Chapter 3: The Epicest People (That's Not A Word)
I followed Nat onto an airplane to fly me somewhere I didn't know. Or care. My mind flowed with questions like, "Are my friends jealous?" and "Is Carter okay?". Nat must've noticed my distress and put a comforting hand on my shoulder.
"Hey, it'll be okay. I know, it's a lot, but trust me," she soothed. I nodded and chuckled a little. "Be smooth."
"Yeah, cause I'm real smooth," I said sarcastically. She laughed a little at my sarcasm before noticing the jet landed.
"Come on, kid. Welcome to your new home."
Apparently, I'm an Avenger now.... COOL! I've always wanted to be one, so I guess this is gonna be fun. I gollowed Nat in, staying close but not too close. If I got lost I'd totally freak.
"GUYS!" Nat screamed, getting the Avengers' attention. "This is Malila Bowne. She can control water." I did a fake salute before shaking many hands. Thor and Loki both tried to kiss my hand but with a hard glare they just shook it. Loki was smirking at me and I gave him a glance that would make any sensible man run for the hills.
"How's it going kiddo?" Iron Man asked.
"Good... I guess...." I whispered shyly. The Avengers looked me over for a little bit and I was completely embarrassed, shifting around.
"Alright. Let's go finish the movie," Clint chuckled, going to collapse on the couch. I was last in there, and when I arrived, all the seats were taken. I silently sat down on a comfortable spot on the floor. I couldn't see the screen anyway, it was too blurry without my glasses.
"Dammit! We already lost her!" Tony looked around.
"No, I'm here," I mumbled from the floor. Loki jumped in surprise and I smirked softly. "You guys were on the couches so I just sat on the floor. I can't see the screen anyway. I broke my glasses."
Steve shifted so that he didn't have his legs across the entire couch. I pulled myself beside Thor and Steve, feeling small, and put one knee on my chest while the other fell to the side. We continued to watch the Oujia Experiment.
During the movie, I could feel Thor and Steve jumping all around me, causing me to bounce on the sofa. When the movie was over, I slightly chuckled at Loki's face.
"It wasn't that bad. Carter and I watched it at 2 a.m. on Halloween. When Jackson scared us he had new bruises," I smiled softly at myself. The Avengers shrugged and went off to do their own thing. I stood up and started enjoy a nice walk around the tower. I finally got hungry and went to go get food, but I was so lost.
"Did I go this way?.... no.... this way! No....." I turned in circles before seeing Bruce. "Hey!"
"Oh yeah, Malila," Bruce smiled and walked over to me.
"I'm lost," I mumbled in embarrassment.
"We were looking for you anyway. We're going out to get pizza to celebrate!" Bruce led me back to the elevator. "It's time to get to know you."
~~~
When we arrived at the pizza place, I looked around slightly. I remembered the place as the first place Jackson, Carter and I went when we became friends. I miss them so much.
"Hey kid, it's your party, enjoy it!" Tony pushed my shoulder. I put on a smile for them before finding a seat and sitting down near the wall. Thor slid in beside me and I was extremely uncomfortable with the god so close. He reminded me of the 10th graders at school when they passed me in the hallways. I felt threatened.
"Could you scoot over a little Thor?" I asked quietly. The god obviously didn't hear me, but Loki did.
"Scoot over, you idiot, you're crushing the child," he rolled his eyes. I nodded a thanks to him before asking seeing my waitress friend walk down.
"Hello my name is-"
"Skippy!" I smiled. She turned to me and grinned. "I'm trapped."
"Heya Ninja," she grinned. I chuckled at the nickname. Her real name was Gracie, but I had called her Skippy after the first week we met. "Whatcha doing here?"
"I was told to join them," I said. "That is literally all I know. And that I can control water."
"I knew there was something off about you," she said. "Anyway, same drink?"
"Yeah," I replied. The Avengers ordered their drinks and she walked off to get them.
"Skippy?" Clint asked.
"Her real name is Gracie, but I call her Skippy," I answered. "Long story that I don't even remember."
"She called you ninja?" Bruce asked.
"Yeah," I said. "I was always sneaking off without getting caught, so I became known as 'the hallway ninja'."
"Cool," Steve said.
"Thanks," I pulled my buzzing phone out of my pocket and saw myself getting a text from Carter. It did take a little while to read without glasses, but I managed.
C- 'How's it going Mali?'
M- 'Good, good. At party ttyl.'
C- 'K. Ily ttyl.'
I didn't realize Thor was reading over my shoulder until it was too late. "Who's Carter?"
"Friend," I half-lied.
"What does-"
"I would rather not talk about it," I said politely, on the verge of breaking.
"But I-"
"Thor, I swear to everything that is holy, I said no," I growled, most of the water in the pizza resteraunt starting to boil. I took a breath and my eyes stopped glowing blue, causing the water to stop boiling.
"Easy, kid," Tony said. I really wanted to keep my realationship status a secret.
"Stay out of my business, Thor," I ordered. Thor looked at his drink and shrugged before sipping it. Loki rolled his eyes.
Skippy came back with the pizza, and I smiled. "Thanks, Skippy," I said. She nodded and walked off to help around the shop. We dug in and I just ate silently while the others chatted and laughed. I was very quiet most of the time.
"Hey kid, you alive?" Tony asked. I looked up and nodded. I enjoyed thinking about other worlds. Ones where I could be normal.
"Yeah, just.... thinking," I rubbed my eyes. I also had a headache from the strain on my eyes. "Do you guys have anywhere to buy glasses?"
"Yeah. I'll take you after the party," he said.
"Cool," I mumbled, finishing my pizza. "So. What do you guys do-" they were already in their own conversations. "-for fun," I slumped back in the booth. "I knew it was gonna end up like this. No one likes me anyway but Skippy, Jackson and Carter."
"That's two more people than me," Loki said. "I don't mind chatting with you. Those idiots don't understand anything."
"I'm a good listener," I promised.
"Do you have to do it a lot?" Loki asked.
"Yeah," I said. "No one is willing to listen to me but Carter. I just shut my mouth and move on. Life, I guess."
"Being young sucks," he agreed. I laughed softly. Everyone tells me the god of mischief was bad and not to go near him, but right now he was the nicest person ever. "I should know."
"Yeah. I'm the youngest in my class. By one day. You'd think they'd be more mature, but no. I'm the friggin punching bag," I sipped my cherry coke. "Do you even eat pizza?"
"Too greasy," he said. "I'd rather eat normal food."
"Pizza's good. So is soup. I like soup," I was dead serious about that as I stared off into the distance. "Soup is good."
Loki chuckled. "I thought I was weird."
"You haven't even met me," I laughed. "I watch Doctor Who and Supernatural. I'm a full on nerd."
"You don't act like one," Loki said.
"Aww, Loki, that's sweet, but don't lie," I said.
"Seriously, you don't act like a nerd. I should know," he nodded to Bruce and I laughed lightly.
"Anyway," I said. "Do you watch any shows?"
"I just started watching Flash," he said.
"Me too!" I smiled. "I was hooked after the first episode. Totally bingewatching it."
"What?"
"It means watching it all at one time. I have no life," I chuckled. "I literally have three things on my bucket list."
"And what are those?"
"Meet Jenson Ackles. Hug Misha Collins, and get a piggyback ride from Jared Padalecki," I said. "Have you seen him he's as tall as a freaking door!"
"You're exaggerating a little there- I was wrong," I showed him a picture. "Damn."
"I know. He's tall as crap!" I said. "Dead serious."
"What are you talking about?" Steve asked.
"Supernatural and Flash," I said. He rolled his eyes. "Shut up I'm addicted."
"Loki... are you talking to her?" Tony seemed surprised.
"Yes. Unlike you," I answered. "I asked a question and no one listens. Same as school."
"Sorry kiddo," Bruce said.
"I don't mind. I hate attention, I just want my questions to be answered," my phone buzzed. It was from Jackson.
J- 'Where are your glasses?'
M- 'I'm getting new ones cause my old ones are broke.'
J- 'You suck.'
M- 'No it's totally fine cause you swallow.'
J- 'I hate you.'
M- 'I know. I love you too. Ttyl.'
I clicked my phone off and felt a presence at my shoulder. "Thor, I swear to God."
"What?"
"I will punch you."
"You're nothing but a little t-" he was cut off when I slapped him. It was then, when he glared at me, that I realized I was trapped. I felt like the little bullied girl, like I was before Carter and Jackson. I shrunk against the back wall and flinched at every move of Thor. I wiped my eyes quickly, and tried to stop shaking, but I was so scared I couldn't stop.
"I'm so sorry! I lost control! Please don't hurt me! I'm sorry! It won't happen again! Don't hurt me please!" I pulled my knees to my chest to protect my stomach, where most people went. Thor tilted his head in pity. "I'm s-sorry T-T-Thor."
Thor held up his hands and Natasha squinted her eyes. "I will not hurt you. I'm sorry for invading your privacy."
I was too busy trying to get away to care. I was freaking out.
"Damn it she's having a panic attack. Trade with me Thor!" Steve jumped to where Thor was and backed up to give me space. "Hey, hey, easy, kid. Meet my eyes. Calm down. I'm here. Shh," he soothed. "Deep breaths."
I took deep breaths and Steve got a little closer. I allowed him to wrap his arms around me as I tried to calm down. "That's it Malila."
"I'm sorry. I'm so weak.... I shouldn't be an Avenger," I said into his shoulder.
"Don't say that. You just had a moment. What caused it?" He asked.
I wanted to prove I was strong, and that I could remember my past. "Flashback. I remembered the times when bullies beat me until I passed out, and the beat me more. I haven't had that happen since Carter or Jackson, but I do have spells like this. It hasn't happened in what feels like forever," I said. "I'm so sorry."
"Stop saying that. It's fine. Stark, wanna take her to get her glasses?" Steve asked. Tony nodded and I stood up. I nodded to Skippy, who smiled, and sat down next to Stark in his car. That was so embarrassing.
"Don't be embarrassed kid. In the next week you'll end up seeing Thor tickle Loki, Natasha kick ass, Clint falling from air vents, and so much more. I have panic attacks too," Tony promised.
"Wait. Loki's ticklish?" That was the only thing I really cared about.
"If you tickle his ribs he goes ballistic."
"Good to know?" I asked before staring out my window. "This is weird."
"What?"
"You, Avengers, Loki, this! My whole life I've been either hated or bullied until I met Carter. Then we never left each other's side. Thick and thin," I said. "I'm not used to be around so many people."
"Well, welcome to your new family kid."
I smiled and placed my head on the window. Maybe this won't be so bad.
Once we got to the eye glasses place, I saw my eye doctor doing paperwork.
"Hey Doc," I called. He looked up and smiled.
"Hey Malila," he replied. "Where's your glasses?"
"Broken. Can I get a similiar pair?"
"Sure thing. Here," he said. Tony payed the man and I said good bye to the desk lady. Maybe this won't be so bad.
Alright I know I haven't been updating anything but I'm working on some drafts that I think you guys will like. byyeeee
