Chapter 17. Cinema
I watched Sunstreaker from a little distance. Not that it made me feel any better, in fact, it made me feel even worse. He's capable of destroying lives, but am I able to do that same thing? Nate kept pushing me to dump his ass. Soldiers in Nate's team already gossiped behind my back about being Sunny's friend. I looked down at my lap and fiddled with my fingers.
A shadow fell upon me and drew my attention. Sunstreaker apparently noticed me and towered over me like the Eiffel Tower. His eyes stood much friendlier than before, luckily. 'Aren't you supposed to go home?' I sucked in a breath and got up. 'Probably.' I passed him. 'Are you okay?' His question caught me off guard. Not because he asked me, but because he was genuine. I heard it in his voice.
I turned around and shrugged. 'I don't know, honestly.' He leveled me with a wry smile. 'I can take you home if you'd like,' he mumbled. 'My home isn't here, Sunstreaker.' He shrugged. I didn't have a car and the idea of waiting in the rain depressed me. 'Sure.'
He gestured for me to follow him. 'You had a bad day?' I sighed. 'Busy, but not particularly bad. Just some stuff with Nate, that's all.' I waved it off. 'Was he mean?' I shook my head. 'No, no... it's some stuff he said earlier.' I waved it off. I didn't want to discuss this with Sunstreaker.
I noticed Sunstreaker drove the other way. 'Where are we going?' I frowned. 'If I drop you off at home, you'll probably start crying. At least, that's how you look.' He drove into town and parked his alt-mode. 'Come on.' A little bit confused, I hopped out and followed him. 'Where are we going?' He shrugged and took a few turns until the cinema popped up into view. 'There's a new thriller.' He gazed at me.
I was confused. Why would he do this? Especially after how mean I had been. He might be playing with my feelings or he's genuine. He didn't even have that much money. 'Why would you do this? After what I said?' Sunstreaker shrugged his broad, muscular shoulders. 'I don't know...' he sucked in a breath. 'You just seemed a little depressed and lost, that's all.' I looked back at the posters hanging on the doors; promoting the new movie. Maybe this isn't too bad.
'Alright, let's go.'
Sunstreaker opened the door for me and let me in before following at a slower pace. 'You want popcorn?' I didn't want him to waste his money on this, but there's no movie night without popcorn and he already seemed to go for it. 'You like salt?' He shrugged. 'I guess.' I didn't like the salt one and reached for the sweet one. He also grabbed a bottle of soda and handed me one too. 'Let me pay.' He shook his head and grasped my wrist as I reached for my purse. 'No.'
'Sunstreaker... you don't have much—' he cut me off. 'I don't care. I asked you, so I pay. I wouldn't have asked you if I didn't have enough money,' he warned and passed. I sucked in a breath. Cocky man. He's going to regret that later but on the other hand, it is sweet he's willing to spend money on me, even if I hadn't been that nice.
As we had our tickets, we made our way to the movie hall. It wasn't too busy, but still busy enough for us to maneuver between people to get to our seats. Sunstreaker sat down with a soft grunt. 'Why were you upset anyway?' He asked and popped some popcorn in his mouth. 'Ugh, Nate is being an ass, I guess.' I still didn't want to talk about it. 'As in...?' He pushed.
'He thinks something is going on between us... and that I'm defending you. He's spreading it to his friends; they start calling me 'traitor' and 'psycho lover'... it's going around the base like a wildfire.' I met his gaze. 'Do you blame them for thinking that?' I snorted and rolled my eyes. 'We are not lovers so yes, I do blame them. I literary threatened you to ruin your life, how is that defending you?' I muttered. He shrugged and opened his soda bottle.
'It's a shame you found out about my last female victim. I'm not always a monster. If you're on my hood side, there's no problem...' he trailed off. 'I just can't see how that would ever make a difference. You're short-tempered, you've anger issues... any argument could be a potential turning point. He sucked in a breath. 'Females and I don't get along for obvious reasons. Being a serial killer is not really attractive now, is it? A serial killer focused on murdering women... there's a lid for every pot, right?'
'So you want a girl and at the same time, you hate them? You're a complex man, Sunstreaker.' He shrugged and popped some popcorn in his mouth. 'Hold on...' I sat up and turned. 'This isn't a date, right? You're not trying to be my lid... right?'
'Right...'
I slumped back in the chair. 'Life would be so much easier if they give manuals during birth...' he snorted at that. 'Probably.'
'Do you want kids?' I snorted. 'Never. I hate children... I was a mistake... it's not like they hated me, but they sometimes used it in arguments. I would be a horrible mom and the idea just depressed me. No, absolutely not.'
I turned my head. 'You do?' He shook his head rapidly. 'Nope.'
'Why the sudden interest?'
'Just curious if you're a bitch that needs to be bred.' I shot him a glare. 'This is what I mean... you're just downright rude.' He simply shrugged. 'I'm not rude, just clear.' I huffed. 'I don't even like interfacing.' This caught my attention. Ratchet's stories popped up. 'Because of the abuse and rape?' He glanced at me. 'You don't have to mention it, thank you,' he grumbled. 'You're a young mech.'
'So? Doesn't mean I'm interfacing with everything and everyone,' he snapped quietly. 'Fine, because of my dad... the fun part has faded, it's not that I won't do it if she wants it... but it wouldn't be my favorite part either.' I slumped back. He hates women, he kills them and now he wants one? I was just glad the movie began so I could focus on something else.
After the movie, he dropped me off at my uncle's place. 'Thanks for the ride... and the effort to cheer me up.' He let his hands fall on his lap and nodded. 'Yeah, of course... what I told you earlier, that's personal. You don't have to share that with other people.' I shook my head. 'I didn't have the ambition to put it in the newspaper.' He snorted. 'Thank you.' I flashed him a smile and hopped out.
