Another Night Under The Stars
Another stressful day at school as usual. I slammed the door behind me when I got home, throwing my backpack onto the floor.
"Honey you're going to break the floor one day! You have bricks in that bag!" My mom scolded me. It wouldn't be the first time I broke the floor. Last time was when I literally brought home bricks and threw the bag on my bedroom floor in second or third grade, but that's a story for another day.
"Cool it." I said coldly.
"Well do you want any dinner?" She asked, taking something off the burner in the kitchen.
"Nah, I'm gonna go study." I lied, grabbing one of my binders and headed to my room.
"Nuh-uh, not so fast." My mom said, grabbing my shoulder and holding up my past math exam. "I don't believe you're studying up there kiddo." She scolds.
It was true. I never studied in my room, just did things like smoke and drugs. What can I say? I'm a teenager in high school.
"Look, I can explain mom.." I said holding my two hands up as if I were getting arrested, which I have been actually; for drinking. I was lucky my mom bailed me out.
"You better be able to when your father comes back from his business trip." My mother slammed the exam onto the kitchen table before storming off. Probably to her office to continue her writing job, which she was quite good at.
Up in my room, I threw my binder onto my bed and got out a cigarette and a lighter, lighting the cigarette.
After around five minutes of smoking, I heard my phone start ringing. I might have only had a flip phone while everyone else had the newest iPhone, but whatever.
"Hey, Alex here." I answered.
"Hey dude! If you ain't busy, I found us a pretty cool camping spot. If it's alright with your mom, you could totally come out here! Bro we've got smores, tents, sleeping bags, all that good stuff. You in?" I heard my buddy Jay say over the phone.
"Hah, sounds good bro. I'll be out in the driveway." I replied, hanging up and looking to the window.
I opened up the window, blessed there was roof below it to walk on. I had my phone, a pack of cigarettes, and a lighter. Carefully, I walked around to the front of the house, where I climbed down onto the porch and headed to the driveway to get picked up.
"And... And then she... Woooo... She threw my phone onto the FLOOR man!" Another one of my friends said. He was Brian.
At the campsite with us was Brian, Jay, Connor, Ryan, and myself. We all were roasting marshmallows over our campfire, which I lit myself with my lighter.
"One h*ll of a break up there bud." Connor commented, patting Brian on the back.
"Yeah, sure was. Now I gotta use a damn flip phone until I can muster up enough money for an iPhone X." He complained.
"Hey flip phones aren't all bad." I protested.
"Hah, well, " Jay said, bringing graham crackers and chocolate out of his tent, "cheers boys. To another night under the stars."
Everyone touched their marshmallows together before putting their smores together.
We joked around while we ate, talking about how many girls we got nudes of, our exam scores, and even our plans after high school.
"Alright, who's bunking with who?" Ryan asked.
"Well there's an odd number of us, so one of us will be alone." Connor said.
"Just gonna say it." I blurted out. "Ryan sings in his sleep. He's the exiled one of the pack." I looked to Ryan. "Hate to say it but you're sleeping alone bud."
"Cool it Alex, I'll sleep with him." Brian said, putting an arm on Ryans shoulder.
"Shocking. Normally his singing is garbage. You sure about that Brian?" I asked.
"Hey!" Ryan shot me a glare.
"You find it garbage, I find it peaceful." He said, guiding him and Ryan to a tent.
"I'll sleep alone." Connor said. Before Jay could protest, he was already in the black tent.
"Alrighty. You ready for this Alex?" Jay gave me a light punch on the shoulder.
"Just like old times man." I said.
Jay and I ended up sharing a sleeping bag, since Connor had more than he needed. Why we don't get it? Because waking Connor is like poking a sleeping bear. You don't do it unless you want to be the beast's snack.
I was almost asleep when I heard footsteps outside. Careful not to wake Jay, I stepped out of the tent to investigate.
"Hey... Is somebody there..?" I called out.
Then I heard more footsteps, followed by howls and barks of what could've only been a wolf or coyote.
"HEY! EVERYONE UP!" I shouted. "WOLVES!"
"You aren't joking?" Brian asked in panic.
"No man. C'mon, we gotta go. Now." I urged.
All of us ran in the opposite sound of the animals, praying to outrun them.
Eventually we found a cave in wherever the heck we were in the forest.
I led the way, lighting up the dark cave with my lighter.
"Hey, this leads somewhere." I said as we neared an exit.
"Pray it's not a wolf den." Ryan said.
A/N: Just a story I've been writing for quite a while now, and I've just saved it in my drafts. With all said, I hope you enjoyed, and have a great day or night depending on when you're reading!
