talk on the balcony (25)
I bury my face into my pillow and try to cry myself to sleep.
I didn't have to pack up anything because I never got to unpack it.
Tears keep flowing down my cheeks in little streams. I tried to stop them but when I try even more spilt out. So, I gave up a long time ago. I can't even imagine what mom's reaction will be when I get home and tell her that I lost my job. And that she did too.
Because of something that I didn't even do!
I sit up and wipe my cheeks. I run a hand through my hair and take deep breaths to calm myself down but that doesn't help either. I lay back down and close my eyes.
In no less that five seconds I'm on my feet and pacing back and forth. My bare feet make no sound on the wooden floor. When my legs my finally begin to ache I force myself to sit on the couch. I lean back and put my feet onto the table.
I keep staring at one spot till my troubled thoughts come rushing back to me and I start crying all over again.
I groan in frustration and fling a cushion across the room and it hits the wall. I don't go pick it up.
After a few more minutes I can't take it any more.
I glance up at the clock on the wall. It reads 1:00 a.m. No servants are supposed to come out of their rooms before six in the morning. But technically I'm not a housemaid anymore, so I can do whatever I want.
I put on a hoodie and a pair of bedroom slippers and then leave the room. It's really quiet everyone must be asleep. I decide to go to the balcony. It looks out onto the beach. Plus, no rooms are near it. I push open the door and step out into the fresh air.
A light breeze ruffles my hair. It feels good to me. I take a few breaths and then sit down onto a chair and stare out at the still waters of the sea. Several thoughts run through my head.
I should run away. This way I won't have to face mom. Or I could just simply own up and face the consequences. I want to go back home rather than stay here. But I'm scared of what will happen if I go back.
A throat being cleared makes me jump and I jump up from my seat to find out who it is.
It's William.
"What are you here at this time?" He asks me.
"May I ask you the same question?" I ask in my strongest possible voice.
"I just needed some fresh air." He tells me.
"Same." I tell him and then ask. "Why did you need the fresh air?"
"I just needed it. You?" He says and walks onto the balcony.
"Had to clear my head. Her royal highness fired me and it cost my mom her job too. I deserve some fresh air." I rely in a defiant tone.
He processes this and then speaks up. "Yeah, I heard that they kicked you out. But why?"
"Mrs. Blake found dirt filled into one of her suitcases. As I was in charge of the luggage it cost me my job." I reply.
"You don't strike me as that type of a person. Why did you do it?" William asks.
I say the same thing for what seems to be the hundreth time that day. "I didn't do it! I know that I was in charge of the luggage and I take the blame for the spoiled luggage. But I do not take responsibility for doing it!"
"I thought so too."
It takes me a minute to catch up to what he just said. When I'm finally able to speak again, I blurt out. "What? You agree with me?"
He nods his head. This makes me feel some what at ease. It's could to know that someone knows that you're speaking the truth when everyone else doesn't believe you.
He walks up to the edge and leans over it. I go stand beside him.
All of a sudden he says. "I know who did it."
This takes me by surpise. "You...You do?" He nods his head and says. "Mason and Thalia (Mrs. Blake) did."
It all fits in perfectly.
I refused Mason so he had a perfectly valid reason to do this and as for Mrs. Blake she'd always been looking for something to blame on me, in order to get rid of me. It was also her own luggage so they could've easily done it!
"But no one's going to believe it." I finally say out loud.
"True." He says and then stares out towards the water.
I can see that he's not alright. Some thing's emotionally wrong.
"You can tell me whatever's bothering you." I tell him.
He does not say anything for a seconds but then says. "Ashley."
"What about her?"
He chooses his words carefully. "It's just that over the time I've come to realize that she's not interested in me but just my title and money. I'm willing to give up everything I have for someone I love and loves me back."
Hearing him say this makes my heart ache.
He's the type of guy that every girl wants and I do too. He's willing to sacrifice his life for her and she doesn't even care. Selfish bitch!
"You're really different from Mason." I say.
"Of course we are."
"What do you mean?" I ask confused.
"You don't have a clue do you?" He asks. I shake my head.
"Mason and I aren't actual brothers. We're step brothers. The kings's my biological father and the queen is his biological mother."
"I didn't know this ." Which is the truth.
I want someone like William in my life. Everyone does but there aren't so many such people out there :(
