Chapter Fifty-Two

Ashara woke with a start, panting heavily. She looked around, and found herself in a familiar medical wing. Last thing she remembered was facing off with Grievous. What happened that caused her to be stuck in here. She looked down at her body, trying to see if there were any hints. She saw a few marks that seemed to be mostly healed, but she had no idea what they were from. She looked around again, and this time noticed a familiar clone with his head in his hands.

"Rex?" she asked hoarsely. She was only just realizing how dry her mouth and throat was. She could use some water. Rex's head shot up, and he stared at the togruta in amazement. He didn't hesitate to leap up, and start fussing over her.

"Are you okay? Do you need me to call the nurse? Are you uncomfortable, do you need another blanket?"

Ashara pressed a finger to his lips, and chuckled quietly. "I'm okay. I don't... I don't remember what happened", she admitted. "But maybe that is for the better. You look like you haven't gotten any sleep."

Rex sighed softly. "I was worried about you. You looked absolutely horrible, and every little movement hurt you. You couldn't even stand, Ash, you were in so much pain."

Ashara's eyes hardened as she tried to remember what happened. She caught brief flashes, but not enough to tell her what happened.

"I really can't remember", she admitted. Rex sighed softly.

"That's okay. Just as long as you're okay now." Ashara nodded.

"I'm fine", she said. "Though I think the nurse droid would be able to tell better than I can. Maybe there's something going on that I can't see."

Rex nodded, and stood, his bones popping as he stretched. Ashara bit back an amused smile.

"How long were you in here?" she asked, failing to keep the amusement out of her smile. Rex shrugged, and she rolled her eyes. "Of course you don't know. Now go get the nurse droid, and then go find Anakin, Teriko, and Ahsoka and tell them I'm alright."

Rex froze. "Right... you don't know... Ahsoka is in prison."

"What?" Ashara exclaimed. "Why?!"

"The Jedi believe she is the one behind a bombing on the temple."

Ashara stared at him. "How long was I out?"

Rex hesitated to answer, and Ashara's stare turned to a glare. "Rex. How. Long. Was. I. Out?"

"Three weeks", he said softly. In Ashara's mind, she said screw it, and stood up. She wobbled for a bit, but once that went away, she breezed past Rex.

"I'm going to see her", she said sharply. "And if anyone stops me, they're going to wish they had never met me."

Rex was quiet as he watched as she walked out of her room, and into the main area. A nurse droid was outside, and it had a surprised look on it's face.

"Master Ki, you must rest", it said. Ashara ignored it, and stormed out of the medical wing. He started to understand why Anakin told him it would be best not to tell that to her upon waking up. Now he worried she was going to get in trouble just for trying to help her friend...

Ashara continued on her path, earning surprised looks from the Jedi she passed. Teriko happened to be one of them.

"Master! You're awake!" he exclaimed excitedly. "But shouldn't you be in the medical wing?"

Ashara ignored him, and continued on her path. She found a speeder, and took it to detention center where she knew Ahsoka would be. She stormed up to the entrance, only to be taken by surprise when an alarm begins to go off. Anakin and Rex show up not too far behind her.

"Come on", Anakin said, not even acknowledging that she was out of the medical bay, when she probably shouldn't be. They run through the hallways, coming across Commander Fox, giving an order to kill Ahsoka on sight.

"Belay that order, Commander Fox", Anakin ordered.

"She's killed troopers", the clone argued. Ashara shook her head, but Rex spoke before she did.

"I know Commander Tano. She would never do something like this."

"Then who did?" Fox asked. It was a valid question, but Ashara knew it could never be Ahsoka. She was too kind-hearted to do something like this.

Anakin ordered them to be quiet, and started talking loudly enough so Ahsoka could hear.

"Ahsoka!" he called. "It's me, Anakin. Stop running."

"You can't help me, Master", Ahsoka's voice echoed back. "Someone is setting me up."

"I believe you, Ahsoka", Anakin called, and Ashara knew he truly did. Just as she truly believed that Ahsoka was innocent.

"But no one else will", the younger togruta stated. Ashara knew she had started running again, and she didn't want to go after her. But she knew she would have to, even if it was just to bring her back so they could find out the truth.

"Keep searching until we find her", Anakin said, sounding slightly sad that his padawan didn't trust him to keep her safe. And to be fair, if Ashara were in Ahsoka's shoes, she would be doing the same thing. "Rex, call security. Tell them we need to search the entire base, now!"

He started walking away, and Ashara followed him. She rested a hand on his shoulder. "Anakin, we'll find her. I promise you, we will. And we'll prove her innocence, but right now, she needs space to find evidence on her own. So there will come a point when we need to let her go."

Anakin ignored her and just ran off, likely to search the entire base by himself if he has too. Ashara instead followed where the force was telling her to go, which led her outside. She spotted Ahsoka on top of a statue of a clone, and apparently Fox did too.

"There she is!" he called out. "Stop her before she gets to the ship."

Ashara darted forward, leaping up to where Ahsoka was, and following as close behind her as she could get. She watched as turret destroyed the ship the younger togruta was heading for, and blasted her back. Ahsoka was quick to get on her feet though, and continued running. Ashara followed close behind, but never caught up to her. She was giving her the chance to escape while seeming like she wasn't as fast the younger Jedi. She knew this is what Ahsoka needed, even if it wasn't what Anakin wanted. But he needed to learn to let go, and this would force him to. At least, she hoped it would.

Rain started falling from the sky, as if it was sad that one of the best Jedi in the order was being hunted down like a wild animal. Ashara hoped that Ahsoka would be able to get away safely with this large a group of clones chasing her. Ashara fell back a little bit, letting the clones get ahead of her. She started running again when Anakin, Rex, and Fox caught up to her.

They managed to box Ahsoka in, but Ashara knew that the Jedi wouldn't be caught so easily. And she was proven right when Ahsoka leapt over the clones and onto a pipe. She cut into it quickly, dropping down into the pipeline. They were quick to follow.

They chased her in the pipes for what seemed like hours, but it was only a few minutes. Ashara hoped and prayed desperately that the young padawan would get away, but she was afraid that with how Anakin was, he wouldn't let her escape and instead doom her to her death.

Anakin and Ashara came up on Ahsoka at the end of a pipeline leading to the hole in the surface of Coruscant that would take one down to lower levels. Ashara had no idea what Ahsoka was planning but she hoped it wouldn't be dangerous.

"Ahsoka, what are you doing?" Anakin asked sadly.

"You didn't even try to come and help me", Ahsoka claimed. Ashara glanced at Anakin, who's face was morphed with pain.

"They wouldn't let me in to talk to you!" Anakin argued. Ashara's kept glancing between the two, afraid of what might happen.

"You could have if you tried!" Ahsoka exclaimed, anger and pain lacing her voice. Ashara wanted to reach out to the padawan, give her a hug, but she was afraid that if she did, Ahsoka would do something rash.

"How would that look Ahsoka, huh?" Anakin said as he approached. "Forcing my way in would have made you look even more guilty."

Ahsoka scoffed. "I'm not guilty!" she yelled.

"Then we have to prove you're innocent", Anakin said calmly. "The only way we can do that is by going back."

"I don't know who to trust", Ahsoka said softly, looking away.

"Listen, I would never let anyone hurt you Ahsoka, never", Anakin said. "But you need to come back and make your case to the council."

Ahsoka's face hardened. "No. I'm not going to take the fall for something I didn't do!"

"I am ordering you to put down your lightsaber and come with me. Now!" Ashara winced. Now Anakin was getting angry with his padawan, and she knew that wasn't going to end well.

"You can trust me", Anakin said softly. Ashara couldn't see his face as he took a few more steps closer.

"I do trust you", Ahsoka said. "But you know as well as I do that no one else will believe me."

She looked away for a moment, and Ashara knew she had spotted her escape. The younger Jedi looked back, and locked gazes with Anakin.

"Anakin, you have to trust me now", Ahsoka said.

"Ahsoka, I do trust you", Anakin argued, getting closer. Ahsoka held up a hand to stop him.

"I know you do", she said, before her gaze shifted to Ashara. "Wish me luck." The older togruta could see the sadness and the hurt in Ahsoka's eyes, and she wondered if her eyes reflected what she was feeling as well. But she wasn't going to stop Ahsoka.

'Go' she mouthed, while also sending that word through a mind link. Ahsoka gave the togruta the tiniest of smiles, before leaping off the edge. Anakin and Ashara rushed forward, and saw Ahsoka free falling down to a large ship. Just as she landed, Rex and Fox came rushing up behind them, only seeing Ahsoka's face staring up at them sadly the entire time.
