Chapter Sixty-Three
Echo knew everything about this facility and so much more. He even found them a way out. Though, Ashara wasn't sure how she felt about precariously balancing on barely wide enough pipe for her to stand on. Ashara was behind Wrecker, and she felt bad for his fear of heights.
They were about halfway across the pipe when droids appeared out of the doorway they were heading too.
"Turn around!" Anakin called. "Go back." Ashara turned around, and sighed, pulling out one of her lightsabers.
"No can do, Anakin!" she called back. "We got droids on this side too!"
Thankfully, Tech had a plan, and turned on a recording of the reptiles distress call. Not long after, a few of the reptiles came flying toward them.
"Great", Anakin shouted. "Now how do we get on them?"
"How else? We jump."
"Alright", Anakin sighed. "I'll go first."
With that, he jumped onto the back of one of the reptiles. Ashara followed soon after, landing on another. She let the reptile fly where it wanted, as she had no idea how to steer it. Unfortunately the droids could fly and chased after them. Fortunately, they quickly lost them in the clouds. The reptiles landed in the Poletec village. The cheif Poletec spoke and Tech translated.
"The leader is impressed we tamed the Keeradaks, but he wants to know why we returned here."
"Tell him we had no choice. Tell him... that we wore out our welcome in Purkoll." Anakin didn't seem to know what to say so Ashara stepped in.
"Tell him that we're sorry we returned here, and that we wished we could have gone elsewhere, but we didn't actually tame the Keeradaks, we just hitched a ride, and they brought us here."
Tech translated, and the leader sighed, but nothing else was said as the droids from before found them and starting shooting at them. Ashara instantly pulled out her lightsabers and blocked some shots, sending them back toward the droids. She managed to hit one, and it came crashing down. Crosshair hit another, but one managed to get away.
"Not good", Anakin said. "If I know Tambor, he'll come at us and the Poletecs with everything he's got."
The chief spoke, and he sounded angry.
"What's he saying, Tech?" Anakin asked.
"He says that we have broken our word. We have brought the war to his village."
Rex shouldered past Anakin and Ashara. "You're right. Tell him he's right, Tech. Tell him we didn't plan to drag his people into war. But look what the Separatists did to one of our people."
He pointed to Echo, and Ashara heard surprised exclamations from the Poletecs. "They took away his freedom, his humanity. They tried to turn him into a machine."
Tech translated, and Rex continued. "The Techno Union claims it's neutral, but they have chosen sides. Now, your people have to choose."
"Couldn't have said it better, Rex", Anakin said, just as Crosshair came up to them.
"Uh, let's hope it works, because I see forces coming. More than we can handle alone."
Ashara was glad when the Poletecs agreed to help them. They quickly drew up a plan, and got into place, with the citizens hiding so they wouldn't get attacked by the droids. Not too long later, the droids landed in the village, and Ashara waited for her signal to start attacking.
A huge boulder rolled down into the village, and Ashara leapt out of her hiding place, igniting her cyan lightsabers, and attacking the droids. She danced around the blaster fire, and the ones she couldn't dodge, she blocked.
She grinned when she saw a large octuptarra droid. She ran toward it, taking out any droids she saw before. She came across Wrecker, and cast a glance at him.
"Wrecker, I need you!" she shouted. He nodded, and followed after her. They paused several feet away from the droid, and she looked at him.
"I need you to launch me as high as you can", she said. He nodded, and place his hand out for her to place a foot on. He pushed as high as he could, and she used the force to push herself even higher. She landed on top of the droid, and stabbed her lightsaber into the top of it. It didn't do much, so she slid down onto one of it's large blasters, and cut through it, making it useless before stabbing the eye. She then slid down to the leg, and cut through that, and leapt off it, using the force to send it flying backward into another octuptarra droid she didn't even know was there. Both crashed into the ground, and she found herself landing next to Anakin, who had apparently taken on the other droid.
"We apparently are still on the same wavelength", Ashara joked, and Anakin smiled. The dozen remained droids decided it wasn't worth it to stay, and immediately took off back to Purkoll. The Poletecs started cheering as they had won this battle.
The clones and the Jedi walked over to their shuttle, ready to leave with what they had gone there for. The Poletecs came with them to say farewell.
"Thank you for helping us in our fight", Anakin said to the chief. Tech translated. The chief spoke, and Tech once again translated.
"He says the Jedi will always have an ally here on Skako Minor."
The Poletecs turn and walk away, leaving the Jedi and clones to themselves. Ashara followed Anakin onto the ship, and quickly found a seat. It had been an exhausting several days. Hunter sat next to her.
"You know, if you ever want to get away from the strictness of the Republic, you could always come with us", he said softly. "It was nice having a Jedi by our side, and you do have a similar fighting style to us."
Ashara smiled, and looked at Hunter. "Maybe one day, Hunter. But my place is elsewhere right now. I need to stay with him."
She turned to look at Rex, and Hunter placed a hand on her shoulder, catching her attention.
"I understand", he said sadly. "Just know that if you ever need to get away for whatever reason, we will always be there."
Ashara nodded, and Hunter got up and walked away. Rex and Echo came over to her, and sat on either side of her.
"It's good to see you again, General", Echo says. "Been a while."
Ashara smiled. "It's good to see you again too, Echo. Hopefully you'll stay with us for a little while longer."
