Chapter 4
"Ronin, don't touch anything." Doctor Weis told me when I entered the room. She was my age, but sounded like a mother.
There was a sign on the door that has every hazard sign on it, with caution.
"Oh boy, what did we get ourselves into. Ronin, catch!" Cody tossed me his favourite bandanna, it was black and white. I tied it around my head and the doctor chuckled when she saw me.
"No joke, you look like a good looking terrorist. I'd be fooled if you walked in the enemy's camp." Doctor Weis laughed, I put a thumbs up. While the others gave me a smirk.
I could understand why Grayson gave me the bandanna because of what could be in the air.
Ambros stayed back at the base to watch over the one guy.
We rushed up the stairs, the area was cleared. We knew that this doctor has never tested on chemical shit, that is held here.
I jumped down through the broken floor, the others followed. Then suddenly we came to a hallway. Then suddenly my heart stopped for a second and I gasped, something that was black and orange ran by quickly.
"Shit." I mumbled a little stunned. What the heck was that?!
I silently turned the corner, highly on alert. My heart was beating fast. Then suddenly it jumped down from the ceiling tile and behind the cage wall, that was blocking us from going any further.
Peirs tried to shoot whatever the thing was. It had three talons on each hand. And it's skin was a sickly, human skin colour. It had six gold looking eyes, while it's skin bubbled. It was the size of a man, but didn't look human. Peirs bullets deflected off the cage. The thing turned the other way and went through the door behind it. It was diffidently a threat, the way it yelled at us told it all.
What if there is more? Or is it looking for another way to get to us? We had to stay alert.
We ran into a room with a chalkboard. It had no other doors. All of a sudden the wall broke through and the thing got through. I started to shoot at it, taking it down.
"We didn't know if it was harmless!" Doctor Weis yelled.
"I wasn't going to wait to find out." I replied, then bent my head to go through the hole in the wall to the other room.
"Man, what is wrong with those things." Somers said in a worried tone, with a hint of frustration.
The room we went into was a washroom for employee's.
"Those things are called Xenos. A congenital form of encephalitis." I was in shock, she knew about this?
"Wait! You knew about this, who else knows?" Somers asked, he was shocked as much as I.
"I can't say anymore, so do not ask." Doctor Weis tried to save herself. I noticed how smashed up the bathroom was. Mirrors all smashed, pipes broken in the stalls.
Another one of those creatures came through the door. A few rounds took out the thing.
We went into another research room. The room was trashed and destroyed. Two more of those things jumped out of nowhere. They run like animals, I noticed. Somers took out one while I took out the one closest to the door. Suddenly the one that was on the ground got up! I tried to shoot, but was out of bullets. It tackled me to the ground effortlessly. I tried to keep it's face away from me. But it's talon striked into my left arm, taring it wide open. I yelled in fury, the pain overwhelmed me as well. The thing was forty pounds heavier than I. I fought to get this thing away from my throat.
"Get this fucker off!!!" I yelled, I knew the others were dealing with more of them. Somers quickly caught on what was going on. He quickly shot at the thing on me. I rolled the thing off of me when the fight was over. Blood oozed out of my arm. Hot crimson started to pool on the ground.
"Ronin!" Doctor Weis yelled, she helped me sit up while I put pressure on my arm with my hand.
"Shit that does not look good!" Grayson yelled. Grayson bit his knuckle and looked away for a moment.
"Thankfully I have a bit of medical supplies, just not alcohol."
Peirs tossed over the flask. I guess that was all we had left.
I took off the long sleeve shirt, thankfully I had a t-shirt underneath. I bit my lip, the gash hurt so bad. It felt like gravel scraped against it. The smell of iron started to fill my nostrils making me gag. Doctor Weis quickly poured the alcohol on my gash in my arm. I hissed at the stinging to the alcohol, it made me yell for a second.
"No worries, stay tough, Ronin." Somers tried to comfort me. The stinging stopped and doctor Weis applied pressure and a bandage. I quickly put back on my other shirt. I feel extremely violated if I only have one shirt on at the moment. I quickly stood up, but my arm started to sting.
Somers grabbed my arm and helped me up. I could hardly bend my left arm. That was a problem because I couldn't hold my gun properly.
"You'll need immediate stitches later." Weis commented. Somers passed me a couple hand guns. I placed the strap of my gun over my head and onto my back.
"This might take a while, Doc." Grayson commented, while the Commander looked at me with disappointment. I didn't understand why I was being treated like this by him. He has been acting strange all day.
The Commander sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Alright, Somers stay close to her side during this mission."
"Roger that." Somers commented. I smirked because I noticed a sunburn on the side of his neck, it was red and noticeable on his pale skin.
We quickly walked through the next hallway down, and managed to get outside. I suddenly spotted the bunker. It was shaded under a tarp and was guarded by two men. It was a simple task to take them out. Peirs went behind one and took him out. While Somers took out the other one.
The door was steel enforced. It was impossible to open.
The steel was weak on the outer edges.
"Try the sides of it." I suggested, and Somers looked like he had an idea.
He placed a bomb on the side. He quickly ran back, we all followed his lead. The steel exploded off and we were able to get inside. I was surprised no one was here, there were endless halls of chemistry. We took a couple turns of the hallway and suddenly came to a broken metal staircase.
I jumped down, I broke my fall with one of my knees. I took a second to stand up.
Grayson started to work on the steel door, with some type of tool that melts steel.
He managed to get it open. The room on the other side looked untouched. The room was infested with bugs and cobwebs. There was something here, and why was the place locked up?
Then two more Xenos came out. Doctor Weis and Peirs took out the next two.
"How much further?" I asked, I could smell the mold from this place. The smell made me cringe.
"The bomb is just below us." She replied, I sighed. My legs were starting to ache.
Doctor Weis quickly went to the control panel and managed to break the code. The shutters started to rise. There was a huge floating crystal in the middle of the room. We took the exit on the right hand side.
"What is that?" I questioned, I was deeply concerned, why it hovered in the air.
"Our objective." She simply said then added something a second I stepped through the doorway.
"Keep your distance, Ronin." She added, I saw something lying in the corner. I wasn't interested in the crystal at the moment. There was an alien skeleton that had jet black coloured bones. The alien skeleton held something close to his chest. I took whatever it was out of its arms. It was a sword. The metal was not Earth made metal. I took it out of its sheath and examined the blade, with two hands.
"What did you find?" Grayson questioned and then I showed it to him.
"Interesting, a blade that was an aliens weapon. I guess you can use that until we get more ammo." Grayson chuckled and patted me on the back. I walked over to the crystal. Grayson didn't seem to feel the best staying around it. He stood next to the elevator.
I gently touched the crystal.
Suddenly a blinding flash was made and it looked like a shadow's hands on glass. I suddenly yelled, then heard the others start to cough. It was like my lungs were closing. My eyes closed and I fell backwards. It was like I became unconscious. I could see myself travelling down my veins. It was like spirals of DNA I could see. Then everything went black for a moment.
"Ronin is down, we have to get out of here. Now, I've got her." Doctor Weis started to cough.
"Open the gates to the elevator!" She told Grayson. The doors opened and I felt myself start to wake up. I felt myself being dragged.
I suddenly was blinded nearly by her flashlight. She checked my sight, I knew I was fine. But then I saw Peirs and Somers still in the room with the crystal.
"Peirs wake up!!!" Somers yelled trying to wake Peirs up. He was out cold on the floor.
"Somers behind you!" Doctor Weis yelled. Suddenly these different looking Xenos came out. They looked half bug, but had a hammerhead.
"Wait! We need to help them!" I yelled trying to get up. I suddenly yelled then clutched onto my leg. It had a big gash in it. How was this possible?! It must have been the blade I had!
I yelled in agony as Weis shut the door leaving the two.
"WAIT! No! Open the gates! We can't leave them!" I yelled, feeling a tear slip from my eye.
"Ronin, you are losing too much blood. Try to stay with us!" Doctor Weis yelled. I couldn't believe they were gone. My vision started to blur, my ears started to ring. I started to hear things in my head that were not a human language.
"Somers." I mumbled before I felt myself drift from consciousness.
