Chapter 14
When they were both dropped off to their apartment, both men stare at something left in front of their door.
There's a food basket charmingly wrapped with a red ribbon that contains fruits, a good choice of champagne, and some canned goods. There's also small variety of flowers, obviously intended as a gift.
But for who?
Both men gaze at each other in question, no verbal words exchanged between them. "Is that yours?", "Is it for you?"
Brendon decided to probe more into the mysterious gift, and through inspection, he finds a pink paper slid between some oranges.
"Who is it from?" Dallon inquires, as he looks over Brendon's shoulder to see what he was reading.
The younger man seems startled at the message. Before he can even speak, they both heard a bark and someone giggling inside their apartment.
With a nod from Brendon, he opens the door, which was unlocked, and reveals a beautiful woman of raven hair and eyes that color almost similar to his own. Her ruby lips formed a lovely smile that would have taken anyone's breath away.
"Surprise! Miss me, Bren?" She says excitedly as she carries Zero in her arms.
"Sarah?"
Dallon only watches their reunion with an unsure smile, thinking if he should leave the two friends some alone time. He excused himself and decided to keep himself busy, returning their bags to their room.
Zero seems to have followed him, watching him fold his clothes and return them to his dresser. He could still hear the excited chatter of the two from his room.
Brendon talks about her often, so at least the younger woman isn't a total stranger to him that just invaded their home without second thought. Did she use her charm on Mrs. Truman to let her enter here? Brendon's friends seem to have more in them than he expected.
It's a bit peculiar that he needs to impress the person that Brendon was suppose to marry just so he can get an approval of asking the younger man out. Something he didn't think he'd actually do.
He's too traditional. He knows he just needs Brendon's consent to ask him out on a date. But Dallon wants to make it special. This is the first person he ever had the courage to ask out. He wants to make the most of it. Dallon wants to convey to the people important in Brendon's life that he's serious about this.
A knock from the door interrupts his musings and reveals Brendon, smiling shyly at him, his cheeks tinted pink. He can only assume that Sarah has been harassing him with embarrassing things that Dallon had to bit his lip to stop himself from grinning.
"I want to introduce you to Sarah." He announces, giving him an expecting look. Zero twitches from the name and barks beside him, then runs off the room, probably back to Sarah.
"Brendon is with you. You can do this." He mentally readies himself, as he gives a nod to the expecting man by the door.
When Brendon outstretched his hand, Dallon looks down at it in confusion. He looks back at the other man who raised an eyebrow at him.
"Oh." In realization of Brendon's gesture, he suddenly became nervous. He wants them to hold hands. They haven't even started the process of dating, but holding hands between two men is already affectionate enough in the eyes of some people. Sure, he held hands with the younger man when they were alone, and even in front of Weston and Nikki.
Brendon seems to notice his discomfort and lowers his hand to his side. He seems to understand Dallon's hesitation, but a subtle shift of expression from his eyes confirmed that he was disappointed for the rejection of contact.
He never wanted to see the look of disappointment in his eyes, so he did the closest thing to the gesture, despite how immature it seems.
Dallon approaches his space, and holds on to the long sleeve of Brendon's clothing. It's an innocuous gesture. But the younger man knows what it means. And so, Brendon smiles at him widely.
Returning it would only be the appropriate choice as they meet Sarah.

"If I weren't into girls, I would have asked him out already." Sarah whispers, as she watches Dallon return their bags to his room. "He's a cutie."
Brendon grumbles, feeling rather selfish. "Go get your own."
His friend just coos at his possessiveness. "Well, aren't you jelly?" Sarah teases with a cheeky grin, poking on Brendon's sides that made him grumble even more.
Sarah sobers from the teasing disposition, her expression morphing to a smile with a soft gaze as she turns her head towards Dallon's room.
"He seems like a very nice guy."
Feeling the warmth on his cheeks at her words, he smiles. "He is."
"Introduce me to him? He seems to be quite a shy person too." Sarah confirms, before another mischievous look gleams in her eyes. "What's with you and tall, quiet, brunettes?"
"Shut up." He shushes with a blush on his cheeks. "Don't pressure him, okay?" He warns with glare, feeling overprotective for the brunette.
Sarah only laughs in response, adoring her best friend's crush on the gentle giant. "I won't. Now introduce me, lover boy."
Brendon huffs at her, his cheeks getting even warmer from her embarrassing words that made him shook his head in amusement.
With a knock on Dallon's door, he peeks inside, seeing the older man folding his clothes with Zero watching him. Brendon mentally readies himself when the brunette acknowledges his presence.
"I want to introduce you to Sarah."
When Dallon stood up, he automatically tries to reach for him. But the look of discomfort from his attempt makes him retract it to his side. 'I'm such an idiot.' Brendon thought dejectedly.
Dallon isn't ready.
But he knows Dallon is getting there, as he decided to hold on to the sleeve of his clothing. He knows the taller man is trying, and that's enough for him.
He can see Sarah beaming at them as he brought Dallon. Her eyes shift to the hand holding on his sleeve that made her smile widely at the brunette.
"Brendon told me so much about you. Nice to finally meet you. I'm Sarah Orzechowski." She introduces with the natural grace and charm that leaves Brendon always impressed.
"D-Dallon Weekes. Nice to meet you too, Sarah."
Sarah seems to keep her end of the bargain as she chats with Dallon. The brunette looked a bit nervous at the beginning, but he begins to ease and laugh at Sarah's words. He always knew that Sarah is the type of person anyone can get comfortable with, even for someone as shy as Dallon.
"Is it hard to teach kids?" Sarah asked, as she takes a bite from the sandwich they made for her.
Dallon shrugs, looking contemplative of the question. "It depends? All the kids have different personalities that you have to get along to. There are shy kids and there's those really active kids that you need to watch for. They're a bit accident-prone, really. And we also have special kids. Some are dyslexic, some with autism, some with slow learning progress. Patrick and I try our best to make them feel like they're not different from the rest of the kids."
"It sounds hard at first but when you offer them a piece of your heart, they return it to you in their own way. That makes our job worth it." Dallon concludes with a heartwarming smile, that made Brendon catch his breath and Sarah giggle beside him.
"I'm pretty sure it really did pay off." Sarah responds with a pointed glance towards him that made him blush.
How long will he be thoroughly embarrassed? Dallon seems blissfully unaware of Sarah's pointed descriptions, thank goodness.
A knock from the door interrupts them. Dallon excuses himself with an apologetic smile as he answers the door, making Sarah turn to him with a soft, knowing gaze.
"He's a keeper. How were you so lucky to find him?" She whispers, while Dallon is distracted on talking to Matty by the door.
Brendon shrugs with a cheeky, embarrassed grin. "Barge into someone's car and call yourself 'Satan'.
She laughs at that, making her poke Brendon to his side that made him laugh as well.
"He seems to make you really happy. And I can tell he would never do something to intentionally hurt you." Sarah states, turning her gaze to Dallon, then back to him. "Spencer wasn't kidding when he said this guy's a total saint. We're surprised he's actually your type. We assumed you like bad boys with pretty words."
"I can't believe you guys are judging my choices." He let's out a fake look of annoyance that made Sarah stifle a giggle from her lips.
"We just want what's best for you, dear!" Sarah let's out a fake British accent, as she leans her head on Brendon's shoulder. He automatically wraps an arm around her shoulders.
"And at this moment, he's right in front of you." She whispers softly, as he can hear the smile in her voice.
The words itself made him smile. It's an approval. Sarah has always been good at knowing people. She has that intuition in knowing a person's intention.
A seal of approval from her means that she can trust Dallon. And that's all Brendon can ask for.
"I know."
*****
Both men had to say good bye to Sarah so soon, since she has to meet up with her Father's clients. She gave Dallon a warm hug, and a whispered request to take care of Brendon. He complies.
He liked Sarah. She has that motherly kindness that can make anyone be at ease with her.
"Both of you would have been a great couple." He says to Brendon, as the younger man snuggles Zero in his arms.
"Well, you're not the first to say that." He says with a sheepish smile. "But we're better off as friends."
Dallon hums at that, taking the finished plate of sandwich from the table and proceeds to wash it. If Sarah had interest in men, then he's pretty sure he would never have met Brendon. They would have been married with a large house. Probably have adorable children, or dogs. That would have been Brendon's life.
While he knew long before that he always had a thing for women as well as men, with his siblings openly supportive of his choice, how things would have changed if he didn't meet Brendon.
"Bren, are you available tonight?"
Dallon hums a tune as he waits for Brendon's response. The other man seems to be taking a bit of time to answer him. He turns around to see the younger man staring at him dumbfoundedly from the couch. His mouth agape with a flaming blush on his cheeks.
Did he say something wrong?
Brendon clears his throat before he responds. "Y-Yeah. Why?"
"Matty wanted us to go to the café tonight. It's Music Night today, so I thought you'd like to watch it with me."
Dallon watches amusedly as Brendon tries to answer. His mouth opens to respond, then closes. It reminds Dallon of a goldfish, but the younger man doesn't need to know that.
"S-Sure?" He answers interrogatively, then turns away from him as he keeps himself busy playing with Zero.
Dallon wonders what has gotten the other man so fidgety all of the sudden. But he shrugs it off, not wanting the man to be anymore uncomfortable than he already is.
"Okay then."
*****
Dallon did NOT just ask him out on a date. Did Dallon just ask him out on a date? Did Dallon even have any idea that it sounded like he was asking him on a date?
'Stop it, Urie.' He mentally slaps himself, as they both reach the cafe.
Brendon never reached the night shift in the cafe, but it actually looks astounding during music night. The instruments are set on a makeshift stage, with colorful light dancing around. The cafe is mostly packed with teenagers having a chat with each other before the performances start. He hears one of them talking about an open mic performance with Matty on it.
And here, the said man appears, waltzing up the stage with a bottle of liquor in his hand. The curly haired man seems to be drunk already before the party even started that Brendon had to stifle a laugh from his seat.
"If you brats can keep your hormones in check before we start this night, that would be great, thanks."
It made him laugh as he can see Dallon pinching the bridge of his nose as he was talking to a giggling Dan from the counter, watching Matty's little episode from the stage.
"I have a song for all of you tonight." He announces with grandeur. Matty turns to the crowd and caught Brendon's gaze. With a wide smile, he continues:
"This song is for my two idiot friends who clearly like each other and should really confess to each other before I kick their arses when this night ends! This song is called Heart Out."
The crowds cheer in cacophonous glee as Matty raises his bottle of wine as a sign of toast to the people. He hides his face behind his hands. If Brendon could die in embarrassment, then hopefully it happens any moment now.
"I knew he was planning something."
Brendon peeks from his hands and notices Dallon beside him, placing their drinks on the table and watches Matty's performance with an unreadable look on his eyes. He then turns to Brendon with an apologetic look.
"I'm sorry. He gets a bit wild when he's drunk."
"Yeah, I realized that."
"You got something to say?
Why don't you speak it out loud, instead of living in your head?
It's always the same.
Why don't you take your heart out, instead of living in your head?"
Brendon watches the older man's performance on stage, but he takes a glance on the brunette beside him when he can. His heart beats louder than the booming sounds of the speakers around them. He knows it's finally time, now that the opportunity is here.
After Matty's performance, he made his decision as he makes his way towards the stage, much to Dallon's surprise. Even he didn't think he'd be doing this right now, but Matty's drunken state might have fueled him to sing the song that he finally finished writing.
And he only hopes Dallon would listen.
"Hi, I'm Brendon Urie. And I wrote this song for someone very special named Dallon Weekes. It's called Always."
He takes a deep breath as he holds the guitar to his chest. His feels the crowd's stare towards him, but only one person caught his attention, and that person is watching him right now, waiting for the words of confession to make a harmony from his lips.
As he closes his eyes, imagining the steely, blue hues of Dallon's eyes, he finally sings.
"It was always you..."

[A/N: oh gosh it took how many chapters before these dorks finally confessed to each other. And it took me days to finally update sorry!
I wanted to fit everything in one chapter, hoping it didn't seem too rushed or confusing. I think I'm getting there. I already have the ending in mind, I just need to add three/four more characters that are important to the story that would tie everything nicely (in my opinion) but we'll get there soon.
I still find the number of reads from this fic unbelievable. Never have I imagined it would take this far. Thank you all so much. (And as for the Peterick Spin off, the prompt is ready and waiting to be written!)
Thank you for reading, sorry for the mistakes and enjoy your day!]
