Chapter 2
"Take em out, Echo Squad." The Commander ordered. The four of us rushed out of the convo and took cover. We took cover behind a concrete road blocker. I jumped up and shot at them. I took two of them out. Somer's took out the next two. One of them fell face forward and into the sand. Their blood mixed with the sand. The wind started to pick up where the sand started to blind us.
A few shots were heard, but we couldn't see where it was coming from. Then I saw a gleam from a scope. The enemy layed on top of the overpass, twelve'o'clock.
"Sniper, twelve'o'clock. Ronin, take him out." Peirs ordered, I had a clear shot. I aimed and had a steady breath. I exhaled the same time as pulling the trigger.
The bullet went through the sniper's scope. It hit him spot on in his left eye. The sniper's body rolled off the edge, while my team was cheering.
I smiled when the two were shocked at my sharp shooting.
More shots started to go off. This wasn't the end, they must have called back up.
"Damn it there goes our driver, let's find that safe house." Cody yelled. I looked back for a moment and saw blood all over the windshield of our convo. I felt bad about the driver for a moment.
"Eagle, this is Echo Squad. Damn it, this canyon is blocking our signal." Somers said, taking a risk by jumping to cover where I was. I jumped up and aimed for the one guy in the watchtower.
"The radio tower, up over that overpass may be our best chance." I replied to Somers.
"Good eye, Ronin." He responded, then both Cody and Peirs jumped up and engaged.
I followed behind them taking out a few at a time.
"Remember the rules of engagement, Grayson! None of that jog way bullshit." Somers corrected Grayson for the mistakes he made in the past. I remember the exact moment. Grayson barely made it out alive, last time.
I hid behind an armoured vehicle. I peeked around the corner nearly getting sniped out.
I hid my head back and kept a corner cover. We had to get past the two lined up towers. To me the towers looked sloppy. I pulled out a grenade and pulled the pin. I tossed it over and watched carefully. With a small explosion it took out one of the towers. Successfully taking out one of the towers.
I pulled back the slider to my gun changing the shell out.
I took two out at a time. Peirs tossed a grenade at the two soldiers. Hitting them on with a massive explosion.
"Ronin! Behind you!" I didn't have enough time to react to what just happened. I quickly turned around, but suddenly a hole went through his forehead. Blood splashed onto my face. I widened my eyes, that was a close one.
I looked over my shoulder at Somers and gave him a nod, as a thank you. Behind the two wooden towers was a narrow path. There were electrical lines and a telephone line. Where there's electricity, there is a: safe house.
I wiped the blood off with my sleeve. I was in disgust. We carefully went down the path. Cody and Peirs watched our backs. They turned every so often, making sure no one followed.
I was correct, there was a base. That must be where Doctor Weis was. Many men guarded the base. I casted a gaze to Somers and Peirs, if I should take the shot. My job was usually to take out the snipers.
I observed the ways they went. Peirs tossed me a silencer for my gun. If we were going to make it through, we had to be silent.
I put on the silencer to the end of my rifle. The gun was black and silver coloured.
Cody gave me a boost onto the rocks. I crawled on my stomach to the ledge. My breaths were slow and concentrated on finding the two snipers. I spotted one with a red hat on. Perfectly the bullet went through the man. The gun shot was silent, it sounded like firing a pellet gun.
Then I took out the next one that was crouched in the lookout tower. The body flopped over the rail and slammed onto a truck windshield. The other soldiers caught what was going on and engaged.
"Shit." I growled, cursing myself for taking the shot so soon.
"Time to take them out, Echo Squad." Peirs said through his communicator. Cody and Somers both worked together to take out the next two. Both of the soldiers stood near an armoured convoy.
I slid off of my stomach and went to join the three. My shirt was dusty from the sand, and I was sweaty as hell.
I silently jumped off the rocks, and took cover near the armoured convoy.
I rounded the corner and silently approached a guard. I threw my arm around the soldier's neck and choked him out with my elbow pressed against his throat. Cody shot the next one without a warning.
There was a sign on the outside of the door that read: "Any unauthorised persons prohibited beyond this point, will be shot without a warning."
I pointed at the door, to the three. Cody used the bud of his gun to break the lock.
Smash! The door busted open, there was no one in the room. But we suddenly heard yelling from a different language, in the other room. I took out my hand gun and shot the camera above our heads.
Cody corner covered, then rolled a grenade into the room. A sudden explosion went off, cloaking the room with smoke.
There were two desks in the room. While there were two more men. Somers and Peirs took them out, while we rounded the corner. There was a bit of cargo, a locked door and a loose pipe over our heads. The pressure broke through the pipe and sent steam out of it. I tried to ignore the sound while Cody placed a bomb onto the door.
The door went across the room and hit the guy ongoing. He yelped while the steel door fell on top of him. Somers took out one guy while the other guy tried to flee. I chased after the one that tried to escape and showed no mercy.
I shot him in the back of the knee. He yelled and crashed down the stairs he tried to climb. I made quick work of the man.
"Nice one." Cody called out. We rushed up the stairs, I took that time to change my magazine.
The hall was caged off with a metal fence. I took a turn, first one through the door. A bullet nearly hit me in the face. Inches, it missed my face. Cody growled and yelled "BIG MISTAKE PAL!!!"
Cody shot the man that nearly tried to kill me. The other one hid behind the door frame. I used the back of my gun and smashed him in the nose. Bloody poured out of his nose as he fell back.
Somers took him out, not wasting a single bullet.
We rounded the corner and there was a door to the rooftop. Doctor Weis was diffidently not here.
Peirs quickly took the turret. My eyes were trying to adjust to the light, I was light sensitive in this situation.
I took the one guy out behind the pillar. The rooftop was shaped in an 'L'. Peirs quickly get rid of the men that was on the ground level. I quickly tossed a grenade into the next room, taking one out at the window at the same time.
"Nice one, Ronin. You're on fire!" Somers complimented, I scanned my gaze for any more of them. The rest were gone. We took the next flight of stairs up. We suddenly heard more yells, they yelled in english "We surrender!" They dropped their guns and placed their hands up. I was thankful that they wanted to keep their lives. We didn't need to kill them. We walked past them and out the door.
Grayson stayed behind for a moment, to make it clear they wouldn't try anything
"You boys slap leather and you're going down." He said in his gravelly voice making them all nod.
I stared at them, they were afraid no doubt.
"Let's keep moving, Ronin." Somers said placing a hand over my back. Motioning me to get moving.
I gave him a nod and started to make my way out the door. The sun was harsh this afternoon. I was hoping to make it out of this mission and make an Ice Tea later.
Suddenly I got a signal, as well as Grayson, Peirs, and Somers.
"Echo, this is Ambrose. Do you copy?"
"Hey, it's Ambrose. Ya, it's us we have been getting technical difficulties on our end." Grayson chuckled. We walked past a fence that cut off the road and took the pathway around it.
"Connection from Weis is successful. Are you guys alright?" The guy on the other line asked.
"We are fine, just have to stay alive to get to y'all." I answered.
"Affirmative, but it might take us a while. We've been encountering some technical difficulties." Grayson replied, placing his dog tags inside his shirt.
"Alright Echo, get here as soon as possible. But watch your back, something doesn't feel right here." Suddenly gunshots went off, as we rounded the corner of the rocks.
There were two on the ground, one in a watch tower.
"Roger that, you too Ambrose." Cody answered by taking cover with Peirs. I took cover next to Somers.
"These guys really don't give up do they?!" Somers growled and tossed a grenade. I shot back at the one in the tower taking him out.
Peirs took out the next one in an engage attack, while Cody took out the next one. Blood was splattered everywhere to make anyone sick.
There were multiple towers with a single man on each of them. We took each of them out strategically.
Two men hid behind the bushes. I nearly missed them by a long shot. I took the two out before they noticed me.
"Video tower is up a head." Cody commented. I turned my head left and right. We came to the building door. It was hidden very well I had to admit.
I pointed at the door and Cody gave me a simple nod.
"Assuming breach formation."
Peirs stood next to me, while the two worked together. Somers gave Cody a nod to get moving. Cody slowly pushed the door open while Somers pulled the pin to the grenade. He tossed it gently in. Then Cody slammed the door shut as the explosion went off.
Some yelling could be heard throughout the room. We engaged when Cody started to shoot. They acted like they surrendered until one pulled out a gun. We had no choice, they were a threat. At the moment this was about survival.
"Alright, we made it, kick ass!" Cody said cheerfully. I laughed, yes thankfully we survived.
No one was hurt on this mission. Not yet of course, but it does happen.
We made it to the radio tower on the top of the building. Cody took out a high tech communicator. And Somers started to send the quartets to where we were at the moment.
"Eagle this is Echo." Somers said, waiting for a reply.
"What's your status, Echo?" The man on the other line questioned. I walked over to the gate that was closed at the moment. I kept watch, in case we were going to get ambushed again.
"Ambush in the canyon, no car, no driver. Requesting support, over." Somers requested. I took the time to count how many rounds I had left. Not enough, I had to save some shots.
The sun was harsh on my ivory skin, I was diffidently getting a sunburn today. I've already got a bad one on my neck at the moment.
"Be advice, Echo, we've been compromised. You boys are on your own."
"Boy? Has he forgot that there is a female on this team that can kick his ass?!" I yelled making Peirs and Somers both lighten up.
"Oh well that's just great, he can-" Suddenly Cody was interrupted.
"What we can do is drop a support vehicle, other than that it will be on the other side of that bridge," I stared at the partly demolished bridge that had a narrow space to get across.
"Other than that you'll need to cross it to get there. Enemy is moving into position, I suggest you three hurry up."
Three? Did this guy forget there were four of us? I felt like them thinking there were three of us, was going to result in something bad.
I pushed the gate open and looked down the hill. It wasn't far to jog there.
"Blow the bridge up, so our chopper can reach there safely." I let out a sigh.
"Alright, on it." Somers responded and Cody made a growl of frustration.
For a second I didn't watch where my footing was. The sand started to slide.
I lost my balance and slid on my back. I felt my wrist grabbed by someone, but they lost balance as well. We both went down jagged sharp rocks, I felt someone wrapped their arms around me. I kept my eyes closed and yelped every time we hit something.
Then we finally hit rock bottom where the bridge was. It was a long fall down. The person I landed on let out a wheeze.
My gun landed next to me making a loud drop sound.
I took a second to catch my breath. "Thanks Peirs-"
"Think again, Ronin." I opened my eyes seeing Somers. My face was an inch away from his.
I leaned back in surprise. "Are you guys going to kiss? We'll give your knight here a moment if so!" Peirs jokingly yelled. I pushed myself off of Somers.
"Nope, we are fine! Thanks Somers for breaking my fall." I knew I couldn't fall in love with him. I was really falling for him, but every time I have something to love. It vanishes like a fist full of sand. Just like what happened to my brother and my family. I joined Echo Squad because I had nothing left to lose.
"Hey, you alright?" I heard Somers ask. I brushed the sand off of me and gave him a nod.
Peirs and Cody followed down the rocks on a rope. They swiftly got down here.
