Chapter Four
I drug my sister through the twisting hallways of the never-ending house, trying to escape the grotesque travesty of our mother.
As we reached the fourth hallway that we been through, another foe met us. This time our father. He looked the same as our mom with his bent neck and empty eye sockets.
"Fuck!" I yelled and Kathy and I came skidding to a stop.
"That's bad language, Ella dear," the demonic ghost of my father said.
"You shouldn't talk that way," the gravelly voice of my mom cut through the darkness.
I whipped around to see her figure shambling towards Kathy and I. My dad started to shuffle towards us as well.
My breathing became heavy and I squeezed my eyes shut.
It's just a dream. Wake up Ella. Wake up. Wake up, I thought but when I opened my eyes again I was still in the abandoned house with my dead parents walking towards me and my terrified sister.
"What do we do Ella?" Kathy asked, panic evident in her tone.
"I don't know. I don't know," I whispered.
"Oh Ella. I always thought you were supposed to be the smart one," the apparitions of my parents said in unison.
Tears started to flow from my eyes. I bit my lip to keep them back.
That's what they want. They feed off of fear, I thought but it didn't matter.
I was beyond terrified and so was Kathy. There was no way either of us would ever calm down enough to escape these monsters.
"Kathy," I cried and clutched at her arm like a little kid.
"Don't be scared girls. We'll all be together again," out parents said, once again in unison.
Kathy broke down in hysteric sobs.
"No!" I yelled.
My parents stopped their zombie-like shuffle.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart.
"You aren't real! Both of you died! Just go! Leave!" I screamed in a voice that sounded braver then I felt.
Kathy, regaining her senses, stood up straighter.
"Leave! Go! And never come back!" she yelled.
I gripped her hand tightly and together we stood against the ghosts of our parents.
Suddenly, in a white flash of light and a puff of smoke, the two were gone.
I let out a sigh of relief and turned towards Kathy.
"Let's get out of here..." she said in a shaky voice.
I nodded, not trusting my own voice, and we began another walk through the hallways.
We thought we were done. We thought that was the last of it. Oh, but how wrong we were.
