The Dead Marshes
A few days later, Gollum had led Frodo and Sam to a smelly, dark, and foul marshland that had lots of deep puddles.
"It's a bog! He led us to a bog!" remarked Sam. "I hate this place. It's too quiet! There's been no sight nor sound of a bird for two days."
They had been walking past a large body of murky water. Sam had seen many dead faces appearing out of it. "There are dead things. Dead faces in the water!" He warned Frodo.
"All dead. All rotten." Gollum murmured eerily.
"Elves and Men and Orcses. A great battle long ago. The Dead Marshes. Yes, yes. That is their name. This way. Don't follow the lights."
Sam's foot had accidentally slipped into the water and he let out a short gasp. "Ohh!"
"Careful, now!" warned Gollum. "Or hobbits go down to join the dead ones and light little candles of their own."
Frodo was in a trance as he looked down into the water. He saw a rotting corpse of a girl floating in the water. The girl's eyes were rolled over white and most of her hair was missing. The girl looked familiar to Frodo. He suddenly realized that the girl in the water was actually....me! Frodo gasped loudly. His eyes grew wide with fear. He clasped his hand over his mouth in complete shock.
"Brianna...."he whispered.
All of a sudden, Frodo had fallen into the water.
There were bright green lights all around him. They looked like ghosts in the water. One was a ghost of me and it was reaching out towards Frodo.
"Come with me, Frodo."the ghost murmured. "I want you to stay with me.....Forever....and.....ever. I love you....I love you...don't let me go...."
As soon as Frodo tried to swim away, he was pulled ashore by Gollum. He trembled with horror and started to cry.
"Noooo! Oh, Nooo! Why her?! Why her?!"
Sam rushed over to Frodo and wrapped his arm over his shoulder. "Mr. Frodo? Are you alright?! What happened?!"
Frodo lifted up his index finger, which was shaking violently. "I saw her body in the water! She was dead!"
"Who's body, Mr. Frodo? Who are you talking about? Who is she?"
Frodo looked at him with a grim look on his face. His eyes turned a dark shade of blue. "Brianna." he murmured.
Sam raised his eyebrows in disbelief. "Her ghost was in the water." Frodo's voice grew shaky. "She wanted me to stay with her....she tried to pull me in. She wanted me to stay with her. Forever and ever. I..I didn't know what to do, Sam."
A fear grew in Sam's heart. As he looked over at Frodo, he grew very afraid. "I'm so sorry, Mr. Frodo. I'm so sorry." he stuttered.
"That sounds horrible! Terrifying! I honestly don't know what to say!" Sam pulled Frodo closer to him, keeping him warm. Frodo quietly sobbed into Sam's jacket.
"S-S-Sam."
"Shh, Shh, Shh, Mr. Frodo. I know. I know. It's over now, Mr. Frodo. Close your eyes It's all over. Let it out. Let it out."
After a few minutes, Frodo finally calmed down. "Forgive me, Sam. I let my emotions get in the way."
Sam patted him on the back and grinned. "Oh, it's no problem at all, Mr. Frodo. I understand. I really do. Hmm, I wonder where that Gollum wandered off to. We should probably look for him."
Sam noticed that Gollum was slowly crawling his way towards them.
"Don't follow the lights!" He hissed at Frodo.
