Everything Changes
Sarah's POV
My world was flipped upside-down and inside-out when my foster parents told me we were moving. My 'father' had lost his job and wanted to try his luck in a small town out in Texas. I had panicked and tried everything I could to get them to change their mind. Sadly that didn't help me; it's only made them confused. I've never come so close to break the number one rule, never show or tell anyone what you are.
My parents died when I was young; I don't remember much about them. Just flashes like my mother's smile, the feeling of her hair and the smile of my fathers Cologne and whispers of his deep voice. One thing I remember distinctly was the sound of my mothers screams on the night they died. That had been the first time I shifted into my wolf form, shaking in fear under my bed. My life was on the line, and I knew it, then as a young girl. Under those circumstances, caused me to change prematurely.
One of the neighbors had heard the screams and called the cops. Lucky for me I was able to return to my human form right as I listened to the front door being pushed open and yells of this is the police. They had decided that it was a robbery gone wrong and without any leads, they dropped the case.
The police had got to me first before to pack could, giving me to the humans who are ruining my life. Lucky for me, my foster parents still lived within my packs territory. So I grow up like a normal Wolfblood for 14 years of my life. Today is the first day of high school and my first day outside of my packs territory.

At first, I had hoped there wouldn't be a pack here, I would be the only Wolfblood, and I could handle that. Then the smell hit me. It was dizzying, there were so many, more than my old pack. The scent only got stronger the closer I got to the small high school.
Mom stops in front of the high school and looks over at me as I shrug on my backpack. "Hope you have a great first day of school, sweetie."
"Yeah, thanks, mom." I try to smile, but even I know it looks pained.
I'm about to close the car door when she calls out, "Sarah, at least give this place a chance."
I look back at mom and see the worry in her soft eyes. "I'll try."
The door closes, and the car disappears into the street, leaving me behind to face the small collection of brick buildings alone. Turning I picked one of the three at random and wondered inside hoping I had chosen the right one. The halls are painted a pale color with pops of red or blue as if someone tried to make the place look happier with the splashes of color. Tall lockers lined the long spaces in between the classroom doors. Though every human carries their scent, I can quickly pick out at least five different Wolfbloods from within the mess. I look down at the map and schedule in my hand and suddenly realize I can't make heads or tails from it. "God damn it," I whisper frustrated. Then someone bumps into me and the papers go fluttering to the ground and stepped on, only adding to the frustration as I drop to pick them up.
"Hey, watch it!" I growl out.
"Oh! I'm sorry," a new pair of hands helps me grab the papers. "I wasn't watching where I was going."
Once we're both standing, again she offers her hand out, "Hi, I'm Nek Chat."
I look her over as I shake her hand. She has long dark brown hair and cooper skin. She had on a black jacket with blue sleeves; it had a hood that was pulled over her head in till she ran into me. I can smell she's human but having said that she was tall. All and all very pretty for a human. "Sarah Clearwater."
Her dark eyes light up, "So you must be the new girl."
"Well yeah, I'm a freshman..."
Nek laughs, "That doesn't mean anything here, the middle school is across the street, and the elementary is down the road. So we all know each other. You're new to town!"
"Great..."
"Hey don't worry about it. I'm a freshman too, by the way, so maybe I can help you find your classes?"
"Thank you! I am so lost..." I hand over my paper for her to look over.
The ten-minute warning bell rings just as Nek states, "we have art together the first period, come on."
We walk side by side down the hall in till a girl in a hoodless gray jacket pushes between us and the Wolfblood smell suddenly becomes stronger. I was hoping she would keep walking, but then Nek stops her. "Hey Ar, this is the one girl in town."
The girl frozen her in tracks and slowly turns around to faces us. She of an athletic build, with short light brown hair that almost touches her shoulder and falls on her face. Her brown-green eyes study me from behind a pair of sleek dark purple glasses on her face. A white caged stone hangs off the black choker on her neck. Her eyes flash darkly in the fluorescent school lights before she smiles at Nek.
"New to town, but we never get new people!" her voice is higher pitch then I would have thought but not too bad.
"I know!" Nek smiles, "Sarah this is Arya, one of my best friends. Arya this is Sarah."
Arya scrunches up her nose on instinct to the unfamiliar scent of the Wolfblood. She quickly covered up the action before Nek could see by pushing up her glasses. Her voice is as stiff as her nod as she says, "Hello, nice to meet you, Sarah."
I match her stiffness with my own, "To you as well."
Nek gives the two of us a confused look, but before she could say anything had Arya turned in a whirl of hair and hurried away through the crown of other bodies with ease. My eyes watch her path until she is hidden from view. Nek sighs and my eyes drift to hers.
"Sorry about that, she must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed today. Ar is normally a friendly person."
I look back to where she disappeared, a sense of sadness fills because I know why she is and always will be cold to me. "Yeah, I bet she is..."
