Chapter 3

"Grayson, don't set the word until Peirs makes the call." Somers said, he wiped the sweat off his forehead from the fall. My cheeks kept burning from the recent moment. Thankfully he didn't notice. But I can't fall in love, because I'll just lose him.

I can't show anything that might be considered weakness.

Thankfully getting across the bridge was easy. There was no enemy on the other side.

"When ready, Peirs." Cody suggested, Peirs quickly took the turret on one of the towers.

Peirs clicked the button.

......

Nothing happened. I kept watch across the bridge and I saw some dust roll up. Oh shit, they were coming in fast.

Two vehicles smashed through the fence on the other side of the bridge. Peirs started to take out one by one. First he took out one of the drivers. I took out the next. Then we started to work on taking out the rest of them that exited the convoy.

"So much for your text." Somers sarcastically commented making Grayson growl with annoyance.

Then suddenly the explosives went off on the bridges that we planted earlier.

A loud sound went off and the bridge crumbled. There were even a few trucks that came in late. They hit the brakes but went into the canyon.

I smirked seeing that they hit the brakes too late. The chopper suddenly came in and lowered a vehicle for us. I took shotgun.

Somers took the drivers, while Cody took the turret in the back.

I placed my forehead on the dash for a moment while Peirs got in the back seat.

"You alright up there?" Peirs asked, I put a thumbs up.

"Just tired and dehydrated." I said with a sigh. Peirs passed me a silver flask from the back. Then placed his arms behind his brown hair. I was hoping this was water. I took a drink and it stung my throat. I started to cough and Peirs and Somers started to laugh.

"I don't expect the best, but this will just make me even more thirsty." I chuckled, taking one more swig then passing it back.

The road up ahead was blocked, we managed to go off road. The windshield smashed, from the on coming bullets. We took the wrong turn twice, nearly got shot with a torpedo gun. And I was thankful I kept my head down this whole time. There were multiple chases with vehicles and we nearly crashed twice into the sand or an electrical post. But I was glad we finally made it to the base. Cody insisted we changed the driver, Somers and Peirs both exchanged spots. While Cody took the wheel. He was the one who made the wrong turns twice. Sometimes this makes me feel like I want to drive in this situation.

We finally got to the quiet base, it was an empty looking town. The head of a metal statue was torn off. While there was a lot of blood that mixed with the sands.

This place was a suspected base of chemical weaponry. Doctor Weis was diffidently here.

Grayson started to shout where Peirs jabbed him in the ribs to shut up. I didn't like the feel of this place, not at all.

We quickly went into the building and up the stairs. Suddenly when we found the doctor and Ambros, this other man started freaking out.

"Calm down guys." She told us as we lowered our guns.

"He's from the village."

"And this is where he makes his weapons?" Cody asks, while Doctor Weis shook her head. She was putting in something on her computer. There was also a stethoscope on the desk.

"Relax, he is just frightened. His village was bombed a few days ago."

"And you're a Soldier?" Cody asked sarcastically. The doctor laughed and sarcastically answered back.

"No, I'm a terrorist." She answered sarcastically, then suddenly stared at me.

"How much do each of you weigh?"

"199." Cody answered.

"190" Somers answered.

"160." I answered quietly. She stared at me for a moment then shrugged. My weight has spread out since I was 5'8.

I assume Ambros was the African American soldier here, that has been protecting Noa Weis. He looked nice enough.

"This is Noa Weis, our translator and medic."

"I'm sorry, but I was informed there would be three of you. Just not the female soldier here."

"I get that a lot. No worries, doc."

"No! It is a big worry for me, because I only made three classified Vaccines. Since she is smaller than the three of you men. The virus may attack her first." She said in a worried tone.

I looked down and mumbled "Crap. No worries I'll be fine."

"How long will it take for you to make the fourth?" Grayson asked in a bit of an aggressive tone.

"One month, but I do not have the resources to make the fourth." She said, making my gut twist. What was this virus anyways?! We have dealt with many viruses, they say this one is the worst.

Doctor Weis took a needle and injected it into the three men's right arm.

"Don't tell me she is going with us." Cody rolled his eyes in frustration.

"What makes it any different that you guys only have one female on your team!" Ambros yelled.

"The difference is that Ronin won't get us killed-"

"Very unique name, but she isn't one. A Ronin is a warrior that follows no master. Which doctor Weis is a translator and she may help you guys get connections."

"Zip it Ambros, I will not hesitate to pull the trigger." I threaten, surprising each of them.

"Ronin, please do not cause anything." Peirs barked an order. I kept my mouth shut, but I was frustrated. Ambros just insulted me and doctor Weis and no one said anything.

Somers gave me a look. The look was a code between us that it will be alright.

Ambros showed us the plan on how to get in. We were going to sneak into the bunker. Suddenly the guy that was traumatised started to talk in a different language.

"What's the problem?" Somers questions the man on the floor. He sensed the worry in the man's voice.

"He is talking about the bunker. He says that the devil lives there-" Doctor Weis translated for us, but Somers interrupted her.

"Tell him, that's why we are here." Somers was a little impatient at the moment.

"Alright, let's get moving." I suggested, they all gave me a nod. We exited through the side door that was across the room. I had to admit this place was a dump and was trashed.

The sun was less harsh now since it was almost the end of the day.

The village was quiet, no sound besides the whistling wind. I could hear my heart beating how quiet it was. We went into another building that looked dark. The door was stained a crimson colour. Peirs broke down the door while doctor Weis caught up next to me.

"Hey, I'm sorry for insulting you earlier. I just needed you guys to understand if I would of just knew-"

"It's fine, it's just the name thing. My parents were proud to give me that name. It was the last thing I owned from them. And that story is for another time..." She placed her hand on my shoulder and gave me a nod.

"If you ever need someone to talk to. I make a good psychiatrist, I noticed your tremor from earlier. Something bad must happen where it stays with you." I raised an eyebrow. How did she know?

"I'd like that, when the mission is over." I whispered to her. Cody raised an eyebrow when he looked back, over his shoulder.

"What are you girls talking about?" Grayson's gravelly voice sounded loud when he asked.

"Nothing you need to know about. She probably hasn't talked to any females on your team for a while. Since there is an indication that she is the only female on your team." She said in a Spanish voice. Doctor Weis was shorter than I, and she had short, scruffy, hair that was darker coloured. She also had a bit of a tan.

"We are also going to need to treat that sunburn, on your neck, Ronin." She kindly said. Suddenly when Peirs managed to break down the door there was a blood trail. Multiple medical beds were lazily lined up. Blue tarps were lined up as well with blood splatters on them. That made my stomach churn.
