The Sleepover to End All Sleepovers
Tomorrow morning was when we would hear about the music box. In the meantime, Marcy invited us to stay at the castle for a sleepover. Lady Olivia took us to Marcy's room. "Good evening, Master Marcy." She greeted. "Anne Boonchuy, Rowena Warbler, and the Plantars have arrived for your..." "SLEEPOVER!" We cheered. "Sleepover." She sighed as she left. "If anyone needs me, I'll be in the kitchen drinking, juice." Anne and I hugged Marcy. "This is gonna be..." Anne said. "Awesome!" Marcy squealed. "It's the perfect way to spend the night before we hear from the king." Sprig explains. "Yeah, I wonder what he found about the music box." I said. "I don't wanna give anything away, but it's gonna be pretty cool." Marcy explains. "Okay, kids, I'll be back in the morning for our meeting with the king, you enjoy yourselves." Hop Pop said. "I'm off to spend a little much needed me time, and by me time I mean a full body..." "Later, Hop Pop!" Sprig and Polly slammed the door. "Woohoo!" Polly exclaimed. "Me and Sprig's first sleepover!" "Better make it a good one, these will be formative memories." Sprig added. "Whoa, I just realized, we never did a sleepover without Sasha." Anne commented. "Oh, you're right." Marcy replied. "Do you think we can pull it off?" I asked. "Sasha's always been the sleepover queen, not us." "Who says there has to be just one queen?" Anne asked. "Everyone, that's kinda how the whole system works, Anne." Marcy replied. "Rowena, Marcy, we've done tons of sleepovers, we know everything about them." Anne explains as we started to chant. "Pajamas, junk food, and gossip galore, pillow fights, movies, and tearing up the dance floor, and listen up, because this I won't repeat, never ever go to sleep!" "Sensing some missing context here." Sprig said, confused. "Oh, sorry, Sasha always said falling asleep means total failure, a true sleepover goes till sunrise." Marcy explains. "Enough set up, let's get our sleepover on, baby!" I exclaimed as everyone else cheered.
We began a sleepover montage around the castle, although, most of the montage was spent messing with Lady Olivia. But, she had enough of our shenanigans. "Oh, for Frog's sake!" She exclaimed. "While I'm glad you kids are having fun, let me remind you that some of the castle rooms are off limits, namely the basement, which is..." Anne then sprayed her with some silly string. "Montage is back on, baby!" Anne shouted.
After finishing the montage, we were worn out on Marcy's bedroom floor. "That was awesome." Polly said. "Best sleepover ever." Sprig yawned. "See, told ya we could pull off an awesome sleepover without Sasha." Anne said. "What time is it anyway, 5am, 6am?" Marcy checked the time on her phone, which is still confusing me. "Only 9pm?!" Marcy exclaims. "What?!" I shouted. "That early?" Polly asked. "But I'm so tired." "No stay awake!" Anne screamed. "I think it's time." Marcy said. "Really, are you sure they're ready?" I asked. "Is anyone really ready, Rowena?" Marcy asked. "Ready for what?" Sprig and Polly asked. "The Scare Dare Challenge!" Anne, Marcy, and I responded. "The rules, one of us comes up with a scary dare and we all have to do it." Marcy explains. "But, whoever bails first gets their name added to, The Book of Losers!" Anne continued as Sprig and Polly gasped. "Yeah, and once your name is in The Book of Losers, it'll be there, FOREVER!" I added. "Well I'm sold!" Polly exclaimed. "Let's do this!" Sprig cheered. "Okay, now all we need is a scary dare." Marcy said. We all tried to think of a dare, but we had no luck. "Yeah, I got nada." Sprig said. "Huh, I don't remember it being this difficult." Anne shared. "That's because Sasha always came up with the best scare dares." Marcy explains. "Well, what do we got to work with here?" I wondered, looking around the bedroom for something scary, when I stumbled upon a map of the castle's interior. "Oh, what about the basement? Ow, paper cut." "Rowboat, that place is probably off limits for a reason, this may not be a smart idea." Marcy commented as I look back at the blood on my finger from the paper cut. "C'mon, Marce, it's what Sasha would do?" Anne begged. "Well, that is true, I hereby accept the Scare Dare Challenge!" Marcy shouted. "We also accept the Scare Dare Challenge!" Anne, Sprig, and Polly exclaimed. "It is done, this Scare Dare Challenge is now official!" I announced.
Lady Olivia was luckily asleep, so, we were able to sneak into the basement without anyone noticing. Anne opened up a trapdoor that lead to the basement. "So, who wants to go first?" Sprig asked. "I vote Rowena." Polly suggested. "That's fair, it was my idea." I said, walking downstairs with the others. Anne, Marcy, and I used the flashlight app on our phones to light up the path. Suddenly, Marcy tumbled down the stairs. When we followed her downstairs, Marcy screamed, which caused Anne and me to scream and caused Sprig and Polly to scream. "Okay, that's enough!" I shouted. "Whoa, that's a lot of mirrors." Sprig said. "So, anyone wanna turn back and go into The Book of Losers?" Anne asked. We all disagreed. "You know, some cultures believe mirrors can ward off malevolent spirits, or summon them." Marcy laughed maniacally.
After walking into this hall of mirrors for a while, we came across a blocked off door with some Newtopian writing. "Uh, Marcy, what does this say?" I asked. "My command of Newtopian linguistics is limited, but what it says should be fairly obvious." Marcy explains. "Keep out." We all read as we heard a creaking noise and screamed. "Okay, somebody's gotta wanna go back by now." Anne said. "I ain't going into no Book of Losers!" Sprig panicked. "Me neither." Polly added, shaking in fear. "Guess we'll go a bit further then." Marcy said. "Uh-huh, living my best life right now." I stuttered as we broke open the door to see a hidden crypt. "What the heck, it's some kind of creepy crypt." Anne explains. "Whoa, you mean, like, with the dead bodies, cool!" Polly exclaimed. "Guys, we shouldn't be here, this feels all sorts of wrong." Marcy panicked. "Guys, I think Marcy's right, we should head back upstairs." Anne added. "Oh, I see, so I guess you three are okay with going in, The Book of Losers!" Sprig exclaimed. "We don't wanna go back because we're scared." I scoffed. "This place just isn't our style." "Okay, prove it, take a selfie by that coffin." Sprig said, pointing to the creepiest coffin in the crypt. All three of us were disgusted. "Would Sasha do this?" Marcy asked. "Oh yeah." Anne and I replied as we headed towards the coffin and I pulled out my phone. "Alright, say desecration." I said. "Desecration." We mumbled as I took the selfie. "Nailed it, oh, wait, this photo's kinda janked." A creature came out of my phone and we screamed. More of those creatures came from beneath us. "What the heck are these things?" Anne asked. "Hey, they're actually kinda cute." Sprig commented. "Sprig, don't touch it, look!" Marcy warned, pointing at a frog corpse inside one of the creatures, dissolving. "They're gonna eat our bones!" Polly screamed. "Forget this, we're losers, we lose!" Sprig cried. "I don't get it, are they aliens, ghosts?" I asked. "Does it matter, let's get outta here, Scoob!" Marcy shouted. "Roger that." I said. "Wait, what did you just call me?" "Guys, this way!" Sprig exclaimed. "We found another exit!" Polly added.
We ran out of the crypt into another hall of mirrors. "Wow, someone really loves mirrors." Anne said. The creatures followed us until we lost them in a hidden garden. "What the, a garden?" Marcy asked. "But how are these plants growing so well without sunlight?" "MarMar, we don't have time for this, c'mon!" I shouted as we found another trapdoor. "Put your backs into it." Anne said as the door opened to reveal a familiar room. "My room?" Marcy wondered. "Don't question it!" Sprig exclaimed, shutting the door. "Whew, thank goodness that's over." I sighed in relief as the creatures came through the closed door. "Holy frog abuse!" "Take this you overgrown gummy worm!" Anne shouted, throwing one of Marcy's books at it, which wasn't destroyed. "Quick, more books!" Sprig exclaimed. We all threw some books at the creatures, but nothing would happen. "This isn't working, why are the books passing through them?" Marcy asked. "Maybe they prefer audiobooks, which is not like this one!" I replied, spraying some silly string at one of the creatures, which was reflected by a mirror Sprig was holding. Once the creature looked at the mirror, it developed a physical form. "It's physical, but how?" Marcy wondered. "The mirrors!" Anne and I exclaimed. "Both hallways to the crypt were filled with mirrors." Anne explains. "And it looks like the reflection of their own light turns these creatures physical." Marcy added. "Which means..." "Everyone, grab a mirror!" I shouted, passing out mirrors and giving physical forms to the creatures. Anne looked at herself in the mirror. "Hey, was anybody gonna tell me I have leaves in my hair?" Anne asked. "Not now, Anne!" We exclaimed, finishing off the creatures, locking them back in the basement where they belong. "So, anybody think they're going to sleep after that terrifying experience?" I asked. "No." They replied as Marcy's alarm went off. "Well, we did it." Sprig said. "We stayed awake all night." Polly yawned. "I still have so many questions." Marcy said. "What were those things, what's the deal with the basement, and if those were really ghosts, is there actually an afterlife?" "I didn't even think about that." Anne replied. "Same here." I added. "Well, one thing's for sure, that sleepover was amazing!" Sprig cheered. "It was the best!" Polly added as me, Anne, and Marcy did a fist bump. "I just wish I didn't have to add my name to The Book of Losers." Sprig sighed signing the book. "Me either." Polly said signing the book. "Hand me that pen, you're not the only losers, I was scared out of my mind." Anne explains. "Me too." Marcy added. "Same here." I chuckled. "It's not the first time either." "For real?" Polly asked. "Have a look." Marcy replied as Sprig and Polly flipped through the pages. "Whoa, your names are in here a bunch of times." Sprig said. "Yup, the only one brave enough to never get into the book was Sasha." Marcy explains. "We have to find her, guys, I need to make things right." Anne sighed. "We will, Anne, I just know it." I said. All of a sudden, there was a knock at the door. It was Lady Olivia. "Rise and shine, kids!" Lady Olivia exclaimed. She had facial hair drawn on her face and the phrase, 'Polly wuz here' on her eyelids. "Because of you, I barely slept to wink last night, whatever, it's go time, your audience with King Andrias is about to begin, GET READY!" After she left, we began to laugh, until one of the creatures appeared in front of us, scaring us all.
