Entmoot
"The Ents have not troubled about the wars of men and wizards for a very long time.", mumbled Treebeard. "But now something is about to happen that has not happened for an age: Entmoot."
"What's that?" Merry, Pippin, and I asked.
"It is a gathering." answered Treebeard.
"A gathering of what?" asked Merry.
Ents of all shapes and sizes formed a wide circle around us. I was awestruck.
"Look! Ents!" I cheered, joyfully.
"Beech, Oak, Chestnut, Ash. Good, good, good many have come." said Treebeard. "Now we must decide if the Ents will go to war."
The Entmoot lasted for hours and hours. Night quickly grew upon us. The whole forest was covered in darkness. I was growing impatient. "
"How long is this Entmoot going to carry on? It's been too long!" I whined. "I'm getting bored already."
"Maybe they already decided something." suggested Pippin.
I shook my head in despair. "I highly doubt it." I grumbled.
"Decided? No, we've only just finished saying good morning." murmured Treebeard.
"But, it's evening already!" grumbled Merry.
"You can't take forever!"
"Don't be hasty." replied Treebeard, in a calm tone of voice.
"We're running out of time!"
"Treebeard, you have to hurry. Listen to Merry." I warned him.
Merry and I fixated our eyes on each other. "It's alright, Brianna. You are not a part of this. You don't have to be."
"Well, I want to."
"You don't know what your getting yourself into."
"Yes I do. I do know what I am getting myself into."
A few hours later, Treebeard had already discussed their plans for the war. I was in a deep sleep underneath a tall chestnut tree. All of a sudden, the tree rumbled and cracked. I woke up, startled.
I pressed a hand on the tree. "Sorry, Mr. Tree. I didn't mean to disturb you." I apologized, politely.
I got up and walked over towards Merry, Pippin and Treebeared. "What happened? Did the Ents decide anything? What are you going to do?"
"I have told your names...to the Entmoot....and we agreed that...."
"Agreed to what?"
"That you are not orcs." Treebeard continued.
I let out a loud groan and waved my arms in the air. "This is taking forever!"
"Well, that's good news." Pippin grinned.
"What about Saruman?" Merry asked Treebeard. "Have you come to a decision about him?"
"Now, don't be hasty, Master Meriadoc." said Treebeard.
I placed a hand on Merry's shoulder.
"Merry, please." I whispered softly to him.
"Hasty?! Our friends are out there. They need our help! They cannot fight this war on their own."
"Merry, I don't think this is a good idea." I stammered.
"I know what I'm doing, Brianna."Merry reassured. "Leave it to me."
"War, yes. It affects us all." Treebeard said, slowly. "But you must understand, young hobbit. It takes a long time to say anything in old Entish, and we never say anything unless it is worth taking a long time to say."
"What are you going to do, Treebeard?" I asked him. "You have to come up with something or else we will lose everyone that we love. I will lose everyone and everything that I love." I gazed over at Merry.
"Brianna..." he said, tenderly.
"Merry?" I gave Merry a meaningful look.
"You won't lose me." murmured Merry.
"How do you know that? That I won't lose you?"
Merry took a hold of my hand."You're just going to have to take my word for it."
