Chapter 8

Once they were back in camp, Ice introduced the new cat's to the Clan. Fang sent out the patrols and went off to his den to rest. Ice padded over to the prey pile and sniffed it. She picked out a mouse for herself and sat down to eat it. She poked her paw at a stiff mouse on the pile. Ice used her nose to move the prey around the pile and stopped to stare in disgust at an odd smelling squirrel. She wrinkled her nose and shoved it away. "This pile needs to be restocked with fresh prey." Ice hissed to herself. Cold weather was coming and something told her this winter wasn't going to be an easy one. Ice shook the lingering coldness from her fluffy white fur and headed out into the forest.

Ice was desperate to catch something. She padded forward slowly, sniffing the ground every few pawsteps she took. Suddenly, she spotted a gray squirrel up ahead, balancing on a fence. Ice crept forward quickly, staying out of sight of her prey. When she was close enough, she leapt up. She lashed out at the squirrel, just managing to sink her claws into its tail. The squirrel squealed and wriggled free before Ice could kill it. "Mouse dung!" She hissed before chasing after it. She growled in anger as the squirrel darted up into a tree. It turned and gave her a teasing look before vanishing in the highest branches. "Oh, I'll show that squirrel!" Ice yowled. She leapt up into the tree, sinking her claws into the bark. She looked around for the squirrel and spotted it staring at her fearfully. Ice pounced at it, this time managing to grab the prey in her jaws and deliver a killing bite. Ice glared down at her dead prey, then sprang down to the ground with the squirrel in her jaws. She headed off to a different area to find some more prey.

Ice had managed to catch a small mouse to take back to camp with her. At least she had something to show for her time out of the camp. She grabbed her squirrel and mouse and headed back to camp quickly. Once she got back, she dropped her prey on the small pile. Ice glanced around camp and noticed how many mouths they had to feed. Suddenly, the bushes outside of camp rustled. Ice slid out her claws as Bramblestar entered the camp. She hissed at him angrily as his warriors followed him into the BloodClan camp. "What do you want, Bramblestar? Another battle already?" She growled. His claws were out and his fur was spiked up. "We're here for Dewpaw. And revenge." He snarled back at her. Ice snorted. "He's never gonna come back to you mangy flea-pelts." She growled in reply. Ice glanced at the gray and white tom. He was glaring at the ThunderClan cats, his blue eyes flaring with shock and anger. Ice recognized the pale ginger she cat known as Amberpaw. That was Dew's sister and his brother, Snowpaw, was among them, too. Ice watched as Dew padded over to them, his claws unsheathed. Before he could reach them, a white she cat leapt at him. It was his older sister, Whitewing. She barreled into him, sending him flying across the clearing. When he landed, he raced back over to her, anger flashing in his blue gaze. He lashed out, slicing his claws through the air. They cut through Whitewing's nose, and she stepped back as blood spattered her white fur. She glared at Dew, her green eyes full of betrayal and hate. Dew hissed at her, his claws flexing. Ice bounded over to him and whispered into his ear. "Don't fight them yet. Wait until you're stronger." She said to him quietly. Then, she stepped back to let him make his choice. She dipped her head as he backed away, sheathing his claws. He cast a final glare at his siblings before padding over to the prey pile. Ice turned to glare at Bramblestar. His amber eyes were full of rage. "You haven't won. This isn't over, Ice. BloodClan will be defeated." The dark brown tabby snapped. The ThunderClan leader turned and disappeared through the tunnel entrance. His warriors followed him quickly and soon, the BloodClan camp was empty.
