Chapter 1: Six Months In

"I want to see it all at the end with my convictions
For now I'll contemplate what it is to grow in vision
I want to feel alive, I want to feel alive"

"Clara dear!" Minho's voice made its way to her ears as she stood in front of a table, organizing some supplies in the Medjacks.

She turned her head and saw Minho walk in, she gave him a small smile.

"I scraped my arm pretty bad." Minho lifted up his arm where it was covered in a decent amount of blood.

Clara rolled her eyes and snapped her fingers, pointing to a bed, telling him to sit down before she grabbed a liquid substance and some gauze.

Minho sat down and she walked over to him, putting some liquid on a piece of cloth as she looked at him.

"What did you do this time?" Was the first thing she said.

"I was racing George and Nick back then tripped over some ivy and-OW!" Minho screeched once she pressed the cloth to his wound.

A small smile played on her lips before she started to wrap his arm up. She didn't talk much. She kept things short with everyone. They all knew that. From her first day of arriving she barley said anything, didn't talk unless she felt it was necessary. No one doesn't really know why. Not even her. Maybe it's too soon to tell.

"Well, I'll get out of your hair. See you at dinner." Minho nodded before standing back up and making his way out.

"Bye." She gave him a small wave and turned back to what she was doing earlier. She liked it. It was nice and quiet, no one really bothered her much. Especially since there were only thirteen people in the glade, including her.

Another hour seemed to pass really quickly in her eyes, and she made her way to the dinner hall where not many other gladers showed up yet.

"Hey Clara." Fry greeted her as he handed her a bowl and a biscuit. "Tomato soup today. Hope you enjoy."

"I'm sure I will. You always make the best." She gave him a kind smile and he smiled proudly at her words.

Clara placed the biscuit in her mouth and gently carried the bowl to her usual spot at one of the tables, sitting down. She took the biscuit out of her mouth and gently ripped it apart, before placing a piece in her mouth.

"I'm telling you someone needs to deal with that shuckface."  Nick (aka greenie from day one) told Newt.

"He can't be that bad."  Newt looked at him as the two made their way to where Clara was sitting.

"Oh, yeah.  He called me every word in the book."  Nick gave him a look as he sat next to Clara, Newt across from him.

"Who are you talking about?"  Clara questioned as she held the biscuit in her hand.

"Gally."  Newt answered.

"Didn't he arrive two months ago?"  She asked.

"Yeah and he's a pain in my ass."  Nick looked to her.

"Who isn't a pain in your ass Nick?"  George sat next to Newt, across from Clara.

"Shut up Georgie."  Nick gave his best friend a look.

"I'm right." George pointed his spoon at him.

Leo and Minho walked over, Leo taking a seat next to Clara while Minho sat across from him, next to George.

"Are we talking about Gally?" Minho questioned.

"Yes." Nick looked to him.

"Don't know what's with that shank. Everyone I've talked to doesn't like him. He seems like he has a stick up his ass." Minho ripped his biscuit apart.

"Everyone except for..." Minho trailed off, looking over to Clara who was still nibbling at her biscuit.

"Why are you looking at me?" She questioned, scrunching up her eyebrows.

"Have you talked to him?" Minho asked.

"Yeah. I don't think I've seen you talk to him." George pointed out.

"Does it really matter if she's talked to him?" Newt questioned, not really understanding where they were getting at.

"I've only really talked to him when he first came up and just things here and there." She shrugged.

"She doesn't talk much why are you surprised." Nick looked fo Minho and George.

"You would think since she's the only girl she has loads to say." Nick continued and Clara's jaw clenched slightly.

"Maybe she's holding secrets." George chuckled as Newt and Leo could tell that Clara was getting annoyed.

"Maybe she secretly remembers everything and is waiting to kill us." Nick joked and Clara abruptly stood up and made her way out.

"Dumbass." Minho threw his spoon at Nick.

"What? What?!" Nick looked at them confused. Completely unaware of his actions.

"It's not funny." Newt told the two seriously, before messing with his soup.

"Should I check on her?" Leo questioned, looking over to Newt.

"No, pretty sure she wants us to leave her the shuck alone." Newt confirmed.

Clara has her hands clenched at her sides as she made her way through the deadheads. She usually went here when she wanted to be alone and have time for herself.

She let out a few deep breaths as she continued to walk, she knew they were only joking but still. That wasn't something to joke about and they don't know how she feels inside.

Clara came to a sudden stop when she saw someone sitting against one of the trees, a few feet away from her.  She noticed it was Gally.  She decided what could be the harm and made her way over, sitting against the opposite tree from him.

He was crying and when he saw her come over, he quickly wiped away his tears.  He watched as she just sat there, and didn't say anything.  He really thought she was going to ask 'what's wrong?' And honestly, he was glad she didn't.

After about ten minutes of not saying anything, he was the first to speak up.

"What are you doing here?"

"Some of the boys were getting on my nerves so I came here." She looked over at him.

Gally nodded as he fiddled around with his fingers. "I wasn't crying." He said out of the blue, making Clara smile slightly.

"I won't tell anyone if that's what you're worried about. I've done my fair share of crying along with everyone else. It's just a matter of time before you break."

Gally listened to what she said, he took it in and gave her a small nod before looking down at the ground then back at her. "Do you think we'll get out?" He asked.

"Yes. Someday. Don't know when, don't know how, but we'll do it. Together." She gave him a comforting smile and he nodded once more.

"I think this is the most I've heard you talk." A smile slowly made its way on his face.

"I think this is one of the first conversations I've actually had with someone." She let out a small laugh.

"Really?" He raised an eyebrow. "What about with that group you came up with on day one? Aren't you close with them?" His tone was a bit confused.

"I mean. Sure, I've known them since day one. Leo I would say I'm close with. Newt is nice, Minho a bit mouthy, but...I don't know." She shrugged not really knowing how to finish.

"They don't understand you?" Gally asked and she just stared at him before nodding.

"Yeah." Her voice was soft as she confirmed what he said. Gally nodded as well, another small smile playing on his lips.

"I can understand that." Gally spoke.

That was the start of their friendship. Clara never told anyone that she found Gally crying in the deadheads. The two would later become best friends, and none of them know it yet, but their friendship would still be there even after she was gone.
