not ready to die of boredom (38)
My arms bump into something as I stretch them. I sigh and move to bury my face into William's shoulder. I feel his arm move around me which tells me that he's also awake.
After a few minutes I push myself up so that I'm sitting on the bed next to him. Swinging my legs off the bed I moves towards the bathroom. I wash my face with warm water and then go back to the room to find William sitting on the bed's edge staring down at his feet.
"Morning." I say, walking towards him.
"Hey." He replies getting up and coming to stand in front of me with his hands on my waist.
"Did you sleep well?" I ask, rubbing his arm.
He nods. "As long as you're next to me I'm bound to sleep well. Which means I'll be having trouble sleeping for the next month."
This makes me smile. "You can just come over every night."
He sighs. "If it were that I'd just take you back with me but keeping some distance between us is why we're doing this, so might as well stick to it."
I groan as he pulls me into a hug. After a few moments he pulls away saying. "I might not be able to come cover today because I have a couple of meetings and I don't know when they'll end."
I nod my head, slightly disappointed which I'm sure my face gave away because he slips a finger under my chin and tugs on it till I look up.
"Hey. I'm sorry." He says, kissing me softly.
"I understand." I tell him when we pull away.
He moves towards the couch to pick up his coat. I open the door and walk to the kitchen with him right behind me.
"Cass...William!" Mom exclaims when we walk in. Clearly surprised to see him here. "I didn't know you were here."
"It was a sort of last minute decision." He tells her.
"Oh! Would you like some breakfast?" She asks.
"No. Thank you. I should be heading back." He smiles at her before turning to me and planting a kiss on my cheek.
"Bye buddy." I whisper as his lips touch my skin.
"See you tomorrow." He says, winking at me making me blush.
Mom moves to see him out. In the meanwhile I busy myself with warming leftover pasta for myself. I put some on the plate before putting it in the oven.
While I wait for it to warm mom returns. "Why didn't you tell me?! It was so embarrassing to be wearing pyjamas!"
I take out the plate and take out a fork, saying. "He's not that type of a guy, mom. He really doesn't care about what you wear."
I take a bite and moan as I swallow. I didn't realise I was this hungry till now. Mom leaves to change as I help myself to a second serving. I'm almost done eating when she returns.
"How did your date go?" I ask her.
She sets down her coffee mug. "Fine."
"Fine?" I ask, raising an eyebrow. "That's all you have to say about it? Come on! There must be more."
"Alright, fine! It was fun. Maybe the most fun thing I've done in the past five years." She sighs.
"So, it went well." I say.
This makes a smile spread across her face. "Yeah. It did."
I finish eating and then leave the kitchen to change. I take a shower and then change into one of William's shirts I brought with me and a pair of jeggings.
I hear mom knock on the door and then call out. "I'm leaving for work. If you need anything just call me!"
"Alright!" I call back as I tug a sweater over my head.
I sit in the living room looking around, trying to think of something to do when my phone starts to ring. It's Anna.
"Hey!" I say answering the call.
"Hi! How are you?" She asks.
"I'm good but you sound nervous." I reply.
There's a moments pause before she speaks again. "Umm...That's kind of the reason why I called."
"Really? What is it?" I ask her.
"Uh...It's just that..." She trails off.
"Anna. You can talk to me about anything you want to. I won't tell anyone or judge." I assure her.
I hear her sigh. "Alright. The thing is that my parents agreed to meet Harrison today and he agreed to meet them. But the problem is that I'm not ready for this."
"But didn't you want this?" I ask, confused.
"I do! But I'm not ready." She says.
"Anna. It's going to be fine. He's such a great guy, your parents are bound to like him. Just believe in him, okay? It's not like they're not going to be nervous too." I try to comfort her.
"I know." She says. "Anyways, I've already taken up too much of your time."
"No, I'm glad that you called me." I tell her.
"Thank you, Cassy." She says.
"Anytime." I tell her as she ends the call.
I sigh and push myself up from the couch. I make my way to the kitchen and peer inside the fridge but I don't anything appealing except a box of orange juice. After pouring myself a glass I take a seat on one of the stools.
This times my phone rings, again. I check the caller ID. Ella.
"Hey Cassy!" She greets me.
"Hi!" I say, taking a sip.
"How's pregnant life going?" She asks me.
"I've gotten used to it." I reply, unconsciously rubbing my tummy.
"I'm taking Leo out to buy a few things. I was wondering if you'd want to tag along and shop for a few things too." She offers.
I'm not supposed to go anywhere without telling William.
"Give me a couple of minutes and I'll let you know." I tell her.
"Okay. Bye then." She says, hanging up.
I dial William's number and hold the phone to my ear. He doesn't pick up, so I leave him a voice mail.
Hey! Ella and Leo are going out and she invited me along. So, I was wondering if I could join them because I really have nothing to do and I'm not ready to die of boredom. Let me know asap.
After a few minutes my phone chimes notifying me of the arrival of a message.
Hi! I'm sorry I didn't attend your call. I'm in a meeting. You can go as long as you're careful and don't attract too much attention. I'll send a car for you. Don't forget to put on your sunglasses.
I smile at the last line and then call Ella to let her know that I'll make it. After talking to her I rummage through my clothes and find a shirt of my own. Fifteen minutes later I'm in the car with the driver driving towards our destination.
He stops the car in front of the address which I gave him. I put on my sunglasses and step out of the car. A guard holds the shop's door open for me. I look around but fail to spot Ella. I call and her and tells me that she's in the shoes section.
After a few minutes I find them. Leo is sitting on a long stool with Ella crouched in front of him as she helps him try on a shoe. She has her back to me but Leo immediately sees me and touches his mother's shoulder making her turn around.
"I'm so glad that you made it!" She says, hugging me.
When she pulls away I sit down next to my nephew and let them finish their shoe shopping. In the end Leo decides on a pair of tiny converse sneakers. I smile at them because I never imagined they'd be available in such small sizes.
"So, what exactly are you looking for?" Ella asks me as she stands up.
"I don't really know. I guess I'll just tag along and see what there is to buy." I suggest.
"Alright. Let's start shopping then." She says.
Leo jumps off his seat and takes his mother's outstretched hand. I get up too and the three of us start walking towards the clothes aisle.
----------------------
I enter the house with three bags in hand. I walk into the kitchen to find mom standing next to the stove.
"Hey!" I call out.
"Hi! How were Ella and Leo?" She asks.
"Good. Leo was excited, as usual." I reply, smiling.
"I was cooking dinner for you." She tells me, turning back to the stove.
I set down the bags in the kitchen counter. "You make it a sound like you're not going to be here for dinner."
"That's because I'm not." She says.
"Let me guess." I pause and pretend to think. "Liam?"
"You guessed correct." She laughs making me laugh too.
