Chapter 3
We had packed everything we needed for this dangerous mission. Our parents had made it clear we were not to do anything except say on them. They were not eager to let us go, but we had insisted on it. Our parents had us bring stun guns just in case. I told them over and over that we were going to be fine, but they insisted. I couldn't really blame them, though. Their twelve year old daughters were going to an unknown hideout full of people that would kill us with ease-or worse, pleasure.
We were standing in front of the brick wall in the alley that led to the Night Casters' hideout. "Ready, Grace?" Kylee asked.
"If we wait until we're ready, we'll be waiting the rest of our lives." I replied, quoting what my parents always said.
"Okay then." Kylee and I walked towards the wall, taking one more deep breath, and stepping through.
On the other side, it was exactly as I remembered. Dark, eerie halls and everything. I heard voices coming from a nearby room. I motioned for Kylee to follow me, all the while thinking, Dead, dead, dead, we are so dead.
We slowly crept along the wall. I listened carefully for any people that had decided it was a wonderful time to stroll down the dark and creepy corridors.
We paused outside a wooden door that was open just a fraction of the way. I heard voices coming from the inside. It was Vatra, the fire-user that kidnapped Kylee and I.
"I found out where the Elemental Stone is. But we have to get it now." His raspy voice declared.
"If we don't have it soon, we'll have lost our chance. We already know where to do it. Midnight Square in Brooklyn is perfect." I heard a girl's voice say. I peeked in and saw the earth-user from earlier.
Midnight Square? I live close to there. I thought.
"October 31st, this Friday, is the time when the night is closest to us. It's the only chance we have." I heard a deep voice say. I looked and I saw a guy with black hair that was barely visible in his hood. He was the only other person in this room, so I presumed he was the one who had spoken. He was doing something with the shadows in the room, so I assumed his power allowed him to control shadows. I felt something tapping me from behind. I whirled around and saw Kylee with a confused look on her face.
"Elemental Stone? What's that?" She asked, her voice barely a whisper.
"I don't know." I replied. "But when they captured us Vatra said something about it. I assume it's important. They said something about needing it by the 31st, this Friday. They said it was when the night was closest."
"Then we can't let them take it." Kylee declared.
"You're right. We'll have to go back now, before they notice us. I think we have done enough spying for today." I decided.
We slowly and quietly walked back through the exit.

When we got back to my house, we immediately told our parents everything we had overheard.
"October 31st? Elemental Stone? This is worse than we thought." Mom said worriedly.
"What does it mean?" I questioned. Kylee and I looked at each other, as our parents shared a frightened glance.
"It means," Dad said, "That the Night Casters intend to take over the world...this Friday."
