Chapter Fourteen

It was a sunny Saturday afternoon, the weather was cool and a little bit chilly, just like every other day in early October. I was at the private beach at the back of the mansion with Annabelle and I had just narrated to her what had transpired between myself and Anton the previous day.

"Kenzie, you're such a drama queen," she laughed, "I can just imagine Anton's face when you told him you're....." she broke off, bursting out into more fits of laughter.

I laughed too but then quickly sobered up, "he has a mistress."

Annabelle stopped laughing, "what?" She turned to look at me a perplexed expression marring her delicate features.

"Yeah, that's exactly what I thought when I caught them."

"You caught them together!" She seemed even more surprised, "who is she, who is that home-wrecker?"

"They were getting it on in Anton's room last night," I answered, "she is Carmen lacrosse, that Ford model."

"I never really liked her," she muttered then patted me on the shoulder, "aw, you must be really devastated."

Shrugging I denied, "nah, I don't really care."

She gave me a skeptical look, "ofcourse you do, you just don't wanna admit it."

I hung my head low. Even though I didn't show any emotion towards the revelation when I was with Anton earlier in the day, I felt let down. I didn't know he was capable of doing something like that.

"Anyways," I brightened up (no need to be miserable), "enough talk about Anton and his sordid little affair, lets talk about you and Joshua Billings!"

Annabelle raised an eyebrow, "what about Josh and I?"

"You totally like him!" I squealed.

"N-no I don't," Annabelle said weakly.

"C'mon girl," I nudged her, "tell me the truth we're bffs."

She sighed and a sad expression took over her face, "it doesn't matter if I like him, he obviously doesn't feel the same."

"Aw, how do you know that?"

"I just know okay!" She snapped then her eyes widened, "oh God, I'm sorry I snapped at you kenzie, I didn't mean to."

I hugged her, "hey its no biggie."

She hugged me back, "and FYI I love Josh not like him."

"Seems like we're the heartbroken duo," I stated, "even though I'm not heartbroken."

"Just admit it, you're starting to like Anton."

"Yeah whatever," I rolled my eyes. I knew that I was starting to like Anton Grandeau but I didn't want to admit it.

"We make a good team," Annabelle said after a while."

"Yeah we do," I said.

Some minutes passed in silence before Annabelle raised her head from where she'd rested it on my shoulder. She sat up straight and I followed suit. "You know what, I just came up with the best idea ever."

"And what is that idea?" I questioned.

"A party!" She exclaimed excitedly, "a pool party for just me, you, Josh and Anton."

"Plus Louis, Anton's twin brother, Thomas and Jean, his friends and my friends from school, Danielle and Jenny," I added.

"Okay, that's a great idea but where will the pool party be held?"

"The mansion," I said, "we'll use the garden, its very large and it has a huge pool."

"Great, so we need to make snacks for the party right?"

"Yeah," I nodded. I took out my phone from my beach bag and unlocked it, "I'll send Danielle a message to go pick up Jenny then they can go shopping and bring the things we need here. But before they arrive, we can head back to the mansion and start making snacks out of the things available."

Annabelle nodded in agreement, "I'll call Josh to tell him and you can call all the rest."

We got up, packed our stuff and headed towards the house.

The four of us were in a guest room at the mansion getting ready. I didn't want us to get dressed in my room because Danielle and Jenny didn't know about my situation with Anton and I didn't exactly want to tell them.

When the two had arrived, I introduced them to Annabelle and they totally hit it off. We then proceeded to make snacks ranging from tacos to burgers.

"You look stunning!" Jenny exclaimed when I came out of the bathroom wearing my swimsuit which was a red colored bikini and briefs with studded rhinestones.

"Thank you, you all look good too."

We high-fived then giggled and walked out. We were heading for the pool where the men were.

We went out of the house through the sliding doors at the back. Anton and Thomas were on the deck-chairs at the side having a conversation while Jean, Louis and Josh were in the pool.

Jenny, Danielle and I headed for the pool at once while Annabelle sat on one of the chairs saying that she was feeling a little nauseous. Poor pregnant gal I thought.

We were in the garden and everyone was seated eating when we heard footsteps approaching us. Everyone turned to see a red-head dressed in an off-shoulder crop top and short demin shorts walk towards us.

I recognized her as Amber from the club. I felt jealousy burn in me but it subsided when she walked over to Thomas, gave him a peck and sat beside him. She turned to everyone smiling, "sorry I'm late," she apologized.

"McKenzie Blair," Thomas looked at me, "this is Amber, my girlfriend." He turned to Amber, "Amber, this is McKenzie Blair, Anton's wife."

Amber smiled, not just any fake smile, a real smile that reached her eyes. I suddenly felt bad for not liking her back at the club. "Its so nice to finally meet you princess McKenzie Blair," she extended her hand, "I saw you at the club but we weren't introduced."

I shook her hand, smiling too, "Its so nice to meet you too Amber and please its Mckenzie Blair or just Kenzie, no need for formalities."

I kept looking at Blair in awe. She looked absolutely smashing (as usual). She was smiling and introducing Amber to her friends.

I found it funny and heartwarming that Blair had been jealous of Amber that night. Even though she wasn't admitting it, I knew she had been jealous. It was good that she'd been jealous, it proved that a tiny bit of her cared for me.

That was when I remembered that I was cheating on her with Carmen. I felt bad and guilty but then I reminded myself anytime the guilt started that I didn't stop her from having a boy toy and our marriage was one of convenience not love.

But you seemed pretty possessive of her when she was dancing with the guy at the bar a voice in my head said. I chose to ignore it, convincing myself that she didn't care and I didn't need to feel guilty.

I heard Thomas roar with laughter and looked up to see that Jean was making a joke. Ever the funny one I though.

"C'mon why don't we dance!" Blair's Japanese friend suggested excitedly.

"How can we dance," Amber pointed out, "there's no music."

"No music, who told you so?" Jenny brought out her phone from her purse, "I've got a variety of songs here, all we need are speakers."

Blair stood up, dragging Louis with her, "come on Louis, lets go inside and get the speakers in the living room."

I felt a wave of an unknown emotion hit me as they walked away together. Why didn't she ask me to go get the speakers with her? Well I rationalized she knew him better than she knew me and she only saw him as a brother.

Or did she?

I shrugged off the uncomfortable feeling that maybe she saw him as something more.

Soon, they were back with the speakers which were plugged to a socket at the entrance of the garden.

"Alright," Jenny clapped her hands after she connected her phone to the speakers, "lets dance salsa! Everybody grab your partners," She turned the music on.

I saw that Louis was heading towards Blair but I was closer to her so I dragged her to me. She seemed shocked that I wanted to dance with her but said nothing.

We started dancing and I looked at Blair to see that she was looking around us smiling a cute, innocent, genuine smile. She looked so mind-blowingly beautiful that I was left breathless for some seconds.

The moment was broken when she looked back at me and caught me staring at her, "what?" She asked.

I blushed slightly, I felt like a deer caught in the headlight, "nothing," I shook my head.

She gave me a weird look but said nothing.

"This is so fun!" I heard a thrilled Jenny exclaim.

I looked up to see that Thomas was dancing with Amber whispering something to her as she blushed, such a cute couple I thought. Near them, Jean was dancing with Jenny, both of them seemed to be having the time of their lives. Josh was dancing with his fiancee, Annabelle. Louis was dancing with Danielle.

I frowned.

Not because he was dancing with Danielle but because of the way he was looking at a particular person.

Blair.

He was looking at her with a wistful, sad face. Did he like her? I pondered as I pulled her closer to me.

I was really protective of her.

When everyone was gone, Blair and I entered the sitting room and started watching re-runs of Reign on the tv. That was probably the most normal thing we'd done in a long time. I have to admit it felt good.

"So," she broke the silence, "I've got a question for you."

Nodding I urged her to proceed,"shoot."

"How well do you know Josh Billings?"

I furrowed my brows, what did she want to know about Josh? "He's a business partner of mine and a friend, why are you interested?"

Blair sighed as she crossed her legs on the couch she sat on, "I just want to know if he loves his fiancee, Annabelle or if he likes her at least."

"Why?"

"Because Annabelle loves him and she deserves to be happy." She looked at me, "did he tell you the circumstances of their upcoming nuptials?"

I nodded, "yes."

"Then you must be a close friend of his."

Nodding again I replied, "yeah you could say that."

"Do you think you can find out if he loves her or even like her, and incase he doesn't, can you convince him to."

"So you want to help them have a happily ever after," I stated.

"Yes."

"And you want me to help you?"

"Yes."

"No," I shook my head, "why should I?"

Blair gave me a pointed look, "because it is a good deed and I figured, if you had any chance of going to heaven after you die, you'll be needing a lot of good deeds."

"Are you trying to say that there's a higher probability that I might end up in hell?" I inquired.

"Well you do have a mistress don't you." She waved her hand, her tone seemingly uncaring.

I gritted my teeth, "lets not talk about Carmen, besides I'll help you."

Her face brightened up and her gray eyes sparkled, "oh that's good to......"

"If," I intervened.

She hit her head with her hand, "I knew there was going to be an 'IF', I knew that you'd never do a good deed for free."

I ignored what she said and continued, "if you start cooking for me."

"Oh no, no way Jose, I won't!" She sounded so firm, I didn't dare argue.

"Okay," I compromised, "how about dinner only?"

"Hmm," she pursed her lips deep in thought and I couldn't help but notice how pink and full her lips were.

I chided myself, what was I doing checking out Blair's lips. But she's your wife my inner voice reasoned and I chose to ignore it as I usually did.

So engrossed in the argument I was having with myself, I barely heard Blair say, "okay."

"Really," I asked astounded, I didn't really think she'd agree, "that's great."

Blair rolled her eyes, "whatever, I know I'm such a good cook, and I'm most elevated to see that you crave my meals."

"Cocky much?"

She gave me a smirk, "I learnt from you."
