Chapter 4
A/N- I wrote most of the at 4 in the morning so sorry if it's not great.
(Peter's P.O.V)
As soon as the alarm goes off, just 2 hours after I got home and sorted, I groan.
The clock beeps letting me know it's 8AM. Normally on a Sunday I wouldn't be awake right now, and considering how hurt I got last night, I should be asleep.
But today is the internship. Part of me is excited to be able to work with Tony Stark, but another part of me is scared of what could happen. If they find out I'm spiderman.
I wince when my hand aches like something bad and hurts to move, even just a little.
Rolling that shoulder again I wince, looking down i see the burn mark from the iron man suit repulsors that burnt my skin.
Glancing in the mirror, I'm thankful to see my face all healed from the punches that I received from Captain America last night. My hand and arm is black and blue, no longer broken but bruised badly. My shoulder is red and raw, looking like it won't heal for a while.
Clenching my teeth I start to bend my hand, wanting to be able to use it while at the internship.
-
After multiple attempts I finally bend all my fingers without feeling horrible pain.
Looking down at my hand that doesn't look like a normal colour, I sigh, knowing i have to sort it out so I won't get questioned.
An idea comes to mind and I go to Aunt May's room. Seeing she is still on shift I walk to her makeup bag and pull out the concealer.
-
It's now nine and my hand is now covered with concealer and looks brand new. Luckily for me it is my left hand which isn't my dominant hand so it shouldn't be used too much.
I make sure all the small cuts and bruises are covered and a hoodie covers the rest of me, keeping my shoulder from being exposed.
I grab an apple, not really having an appetite and heading for the door, leaving a note to tell May where I am.
I smile to myself as I leave.
I'm about to go to the avengers tower and work with Tony Stark. Crazy.
-
I stare up in astonishment at the vast building in front of me, feeling slightly intimidated from the size of it.
The glass reflects the glare of the sun, shadowing down on the rest of the buildings. Clouds dancing around the top of the tower, birds flying by.
Keeping my left hand in my hoodie, almost like a sling for both my hand and my shoulder I go in.
Workers bustle around me, scientist in white lab coats rushing past, people In suits and fancy clothing walking past in a leisurely manner.
I walk up to the desk and smile to the woman who sits idly behind it, tapping away at a computer.
She looks up with a smile that soon drops when she sees me. She rolls her eyes and says "what do you want kid. You shouldn't be here."
I'm taken back by her tone of voice but brush it of replying "I'm sorry Ma'am. I'm the new intern for Mr Stark".
She scoffs before saying, "yeah right."
Before either of us can say anything else a voice echoes across the room.
"If the kid said he has an internship with me, shouldn't you check".
Turning around I see Mr Stark there, glaring dangerously at the receptionist.
"I-im sorry sir. L-let me do that n-now" she replies hurriedly.
Mr Stark holds his hand up and says "too late. You're fired."
The receptionists jaw drops before snapping shut and jaw clenched in anger. Without a word she stands up and storms away, a part of me happy she isn't there anymore as she gives me the creeps.
I turn to Mr Stark with a sheepish smile, feeling the nerves pick up and my hand and shoulder start to throb with pain.
"Thank you" I say, feeling grateful that he came and helped.
He sends me a smile before saying "come on kid, follow me."
As he turns around and starts walking briskly to the elevator, i quickly jog to catch up.
Just as the elevator comes down, and we are waiting to go in, some people walk out. Someone collides with my left shoulder, making me hiss in pain as my hand and shoulder burn with pain.
Mr Stark looks at me in slight worry and says "You okay Peter."
Clenching my jaw, and shutting my eyes I push away the pain and send a jerky nod, letting him know I'm okay.
He looks at me skeptically but doesn't say anything more.
Once we step into the elevator, Mr Stark turns to me.
Clearing his throat he says, "Listen kid. I was really impressed with what you did yesterday, and believe me, that's a hard thing to accomplish. So, I want to see what more you can do. So I'll show you around my lab, then I'll let you build something. That sound good?"
A smile erupts across my face, the pain that was once over bearing now dissipated into a dull throd.
"That would be amazing Mr Stark" I say, a hint of excitement falling into my sentence.
Mr Stark chuckles and says, "Call me Tony. Mr Stark makes me feel old."
-
His lab is so cool, it's full of tech and gadgets. Ironman suits are everywhere, new and old, and I have to try to stop me from fanboying.
I decide to build a miniaturized arc reactor, obviously not as powerful as Mr Starks, but it can still power a house for about ten years.
Mr Stark is working on a suit on the other table, with AC/DC playing quietly in the background.
My shoulder starts to ache and my hand is starting to hurt to bend, which I try not to show, not wanting Mr Stark to know about them, otherwise he might find out my other identity.
-
Three hours later and I'm done.
Mr Stark sees me pull away and says "you done kiddo?"
I smile and say "yeah, it's a miniaturized arc reactor. Obviously it won't be as good as yours."
Mr Stark seems taken back by what I said as he walks toward me and picks up the reactor.
A smile grows on his face as he says "wow Pete. This is really good. You've proved yourself, good job. You'll definitely be helping me on my suits."
I smile widely and thank him, trying hard to ignore the small part of my brain reminding me of the fact I'm spiderman and they're after me.
Mr Stark looks at his watch and then says, "you want some lunch."
As soon as he says that my tummy rumbles, and I feel my face turn a little red with embarrassment as Mr Stark says, "I'll take that as a yes."
He places the arc reactor down and gestures for me to follow. I can feel my nerves pick up, unsure of who I might see.
-
When the elevator doors open to reveal a huge living room, a sofa in the middle with a massive t.v in front I can't help but feel maybe I shouldn't be there.
Mr Stark sees my hesitation and slings his arm over my thankfully good shoulder and leads my through to a confined kitchen.
A women is sat on a bar stool in there and I recognise her as Pepper Potts.
When she sees us she smiles, but looks at me a little skeptically.
"Pep. This is Peter Parker, my new personal intern." Mr Stark explains to her.
Once Mr Stark said that, her face lit up as she stood and said, "nice to meet you Peter. I heard what happened this morning and I'm sorry about that. I have your badge here, it's level 10, which means you have full access, so don't lose it."
She hands me the badge then says, "I'm Pepper Potts."
She holds her hand out for me to shake and I do, saying "it's nice to meet you Miss Potts."
She laughs lightly and says, "call me Pepper hun."
Before I can say anything Mr Stark says "it won't work Pep. He calls me Mr Stark."
Pepper smiles at me and then looks at Mr Stark before saying "I like him Tones."
