ransom (42)
"I'll be right back." I tell Helen and then start walking towards William's office.
As the crowd starts to thin, the presence of the men following me becomes more and more nerve wrecking.
When I round the corner, I wish I hadn't. There is no one here. I'm on my own. I pick up my pace and start to walk towards a door which I know leads to the fire exit.
But before I can open the door, an arm reaches out and makes me whip around only to find a gun pointed at my face.
I suck in a breath and start to back away but there is someone else behind me.
"Listen to us and we won't hurt you." Simon says and grabs hold of my harm.
The gun scares me, so I let him drag me along while Mason walks behind us with the gun probing my back. They take me to the roof and make me stand with my back the edge.
"How do you know each other?" I ask them.
"We're old friends. From high school." Mason replies, as he puts away the gun.
"What do you guys want?" I ask them, feeling slightly braver with the gun out of sight.
"We tried acquiring your help when both of us tried to get you but you pushed us both away. This left us with no choice."
"But why do you need me?" I ask, confused.
"You're really stupid." He says. "We don't need you, we need William and as we all know he has feelings for you. You're the best shot we have at getting him."
Then it clicks into place.
They're not after William. They're after the crown!
"I'm sorry. But how exactly are you going to do that?" I ask them.
They look at each other and then with smirks on their faces, they reply. "This might sound old fashioned but we're going to hold you for ransom."
I laugh at this. "You think it's going to be this easy to make someone give up his title?"
"Some people are ready to do bizarre things for their love." Simon says.
"No way, will you be able to get away with this. Someone is bound to see us when we leave." I try to sound brave.
"No they won't."
Almost on cue a slight whirring sound reaches my ears. In no time a helicopter appears over our heads. With the same pace it starts to descend.
When the door to the cockpit opens, I expect commandos in black jumpsuits to get out. But the pilot is Thalia Blake!
"Thought you'd seen the last of me?" She asks.
"How can you do this?" I ask her, more enraged than scared.
"It's all a matter of priorities." With this someone clamps a cloth over my nose which makes me black out.
The last thing I remember is the helicopter taking off.
