Chapter 3

By the time they arrived at camp, they had caught 2 mice and a squirrel. The new warrior, Dew, had done good so far. Swift decided to keep a close eye on him in case he was a spy. He led the way into camp and his warriors looked cautiously at the gray and white tom. Dew met their gazes bravely. Swift leapt up onto the bone pile and called his Clan together. "Ginger, please step forward." Swift said. "Do you promise to stay loyal to BloodClan and kill when needed at anytime?" Swift asked the ginger she cat. Her bright green eyes stared into him as she nodded. "From now on, Ginger shall be called a warrior." Swift touched his nose to hers and dismissed her with a flick of his tail. He watched as she padded over to the prey pile. Dew immediately joined her, purring and rubbing his pelt against hers. Swift turned and padded into his den and laid down, curling his tail over his paws. He closed his eyes and after a while, finally drifted off.

Swift felt a paw shaking him. "Swift, wake up! Swift! ThunderClan is raiding us!" Swift leapt to his paws as he recognized his deputy's voice. Ice led him out into the clearing and Swift looked around. He spotted Bramblestar and dove after him. He knew that if he hurt their leader, the whole Clan would panic and run away. Swift hurled himself at the dark brown tabby and sank his teeth into his leg. Bramblestar hissed and shook his leg, but Swift kept his grip. Swift saw Ice attacking Squirrelflight close by. Swift winced as he felt Bramblestar's teeth close on his scruff. He pulled Swift away and tossed him like a piece of unwanted prey. Swift yowled as he landed in front of Dew, their new warrior. He glared at the tom and lashed out at him. "You're a traitor!" He hissed as his claws slashed through his chest. Dew glared back at him. His blue eyes were full of anger as he answered back. "My name is Dew. Not Dewpaw. So how am I a traitor, please explain." Swift bared his teeth. "You told your old Clan where our camp was." He replied through gritted teeth. Dew's eyes flashed with rage. "I did not!" He hissed. Suddenly, a cat plowed into Swift. He looked up into the eyes of Cloudtail. "Dewpaw! Run!" He yowled. Dew looked at Cloudtail, his eyes full of sorrow. "I'm sorry. My name's Dew now." He whispered as he sprang for the white tom. Cloudtail watched Dew in shock as he was knocked to the ground. Dew slashed at Cloudtail and sliced his claws down his side. Cloudtail did nothing to fight back, as he was too astonished. I watched proudly as Dew chased the white tom out of camp. Then, he turned back to Swift. "Now do you believe me?" He asked. Swift licked his whiskers and nodded. Dew dipped his head and darted off into the battle. Swift looked around for Bramblestar, who had been stopped from getting to Swift by Ice and Snake. He watched as his warriors attacked the huge tabby tom. Ice weaved around his big paws that lashed out at her. Snake dodged in and out, delivering bites to his enemy's shoulder and belly all while not getting hurt. Swift smirked proudly. His warriors knew how to fight. Suddenly, Swift felt a cat bite down on his tail. He whirled around to see the golden brown tom he had fought a few days ago. Swift bared his teeth at the cat and lunged for his throat. The tom dodged quickly, but Swift swerved with him and grabbed him by the shoulder. The tom gave a shriek of pain as Swift dragged him to the ground. Swift pinned him easily and sank his claws into his chest. "Why did you come here? How did you find our camp?" He snarled into the golden tom's face. The tom just growled. Then, he twisted his head and bit down on Swift's paw. Swift yowled in pain and leapt away from his attacker. He hissed at the tom and lashed his tail in frustration before darting away. Swift looked around for Bramblestar and realized that the battle was still raging, stronger than ever. It seemed as if more cats had appeared on ThunderClan's side. Swift crinkled his nose at the scent invading their home. The scent of ThunderClan was overwhelming, smelling of mouse and oak trees and wet moss. Swift snarled and sprang towards his enemy Clan's leader. "Bramblestar!" He screeched, his amber eyes flashing with rage. Bramblestar stopped fighting and glared at Swift, his amber gaze meeting Swift's. He stepped forward to tower over the BloodClan leader. Swift looked up and thought about his next move. He could feel the ThunderClan cats staring at him and Bramblestar. Without warning, Bramblestar lunged down onto his smaller enemy. Swift shrieked in surprise as Bramblestar sank his teeth deep into Swift's neck. Swift yowled in pain and thrashed his body around desperately, trying to get free. Bramblestar growled in anger and shook Swift's body around. Swift knew the tom was trying to kill him. He felt the strength ebbing from his body as blood dripped into his black and white fur. Then, Swift remembered a battle move that could save his life right now. He mustered all the strength he had left and began to thrash his paws around wildly. He made sure his claws were unsheathed as he aimed for his captor's neck. Swift stretched his forepaw out, and finally met his mark. He smirked as Bramblestar yowled and dropped Swift, who fell to the ground and stayed there, unable to move. He struggled to keep his eyes open, wanting to watch his enemy's pain. Swift looked at the mark he had made in Bramblestar's neck. It was a deep gash, stretching from his chest to his chin. Blood soaked the fur around the wound, turning it to dark red. Bramblestar was struggling to stand as his Clan panicked, darting into the forest towards their camp for their medicine cat. Swift growled in anger, thinking of their pitiful medicine cats. BloodClan had no healers, for their cats must be strong enough to endure the worst injuries. But Swift knew he wouldn't be able to overcome this injury. He blinked slowly as Ice padded over to him. Her eyes were somber as she licked Swift's ear. "You were a great leader. I'll make sure your kits know about you." She whispered. Swift found the energy to purr as his eyes slowly closed. A shiver passed through his body as the last bit of light vanished. He fell into a deep sleep, one that he would never wake up from.
