Chapter Two

Rex put down his binoculars when he heard General Skywalker's familiar voice. "What's the status, Rex?"

Rex turned and saw two female togruta's following him. One was a youngling while the other looked to be older. Rex took a moment to respond to the general as he studied the older of the two togruta's. She was a beautiful yellow color, with white markings on her face, and arms, while her montrals and headtails were white with brown markings fading into yellow markings. Her grey robes hugged her body, and two lightsabers hung from her belt. He shook his head, and returned his gaze to General Skywalker.

"Quiet for now, sir. They're gearing up for another assault", he answered before his gaze shifted to the youngling. "Who's the youngling?"

"I'm Master Skywalker's padawan", she said, putting emphasis on the padawan part. "The name's Ahsoka Tano."

Rex shifted his gaze over to Skywalker. "Sir, I thought you said you'd never have a padawan."

"There's been a mixup, the youngling isn't with me", the general grumbled.

"Stop calling me that!" Ahsoka yelled before a smirk settled onto her face. "You're stuck with me Skyguy."

Rex chuckled, and he heard a snort come from the yellow togruta who was admiring the view. "Good one Ahsoka. I don't think anyone's ever called Anakin 'skyguy' before."

Ahsoka smiled over at her fellow togruta. "Thanks, Master Ki."

"What did you call me?" Skywalker nearly snarled. Out of the corner of his eye, Rex saw the older female tense up. "Don't get snippy with me, little one. You know, I don't think you're even old enough to be a padawan."

"Well, maybe I'm not", Ahsoka said. "But Master Yoda thinks I am."

"Well, you're not with Master Yoda now", Skywalker said sharply. "So, if you're ready, you better start proving it. Captain Rex will show you how a little respect can go a long way."

Rex fumbled for words for moment. "uh.... right." He gave a hesitant smile to Ahsoka before leading her away.

Ashara chuckled as Ahsoka followed Rex, almost like a stray puppy. Ashara walked over to Anakin, and nudged him.

"She's got spunk", she said with a grin. Anakin rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, and an attitude that's going to be the death of me", he muttered.

"Ah, you'll get used to her. Besides, you weren't much different when we were padawans."

Anakin sighed softly, and looked over at Ashara. "That's what I'm afraid of, Ash. I don't want her to turn out like me."

Ashara gave him a gentle smile. "So teach her everything that you wished you knew then that you know now. She'll appreciate it. Just give her a chance to prove herself."

Anakin looked at Ashara for a long time, before he finally nodded. "I'll try, but if she gets mysteriously hurt, it's not my fault."

Ashara chuckled as she returned gaze to the horizon. "Anakin, what's that?" she asked pointing at a red blob that was slowly moving closer. Anakin grabbed a pair binoculars and sighed.

"It's a force field", he muttered. "Come on. We need to tell Obi-wan."

Ashara nodded, and followed him down to the holotable where Obi-wan already was with Rex and Ahsoka. Ashara stood between Obi-wan and Anakin as they discussed the force field.

"The shield generator is somewhere in this area", Obi-wan said. "They're slowly increasing the diameter, and keeping it just ahead of their troops."

"Heavy cannons are going to useless against that", Rex said, worry playing in his voice. Ashara couldn't blame him. These were his men, his brothers that were fighting, and if they couldn't use their best weapons, it was likely that they would die or be captured. Neither one was a good fate.

"As they get closer, I suppose we could try to draw them into the buildings", Obi-wan speculated. "That might level the playing field a bit."

"Someone's got to take out that shield generator", Ashara said, shaking her head as she looked at Obi-wan. "If we don't get rid of that, we don't stand a chance."

"Easier said than done", Rex muttered. Ashara gave him a gentle smile before she looked at Anakin. He sighed.

"I agree with Ashara. We need to take out that shield generator."

"Right then", Obi-wan said. "Maybe you and Ahsoka can tiptoe through enemy lines and solve this particular problem together."

"Can do, Master Kenobi", Ahsoka spoke enthusiastically. Ashara smiled, recognized some of the enthusiasm that she knew Anakin had when he was a padawan. Such enthusiasm caused him to be reckless.

"I'll decide what we do", Anakin reprimanded Ahsoka, earning a glare from the young togruta.

"If Rex, Ashara, and I can engage them here, you two might have a chance to get through their lines undetected, here."

"They won't have much time", Rex said. "The droids far outnumber us, so our ability to street fight is limited without the use of heavy cannons. They will march forward under the protection of their shield until they are right on top of our cannons, then they'll blow them away."

"Have a little faith, Cap. Besides, I got an idea", Ashara grinned. Ahsoka started leading Anakin away, ready to start their part of the mission while the older togruta started explaining her idea to Rex and Obi-wan.

"We can hide men in these buildings until they get under the shield and then they can start shooting them from above and from the sides. I can sneak behind them, and start taking them from behind, while you take them from the front, Obi-wan", Ashara said. Obi-wan hummed.

"I'm not sure it's a good idea to spread out our forces like that", he mumbled as he stroked his beard. "But I suppose we could try it."

Ashara nodded, and started walking away.

"General Ki!" Rex called. "Take a few of my men with you. You won't stand a chance by yourself."

Ashara cast a glance back at Rex, a small smirk on her face. "I think I can handle it, Captain, but thanks for the offer."

She took off running, dodging through the debris until she was really close to the front of the force field. She hid underneath some debris, and let the shield pass over her. She waited until she could barely hear the foot steps of the droids before she emerged from her hiding place, running forward until she could see the back of the droid army. She noticed that there were two tri-droids. She grinned, and grabbed both her lightsabers. With little effort, she jumped up onto the droid's leg, and igniting her lightsaber's, using the cyan colored blades to cut through one of the legs. The droid stumbled but maintained it's balance. Ashara leapt off the droid's leg, and sent it crashing into the other, knocking them both out as they exploded against the ground.

Ashara walked through the smoke and ash of the explosion, and charge at the droids, easily taking them out. She came across a tank, and jumped on top of it, opening the hatch to the cannon controls and sliced down a droid. She quickly took control of the tanks weaponry, and started firing on the other tanks. She managed to take down two other tanks before the droid driving the tank noticed that something was wrong,  and stopped the tank.

Ashara sighed, and she slashed the controls with a lightsaber, before leaping out and using the force to push over the tank. It crashed against the ground, and exploded upon impact. Ashara grinned, and turned, only to be greeted by a blaster to the face. Went to attack the droid holding said blaster, only to realize that she was completely surrounded by at least twenty battle droids. She sighed, and lowered her weapons.

"Take me to your leader", she said casually, knowing that Obi-wan would most likely be there and they would be able to get out of this mess together. Once Anakin and Ahsoka finally took down the force field, after all.

They grabbed her arms and took her lightsabers. The droids pulled her through the city before they approached Obi-wan and the general leading the attack. She sent a sheepish smile at Obi-wan who merely chuckled as he finished off his drink.

"I must commend you, general", he said. "You captured one of the finest Jedi alive. Ashara is tough one to capture. Anyway, about the troops. Do you have enough supplies?"

"Enough of this! You are stalling!" the opposing general yelled.

"Nonsense", Obi-wan stated. "General, there are numerous details to be discussed."

The general grunted, and tossed the makeshift table over. "Seize him!"

Two super droids grabbed Obi-wan's arms and lifted him up. "Unless you call off your troops right now, I will have no choice but to destroy you and your friend here!"

"Truthfully, I was hoping your shield would be knocked out by now", Obi-wan said nonchalantly. Just as he said that, Ashara noticed the shield starting to disappear. She smirked and met gazes with Obi-wan. He nodded, and the togruta yanked her arms out of the B1 battle droids arms, and used the force to pull them apart. She grabbed her lightsabers and stood behind the general, and created an x in front of his neck. She looked at the super droids still holding Obi-wan.

"Release him. Now", she snarled. At a nod from the leader, they dropped the Jedi Master, and stepped away. He grabbed his lightsaber from the droid, and turned to the general. Just then, he received a call from Admiral Yularen.

"General Kenobi, if you can hear me, we're through the blockade. The separatist armada is in retreat. Your reinforcements should be landing in a moment."

Overhead, several gunships flew by, and Ashara smirked. Obi-wan quickly bound the general's hands, and Ashara turned off her lightsabers. A gunship landed nearby, and Master Yoda got off it, walking toward them. She smiled at the aging Jedi.

"Your timing is perfect, Master Yoda", Obi-wan stated. Ashara smiled before she started walking to a more open area. The two Jedi followed her, where they waited for Rex to return with Anakin and Ahsoka. The togruta watched as soldiers marched around in perfect formation, cleaning up the last bits of battle. Faintly she could hear Obi-wan and Yoda discussing Ahsoka's assignment to Anakin. A gunship approached and landed, and Ashara saw Ahsoka and Anakin on it.

"Master Obi-wan, Master Yoda", Anakin greeted. "Ashara." The togruta nodded her greeting to Anakin before looking back at the short green Jedi Master.

"Trouble, you have, with your new padawan, I hear."

"I was explaining the situation to Master Yoda", Obi-wan said.

"Really?" Anakin asked, sending a glance to his former master.

"If not ready for a padawan, you are, then perhaps, Obi-wan, we can-"

Anakin cut Yoda off. "No, wait a minute. I admit Ahsoka is a little rough around the edges. But with a great deal of training, and patience, she might amount to something." Ashara smirked. 'Looks like he took my advice for once.'

"Then go with you, she will, to the Teth system", Yoda said.

"Teth?" Anakin said, a confused look crossing his face. "That's wild space. The droid army isn't even in that sector."

"Kidnapped, Jabba the Hutt's son has been." Ashara frowned, already worrying about the kid. She was glad that she wasn't the one going to find the huttlet, as she hated the Hutts, and for good reason. She knew Anakin hated the Hutts as well, and suspected that he wouldn't be pleased dealing with them. From the look of disgust on his face, she knew that she was right.

"You want me to rescue Jabba's son?"

"Anakin, we'll need the Hutts' allegiance to give us advantage over Count Dooku", Obi-wan explained.

"Negotiate the treaty with Jabba, Obi-wan will", Yoda said. "Find the renegades that hold Jabba's son, your mission will be, Skywalker."

"Come on, Master. It doesn't sound that hard", Ahsoka said. "I'll find Rex and get the troops organized."

"Don't worry,  Anakin", Obi-wan said calmly. "Just teach her everything I taught you, and she'll be fine."

"You know, something makes me think this was your idea from the start", Anakin said before he turned and joined Ahsoka on a gunship.

Ashara chuckled quietly as she listened to Obi-wan and Yoda. "Let's just hope Anakin is ready for this responsibility."

"Ready, he is, to teach an apprentice", Yoda said. "To let go of his pupil, a greater challenge that will be. Master this, Skywalker must."

They watched quietly as the gunship left the ground, taking Anakin and Ahsoka with it. Obi-wan turned to the two Jedi that were left. "If I've got to make a deal with Jabba the Hutt, I'd best be on my way."

"I'm coming with you", Ashara said to him. He nodded and they went over to a pair of conveniently placed fighter ships. She quickly took over a yellow one, with a similar yellow droid in the droid pit. She followed Obi-Wan into outer space to a hyper space ring, where she had her droid connect them. They quickly went through hyper space, coming out of it by Tattooine. She detached from her hyperspace ring and followed Obi-wan to outside the Hutt palace. She noticed that as her cockpit opened, the doors to Jabba's palace opened as well. She hopped out of her ship and pulled a cloak around her shoulders, mimicking Obi-wan. A protocol droid, a weequay and two niktos greeted them.

"We should not keep the wise and powerful Jabba waiting", the droid said.

"I wouldn't dream of it", Obi-wan said as he stepped toward them. They led the way into the palace. Ashara hesitated before she stepped into the darkness of Jabba's palace.

Happy Thanksgiving y'all! I'm posting two chapters this weekend, because it's a holiday. I hope you enjoyed this chapter. The next chapter will be up tomorrow 5:30 PM Mountain Time.
