Chapter 18
I would like to wish everyone a Happy thanksgiving and if you don't celebrate thanksgiving then I hope you are having a wonderful day as well. I'm thankful for all of you guys for taking time to read my books. I can't thank you all enough for all of the support I get on my books. I'd never imagine to get this far, but enough of me talking. I hope you all enjoy this chapter.
.....
"What's our plan B?"
"Do we need one?"
"Scar, at this point we need every letter of the alphabet," Aaron says. We're in his office examining a map of the mountain range where the rogue are.
"We can come in from this way," Aaron says pointing out a small pass between the mountains.
"We could, but its narrow and dangerous if the rogue sees us." I respond. We've been at this for an hour and we have yet to find a safe passage.
"Then we'll find another way," Aaron tells me. We've been at this for too long if there was a way we would have found it.
"There is no safe way, my people are going to be stuck there." I murmur.
"For crying out loud we should just dig underneath the rogue," I shout frustrated. Underneath...
"Aaron!"I exclaim a plan forming in my head.
"What?"
"We can go underneath the Rogue!" I say running to the file cabinet.
"You've finally lost it..." Aaron says slightly smiling and looking very confused.
"No, we can go underneath them." I slam the map of the mines on the table. "The old mines, we can use them to get to the rogue base."
"They're big enough to a fit a dragon and the tunnels will lead to an opening a mile out from the south side of the rogue base." Aaron remarks studying the maps with me.
"The problem is if I recall correctly the riders are located on the North side," I say pointing out the likely spot where the cave will be.
"We sneak around for as long as we can, if a fight breaks out at least we'll have surprise on our side." Aaron nods his head.
"Sounds like a plan," I state.
.....
Since I was injured I had not been back to the cove, where thanks to ember were still running smoothly. I had sent Bullet with updates on my condition since I had been away since Ember couldn't come herself. Right after we had finalized our plan I sent Bullet to inform Ember of the plan.
"Ember!" I call to her once we get to the cove. I see a flash of red enter a cavern. Aaron and I run after her.
Scarlet, you're here, I believe everyone is ready to go as well. Ember tells us once we catch up to her.
"Good we need to get moving the sun will set within the next few hours," I say expressing my worry and eagerness to get moving.
Turning around I recognize Astrid's fleet of dragons is ready to depart. There are others I don't know, warriors from other coves. Farther up ahead I see Bane ushering the twins into my old cave. I hope this goes well, the twins are counting on their parents to come back.
"I'm going to fill up our water supply. I'll be right back." Aaron tells me before taking off in the direction of the lake. Once he is out of range Ember speaks up
The dragon blood caused the change in your eyes and the formation of scales in your old burns. Ember notes.
"Yeah, other than that I seem to be mostly the same," I say looking down at my hand.
I'm glad you are well again. Ember says relieved.
"I have Aaron to thank for it."
Speaking of which, he must be crazy to come with you on this mission. Ember remarks
"If there is one thing we have in common, it's that we want to protect our people. Aaron understands me and just wants to help." I tell Ember and she nods in understanding. Ember leaves the cave to go meet with Bane. I see my armor and bow and arrows resting atop a rock. I rush over to the boulder. I've missed having my bow. I slide into the gear and hook my throwing knives to my hip. I sling my quiver of arrows around me and hold the bow in hand.
"Are we ready?" Aaron shouts at the cave entrance.
"We're ready," I yell back.
"Then let's go," Aaron says to me once I catch up to him. The dragons are all ready to leave, we walk through the fleet. Aaron seems uneasy at first but he calms down soon enough. Some dragons nod their head at me as I sign of respect, I give them a smile of acknowledgment.
"Aaron you'll ride with Ember," I say and he nods. He jogs over to Ember who was a wing extended to help him get on. Once I see that Aaron is ready, I climb on top of the nearest dragon who I recognize as Astrid's second in command.
"Let's fly," I shout and one by one we launch into the sky.
