.VII.

Odilia's point of view:-

'You call this food?' I asked Elias who was trying to skin a fish with a stick. The fish was absolutely black in colour and that was most likely the reason which woke me up. It was most probably burnt, or worse, under-cooked.

'Hey! At least I caught the fishes for our lunch! Now we can have a sumptuous meal, no thanks to you.' Did I mention him being cocky is turning me on? His eyes have this positive fervour that was lacking when I first met him.

Control, Odilia. Control.

'I realized something.' Elias said, stopping his actions. I nodded to let him continue and he said the words I never wanted to hear. At least, not for the next 29 days.

'What's your name?'

I laughed tensely and tried to play it off cool. I plopped myself down and scrutinised the fishes. They were alright. The flesh was somewhat brown, so they're quite consumable. I guess the smoke from the fire turned it black. Oh look, Elias also collected berries for me. Thankfully, they were edible ones.

'You do recognise that you're stuck with me for the next entire month, right?' Elias broke the silence and gave me a sharp look. I sighed and run my hand through my hair.

I can't possibly give him my real name...

It was plausible that if I used a fake name, I would certainly forget about it, like a moment later. I can't quite risk my identity for this guy.

Not if he's just not worth it...

'I am convinced you don't want me to know your name. Relax, I am not a slayer.' I chuckled and shook my head, thinking about a simple name whose meaning I knew to cover my tracks.

'Imogen.' I blurted out and before I could kick myself for it, he smiled looking at the ground. This is so creepy. Who even does that?

Maybe he knows my identity...

No, this can't happen. At least till the time, I am sure that the arranged prince isn't going to marry me. Maybe I can head back home after Elias goes back. Yeah, that works. I can even tell my father I had a relationship with Elias, obviously omitting his name.

Odilia, you're a genius...

'You know, your smile is very creepy. And the fact you're not even paying any attention to me is very... I don't want to say scary, but it terrorises me a lot.' He gave me a weird look as if mentally asking if I was taking any psychedelic substances.

Elias, you've seen only the surface of who I am...

'Since I was sleeping-'

'Do you mean unconscious? I mean you fell flat on the ground without any warning.'

'Oh yeah? Let me just send you a letter the next time I decide to get a heat stroke.' I crossed my arms and gave him a crossed look. He threw up his hands in despair and scoffed. This man is really asking for trouble...

'Look, in my entire life, I've never tried to survive in the wild and on the first day, you're going to faint on me then I'll definitely get scared and panic and make wrong judgments. And while you're at it, send me a list of instructions with the stupid letter!' Elias spits out.

Did I scare him? I get heat strokes all the time.

Odilia, your face is very scary. Obviously you'll scare him.

I look beautiful.

I don't know why you believe this but, whatever you think is correct.

It must be my skin tone!

I have always been misunderstood as a servant when I roam around in the market without the guards. Unless and until I am not wearing my royal robes, people will treat me like scum stuck at the bottom of their shoes.

One time, a shopkeeper called me a thief just because I was just looking at his produce and accused me of stealing his fruits. Like I would take any of his rotting garbage! He threatened me that he'll take me to the King and tell him that I was stealing. I had books in my bag and he mistook them for rotten oranges. That was definitely not my fault.

Great, now he'll think that I am a measly woman who has spent all her life in this beastly jungle.

'Look, all I am saying is just... cut me some slack. Alright? I am new to all this stuff and I would really fancy if you didn't keep breathing down my neck, just like the council, trying to make my every step a bloody blunder! Does that work for you or not?' He gave me the nastiest glower I have seen after my father's and steered a tapering piece of wood at me. Okay, he isn't as adorable he looked at the start and let's just try not to let him intimidate me.
