

"Well, I have some news for you." Carter tied one end of the rope to a rock on the wall and yanked it, to make sure it was secured. "We're not dying today." The cranks started to pound on the door, the two whipped their heads to it as they saw the arms clawing out.

"Time to go." Carter rushed down the rope, Clara right behind him. The cranks bursted through the door as they ran around the rooftop before one went jumping off.

The two clung to the rope tightly and continued to make their way down. That was until the rope started to break. The two didn't know until they felt an abrupt movement.

"Faster!" Carter told her and hurried down. Carter was closer to the ground while Clara was about two stories up still. They didn't get that far until the rope completely snapped and the two plummeted to the ground.

Carter groaned as his fall wasn't as bad as Clara's. Carter sat up and dusted the sand off of him before turning to Clara who just laid on the ground. Clara gasped as she felt the wind knocked out of her.

"Hey, hey." Carter stumbled to her as he looked to her left leg that had a piece of metal sticking out of it.

"Shuck."  Clara hissed as she tried to sit up but groaned in pain, clutching her leg slightly with a shaky hand.  Not only did she have a piece of metal sticking out of her but her back was hurting from the fall, it's a miracle she didn't break it.

"You're fine."  Carter reassured her as he looked at the piece sticking out of her leg while blood trickled out, not knowing exactly what to do.

"Give me some gauze and water."  She told him as she touched the metal and hissed again.  "I don't know how deep it is.  If I pull it out I'll either die from blood loss or it'll be fine."  She told him as she looked at it.  "But we can easily cauterize it."  Her years of being a Medjack seemed to pay off.

"Ok.  Hold on."  Carter nodded as he opened up his bag and took a few things out, a water bottle, gauze, and a lighter.  "Ready?"  He asked and she nodded as he was about to pull it.

"Stop!"  She shouted before he even touched it.
"I didn't even feel it."  She mumbled as she looked at the other side of her leg, the metal was all the way through her.

"You must of fell on it when the rope snapped.  The shock must of-I don't know."  Carter rubbed the sweat from his forehead, having no knowledge of any medical work.

The cranks screeches filled their ears as they saw a group running after them.  "Not again."  Carter groaned as he grabbed his gun and shot once, then again but this time his gun was empty.  They were screwed.  They already used all of their bullets.

They only had knives left but it's impossible to fight them with the amount of cranks coming their way.  Clara let out a deep breath as she looked up to Carter.

"Carter go."  She told him.

"What?  I'm not leaving you."  He shook his head.

"I can't move fast.  I'm not going to let you go down with me."  She gave him a serious look.

"You're crazy."  He scoffed.

"You're crazy for staying!  Go."  She bit her lip as she shoved his leg and he looked down at her sadly.

"Go."  She choked up a bit before pushing his leg harder.  "Go!"  She shouted at him.

"There's no point of me going without you.  I'll have no one left."  He let out a short laugh as he shook his head.

The two were too busy yelling at each other that they didn't even notice a jeep driving their way.  They only noticed when they heard bullet after bullet going off, sending all the cranks dead on the ground.

"WCKD?"  Clara asked as she looked at the stopped vehicle to Carter.

"No, that's not there's."  He shook his head.

The jeep just sat there until a boy around their age came out, he wore a bandana around his face, a gun in his hand facing down as he looked between the two before clicking his tongue.

"What in the hell are you two doing out here?"  His asked, pulling down his bandana as he looked at the two.

The two didn't answer as he walked closer to the two.  "From WCKD?"  He asked and the two shared a look, not knowing if they should ask.   "You are."  He did a confirming nod with a smile.

"Don't worry I'm a good guy."  He gave them a smile before looking down at Clara's leg.  "That doesn't look good.  Let's get you in the car and I can take you back to my camp."  He said before going back over to his jeep to set the rifle down.

"Can we trust him?"  Clara looked up to Carter.

"We have too.  We need to fix that leg of yours."  Carter sighed as Clara took in his words.

Fix that leg of yours

All she could think of was Newt.  That thought quickly vanished from her thoughts as she clenched her jaw.  No, she hated Newt.  She hated Minho.  She hated all of them.

"Yeah.  I'm bringing in two so I'm going to be heading back early.  Got an injury.  So be ready.  Over."  He spoke in the radio that was connected in the jeep.

Copy that.  Over

Another males voice rang through the other end and he put the radio pack in its holder before hoping out.  "Let's get you in."  He told Clara.

"How exactly are we supposed to do that? We can't just rip her off the metal, it's completely through her." Carter told the boy seriously.

"We're going to have too. It's the only way. We can't move the metal with her." He looked at him.

"I'll bleed out." Clara gave the mystery guy a look and he looked down at her, smiling.

"You clearly have not seen my driving." He walked closer to her. "Trust me. I'll get you there in time." He told her.

"Trust is a lot to ask in my book." Clara said seriously and Aaron just stared at her.

"I'll keep that in mind. Come on." The boy told Carter. "On the count of three, pull." He directed.

Clara took in deep breaths as she gripped each of their shoulders tightly. "After we get her out. Get her to Blu as fast as possible." The boy told Carter.

"Blu?" Carter raised an eyebrow.

"The jeep. Keep pressure on her wound. Got it? Alright. 1...2...3!"

The two harshly pulled Clara. A disgusted noise filled their ears along with Clara screaming out in pain. Blood spilled from her leg. Clara breathed out heavily while the new guy and Carter put an arm around each of their shoulders, getting her to the jeep.

"You're alright." Carter sat in the back with her as he moved some of her hair away from her face and put pressure on the back of her leg while Clara pressed some cloth to the front.

"Let's get going.  After you're all healed you two should consider staying."  He told them.  "I didn't even get your names?"  He laughed and looked to them from the revere mirror.

"I'm Clara...that's Carter."  She told him and he chucked.

"Double C."  He commented as he drove, the scorch air blowing through their hair at how fast he was going.

"Well, what's your name?"  Carter asked.

"I'm Aaron.  But, you can call me Ron."  He introduced himself.  "I'm taking you guys somewhere safe, my group is working together to put a stop to WCKD.  We have a secret location, WCKD has been trying to find us for quite some time but failed."  He chuckled once again.

"Your group?  Who are they?"  Clara asked and Aaron turned his head towards her with a smile on his face.

"We call ourselves The Right Arm."

**Yes!  I love Aaron, I hope you'll love him too. Let me know what you think of this fanfic so far**
