‡Chapter 7 - Frey' Monstratosei‡
"I think you know you've found someone special when you meet them for the first time, and it feels like you're just picking up where you left off. You look at them and think, "Where have you been?" - Caitlyn Siehl
Alex Pettyfer as Regan Grimoire :) ^^^^ (♥○♥) Oh my....
I found Delilah and asked her where Dianne might possibly be.
"She went to town to buy something she said was important."
"What was it?" I asked. She was in town, no wonder I haven't seen her. She must've left early in the morning for the long travel. It was a thirty minute ride from here to town, an hour on foot.
"She, um, didn't say... I'm not really sure Eli." She went on to stirring her pot of soup, still in the fire.
"I see"
I guess I'll just have to wait for her then.
The question now was, what do I do in my spare time? I know, I whispered mentally as a thought came to mind, Dianne's book. The only book I had concerning monsters. Well, the only book I had, period.
I went straight to my room, excitement powering my every step. There was not much to do since I finished all the tasks given to me, personally, by Dianne. She said I could take a break if, and only if, I finish all my work. So this my friend, is a hard earned free time. So a wisely-spent, free-time this shall be.
Scanning the table of contents, my eyes landed on the Lycans. These creatures are truly magnificent. I find the idea of changing into another creature amusing, much more if wolves. Wolves are such mysterious creatures to observe. I kept in mind the page number and flipped through the book until I found it.

The Lycans (Werewolves, Shape-shifters) are the direct descendants of the Frey line. The Frey bloodline was believed to be blessed by Artemis, the Moon goddess herself, to balance out their cursed comrades, the blood thirsty creatures known as the Vlads.(Vampires, Bloodhounds).
For centuries the Lycans have been in war with the Vlads, seeking revenge for their fallen comrades. On rare occasions though, they kill for the balance they have been entrusted with by the goddess.
The next page showed a half man, half wolf, holding a head in between its jaws, eyes rolled completely behind its head as it was decapitated from the body. The moon was bright behind the creature's back, making the picture look much more sinister than it really was.
I could imagine it dropping the head and howling at the moon, claiming its victory.
Such magnificent creatures.
How to kill a Lycan.
Vlad Venom. Silver weaponry.
It costs, but it's worth your life.
I stared at the image again. It started moving. I felt like I was there, the tree behind the whole scene.
Oakwood, I was there.
There's something behind me. I know it wasn't human so I started running. Call me paranoid but, I'd rather be paranoid than end up a lifeless corpse.
Reports around town had confirmed several animal attacks resulting to death, but I knew no animal can do such damage.
There was something else out there, something else entirely different.
It's getting nearer. I could hear heavy footsteps sounding near me.
I can see my family's house in the distance. Just a few more yards and I'll be safe.
I'm getting tired, my legs burning with increased effort. But then, I know the moment I stop running, I'm as good as dead.
I can't help the tears that were forming in my eyes. They blurred my vision but I kept on running. A growl emanated from my back.
I can feel it breathing behind me, hot against the coldness of fear upon my skin.
I can't make it.
No, I mustn't give up.
For Juniel, Michael, papa, mama.
I'm sorry if I can't tell you how much I love you. I hope the heavens would hear me and send my words to you.
By this time I was ready to die. I closed my eyes and waited for the creature to enclose its snares upon me.
"So close" I whispered "so close...."
A tear slid down my face.
It never came. I crashed to the ground in exhaustion, unable to run any further. My home
Regaining my balance, I looked back and saw that the creature was, indeed, a gigantic wolf-like beast, but my attention shifted from the creature to the man on par with the beast's blows. It matched the creature's strength, scratching and throwing, landing punches to its body. My house was only a few meters away, my mind screaming at me to leave the scene and seek the comforts of my home.
I didn't pay it any attention.
How could he-
Our eyes met and the world stopped. It was like time slowed down.
Then everything suddenly went back.
He looked at me with sincerity and uncertainty while his hands were busy protecting himself from the creature's jaws.
"What are you waiting for!!!!!" he had demanded.
I stood frozen in my spot.
Then everything clicked.
I started running towards our house. But something stopped me in my tracks. I stopped and hid behind the tree, only a few feet away from our home.
My supposedly safe haven.
I needed to see him. I needed to know if he was safe.
I wanted him safe.
They were neck to neck, I could barely watch the whole scene. He landed a kick to the creature's hind leg, it cracked and it whimpered in pain. I went around from my hiding spot, struggling to have a good view.
He whipped his face in my direction. For the second time, our eyes met. The creature's paw slowly swiped at him.
He was still staring. He held my stare, longer than necessary, seeming to be enthralled more than he ever was about something. Even more than I am to him.....
I screamed.
But it was too late, my hand went to my mouth as I struggled to keep the bile from rising in my throat.
He smiled a sweet smile before the other creature had put an end to his existence. And I was the last to see it.
I was the reason he was dead.
My legs gave out and I crashed into the cold ground. My back hit the trunk of the tree and my head lowered. I looked up tearfully and saw the moon was as beautiful as ever. How could something be so bright among something so dark?
Tears were falling from my eye, but I was helpless in stopping them.
It was my fault he died. If I hadn't-
If I just heed his demand, then he would have been alive!
I was such a fool! I shall wait here and accept my fate. I could not live to endure the pain of losing someone who I've known for a second and lost the minute after. I knew I was his when our eyes met.
His eyes sparkled like emeralds in the light of the bright moon.
My chest hurts. The pain of losing him is unbearable.
I lost my life after holding it for a mere second, and it's my entire fault.
I could never forgive myself, not after losing the person that meant the world.
I had returned to my room. I can feel something wet in my cheeks. Tears?
Was that me? I'm confused.
How could it be my fault?
"How could I-"
"Eli? Eli darling?" it was Dianne "I heard you were looking for me? I'm sorry Eli. I didn't have time to tell you, I had errands to run today I- Were you crying?" she went immediately to my side, cupping my face gently with her hands, examining my face.
"No I-" I was shaking my head frantically.
"Don't give me that nonsense. Why were you crying?" she demanded.
"I don't know," I heaved up a sigh. "I honestly have no idea Dianne. One minute I was reading, the next I was," my eyes landed on the image.
"crying" my lips pressed in a tight line.
"The Book?" she frowned "the one that I handed to you?"
I just nodded weakly.
"Well I- I suppose you got carried away with your reading then?" she looked unsure, almost afraid.
I nodded again. I don't want to worry Dianne any further.
She offered me a faint smile, but even then I knew, she was trying to hide something. "Okay then." She said dismissively "I have errands to run." she grabbed the door knob.
"Wait Dianne!" I grabbed her dress lace.
"Yes Eli?"
"Where did you buy the book Dianne?"
"I- I didn't." she confessed sheepily. She looked unsure whether to continue or not, but I sat unblinking, waiting for her to continue. "It was a gift from the young master after I told him it was your eighteenth birthday, the hot cakes you received for breakfast were the ones from me"
Shock was painted all over my face. "The young master is a kind fellow, he is. I was ashamed the cakes were all I could afford at the moment." I hadn't predicted this. She looked at me with a soft smile. She obviously predicted this would be my reaction if I knew. Maybe this was the cause of her reluctance to tell me.
She kissed my forehead "I should have told you sooner my dear." she stated quietly "Do you- Do you have any further questions or should I take my leave. I really have to go Elizabeth, forgive me"
"No, Dianne, thank you. But, please do send the young master my gratitude."
She smiled "Granted." and turned to leave.
"And Dianne" I said stopping her, "I would have been happy with the cakes you know"
She faced me again, a smile replacing her frown. It was a strained smile, "I know"
Then she left, a deafening silence following her absence.
